Pro; The audio is clear/clean, when listening to music where a trumpet, upright bass, piano, vocalist were recorded, every sound, even background ( A cough, something dropped, crowd noise at a live concert) are pristine, it’s like you are actually there! Think god for 2006 technology! Weakness:
Con; It’s not really a weakness, but the video (upscaling 4K) is not possible. I’m watching ( with a Dish Hopper) using 2006 technology, a Fujitsu Plasmavision P55XTAS1, HHB CDR 882 CD Recorder, Teac A 2340 Reel to Reel, KEF Q7 Speakers, Pioneer Elite DVR 7000 DVD Recorder, etc....in my HMDI 4K room, I have the 2020 copy right protection units!!! Which one do I rate highest....I’ll let you figure that out. In closing, if you can find a GOOD working RX Z9, buy it..... Price Paid: 3+

Rx z9. I had the dsp A1. Rx V1. Rx z1 and now rx z9. Each top model had been improving the level but rx V1 and rx z1 are similar sound but the z9. Go to a superior level in sound, like hi end sound, the balanced circuitry, massive power output hug quality component until the foots are extremely carefully by yamaha I only can say the best AV receiver made by yamaha, I compare with my denon Avr 5803.onkyo tx nr 1000 and z9 is best in all. And excellent amolifier Weakness:
Best av amplifier. Quality hi end Price Paid: 400

Wow. I just picked this bad boy up for $230 from a guy locally. This thing weighs a ton! I got home and immediately disconnected my old Marantz SR7200 and connected the Yamaha. I'm only running a 2ch stereo system with no sub, but my speakers have 12" Watkins woofers and there is no need for a sub, especially so now that I have the proper power to drive said woofers. The sound difference is incredible. There is absolutely none of the laboring woofer sound that I previously experienced. Before it seemed to have issue hitting all the bass notes and it wasnt nearly as precise, but now it is basically perfect. The difference from 105wpc to 170wpc is massive! I'm sure it's not just the wattage that is causing the amazing sound difference either. For having paid $230 for this beast, I dont think a better deal exists! The build quality is like nothing I've ever seen on a modern reciever. I have read articles that this is arguably the best reciever ever made and that just might be true. I'll never sell it. It completes my stereo system perfectly. Weakness:
None that I can see. Maybe the fact that it weighs like 80lbs? However weight means massive transformer and capacitors. Price Paid: 230

I bought this z9 receiver less than a year and I love it so much sound a lot better than the paradigm studio 100 and most of the new Yamaha on the market five star all the way |

It’s pretty good. The best I have owned. Maybe the best thing out there before breaking the receiver functions into components.

Strength:
- Seemingly bottomless power.
Weakness:
- Runs hot, very hot. After speaking with some electrical engineers they seem to all agree that while heat is a bad thing for electronics, the quality of parts used in the Z9 are not bothered by heat. Place the Z9 somewhere with good ventilation.
I have been purchasing and listening to high end audio equipment for over 25 years. One thing that immediately stands out about the Yamaha RX-Z9 is the heat it generates. After about 3 hours run time, even at low listening levels the top gets so hot it would burn your hand. This is not necessarily a bad thing, even though electronics enthusiasts will all tell you that heat is the biggest enemy of all electronics. I have my unit on top of my stereo cabinet with nothing around, or on top of it. This is the price one must pay for heavily biased class A amplification.....for all the channels too.
Customer Service Never had to use Yamaha customer service center. Similar Products Used: Top end Pioneer, Sony, Denon HT units from the last 3 years

Strength:
Audio performance. The high quality construction of the Amplication and BurrBrown DAC chips on ALL channels!!!! It clearly states that no cost is spared to make this flagship performance.
Weakness:
runs hot, but this is the necessary evil with high quality analog Amplifications. Just got Z9 less than a month. Did some extended comparison with my RX-V1400 on 'Direct Stereo' mode to Dynaudio Contour Special 25 speakers. Just want to test out the audio performance since that's my No.1 concern. By using 'Direct Stereo' mode I can eliminate all the other 'non-relevant' factors. Z9's mid-range perfomance is way better (of course this is expected given the price difference). The female vocal sound much more grain-free and clearer. 1400 has an slight nosal hint and less solid center imaging. The sound stage of Z9 is deeper (behind the speakers) while 1400 more pop-up to the front. Different peopler have different perferrence here.
