I also bought this thing i 97, w my first paycheck from my first job. I now have it in my movie theater in my house, I ran the subwoofer output of my newer onkyo 7.1 into the L/R inputs of the aiwa. It has been driving two 10" passive subs like a champ since 2005. Before that, years and year of rocking. Love that im not the only one still rocking this lil tank of a receiver.

I bought the AIWA AV-X200 back in 1997 when I bought my first large projection TV, thought I was going to have good surround sound. Could never get the sound right no matter how I tweaked it, so I mainly used it to play thru the 2 main speakers and thought that was as good as it could get. For years I settled for less than what was adequate sound from the unit. Basically parked the center and two rear speakers on the stand under my now Sony 60" on the TV stand. Had always wanted to get a reel to reel player, finally broke down and bought an AKAI GX-77 from eBay that was in good working order. Recorded a couple of Kenny G CDs onto the 7" reels and it sounded amazing on the 2 main speakers from the AIWA unit. For grins, I decided, what would it sound like if I connected the center speaker and the two rear speakers up.. Set the unit to Dolby Pro Logic, set the center speaker to -10DB and the rear speakers to +2DB. The sound that jumped out at me was nothing short of true high fidelity, IT WAS ABSOLUTELY AMAZING. All the speakers are on one wall, the 2 main speakers are about 20 feet apart, with the center speaker dead center on 10 feet. The two rear speakers are approximately 2.5 feet on either side of the center speaker. All sound comes at me from the wall. Perhaps this unit was not the best surround sound system but how I have it set up now, when the AKAI GX-77 reel to reel is playing, the sound is incredible. Hope this helps someone that may have bought this unit and was never really satisfied with it, perhaps a different set up rather than using it for surround sound, you might want to consider perhaps doing what I did. I am totally impressed with this unit I've had for 19 years now, it has never sounded better.

I've had this for 25 years.
Lived in a apartment so had to keep it simple. This thing has hung in there and jammed through the years.

This is not the best receiver on the market but I have owned it since 1997 and at the time it was comparable to Sony and Pioneer at the time. Infact, I thought for the price it blew the them out of the water! I paid $250. I agree with a previous post the surround sound isn't the greatest but for listening to music it is great! I have 4 250w 12's hooked up to it and I have used it at levels up to half of the max and it still produces great sound. It has an overheating safety switch to protect it, Plenty of hook-ups and easy to use interface. This was my first receiver and I still use it to listen to music. I can't see myself getting rid of it anytime soon.

I have had this stereo since it was new in 1997, it has served me well. No it does not have all the features newer receivers with HD have. It does put out great sound and has plenty of auxillary ports for connecting other components to. Jacks in front are nice to have. Has lighted display that switches from red to green letting you know wether your on cd, dvd ect. As mentioned in other reviews there are better receivers but for the money and sound quality you can't go wrong. I have had this receiver for 12-13 years and still works flawlessly!

I really needed to get a reciver for under $200.00 that had the most features and a good handling power for my sub/sat system(100W per channel). So I came upon the AIWA AV-X200.
It's a great receiver for the money. I really like the equalizer settings and the DSP setiings, that livened up the sound a lot. The Dolby Pro Logic function was an added bonus. I am not using the feature but might later upgrade my system.

The only downside for the reciever was its shape. It doesn't have the usual dimensions of a regular reciever thus placing it along with my differnt brand cd changer was a bit of a hasle.

Other than that its a great reciever for the money!

AIWA AVX-200 is the centerpeice of my home theater. The power output is very, very strong compared to other receivers in the price range (technics and JVC) the AIWA put out sound 100% better than both of those other brands. I am running some Polk Audio RT10's off of it and the only buttons I have clicked are LIVE and ROCK. the DSP adds such spaciousness that isn't possible with the conventional reveiver. and ROCK add's the deep, full bass and detailed trebel of reveivers 5 times the price. Overall, this receiver is awesome, the only downside of the receiver is the T-Bass. It's tunning is way different than the T-Bass on their bookshelf models, the T-Bass on the AVX-200 enhances the frequencies around 150Hz-300Hz, no low end at all, which sucks. Besides that, the receiver is awesome!

The system is good, but there are a few things that keep it from being the best. Number one would have to be the weak power to the surround sound speakers. You have to put them almost up to your ears to hear them. Also another thing I don't like about it is no graphic equalizer. Just 3 levels for bass and 3 more for treble. Other than that I like it alot.

I have had this receiver for about 18 monthes now, and I must say that it has never failed to please me. I know that I need a new one now to really take advantage of my new JBL SVA 2100's (BY THE WAY THESE ARE INCREDIBLE) and to hear the AC3 of the DVD player I plan to get soon (at least I hope so, we'll see... I've gotten myself into an expensive hobby here!) I feel that this receiver is one of the best for the money and have found NO real flaws! Some people hate the look of the front panel, saying it's too colorful, I say it's about damn time that someone made a receiver that looks fun and easy to use yet has powerful sound!!!! I'm sick of the neutral black components that are supposed to say "I'm expensive" by being minimalist. I give it a 4 for quality and a 5 for price!!
