Got this one because of few reviews i have read and the listening tests. One of my main reasons for the purchase was the use of burr-brown converters in a very affordable box. Most other manufacturers use those converters in higher end models. Listening to music and movies on the 5.1 setup was good. Converters sounded very good, the high end definition was better and overall freq response was good. It has good balance of features and the build quality is ok. It has got a cheap looking on screen interface and the overall look of the unit is ok but for me it is all about the sound. My older model was a Yamaha which was more expensive and had automatic mic calibration system which helps in the setup. I do like the sound of the Onkyo better but the difference was very small. Listening to music in stereo mode was a nice surprise, the stereo image was very good. It made me feel like the vocals are coming directly from the middle. The unit 60 watt RMS per channel which is enough for me as i have very good self made speakers with some high end drivers and ribbon tweeters. All the speakers are very efficient, maybe that is the reason i felt that the unit was loud enough. I got the receiver for a very good price and shop around you will be surprised. |
