Strength:

I bought my SL DL5 in 1980. It stills plays records flawlessly. If I had to pick any one item that gave me the most value for the dollar, it's the SL DL5. Granted, I only play records once or twice a month, but still, we are talking almost 40 years of reliable service. I recently ordered a new stylus. I can't recall if I've ever changed that either so it will probably make a big difference.

Weakness:

None that I can think of.

I own own the SL-Q5, last one of the compact linear series made by technicsI believe. These are real sleepers...IOW are vastly underated and overlooked. Installed a new Audio Tecchnica AT311EP from full compass for under $40. TT itself was NOS, never played when I got it in 2003, of course I paid too much off ebay...I thought I was getting NOS conventional DD table for $90. After 7 years it has a niche. Connected to a Kenwood KR-4070 and Klipsch KSB 2.1/Optimus Mach 2 system. Not my main system but I find it hard to resist playinng. Especially the ease of putting an LP on. My background...Musician as a hobby and sometime profession since 1966...mainly orchestral and bigband. I am listening to Oregon's "Out of the Woods" right now - nice.
