I have had this unit for about 1 year, and it still amazes me how good it sounds. The sound from this CD player is detailed, warm, and full. I've had quite a few CD players over the years, Cambridge Audio 740, Consonance, Cary 308T, Rotel, Marantz SA-8260, and this one beats them all.

Warm, detailed and robust sounding player. Lots of weight and authority but only with the right front end and speakers (I'm using Classe gear and Aerial 7B with exceptional results). More relaxed and has richer texture than either my Marantz 8001 (an excellent player) or my friend's Emotiva ERC-1 (IMHO less excellent but still exceptional player). Also notably better pace and drive than either of them. Hard to describe - but notes seem to start and stop with more incisiveness and blacker spaces than either of the 24bit players. Maybe 32 bit AKM4399 DAC resolves better (it is rumored to be one of 2 or 3 best DACs in the world). Needs at least 100 hr. break-in. The A100 sounded tightfisted out of the box especially with original AC cord (I almost returned it to the dealer); much improved after burn-in and switching to different OEM cord. Better tonal color and less grey sounding than either the Marantz or Emotiva. Doesn't congeal the sound - each instrument has its own sound and space. Not seeing any reviews I was initially skeptical about this player. After living with it for several months I'm glad I got it. This is a real gem! |
