All major speaker manufacturers keep coming up with new products, while Bose stays with the main range of its products simply because it still sells like hell! Having said that, people are not silly to fall for mere marketing especially when they have access to product reviews and technical information like never before... think about it!

I think if the bad reviewers listed their receiver equipment it would be no surprise to find that they are using 100 dollar kenwood receivers from the early nineties that they bought on craigslist for 30$..

Strength:
sound quality, used space, design
Weakness:
the missing wall support What the persons having left the poor comments do not understand, is that the system acoustimass 6 is very good, on the condition of buying the receiver which well makes use of it, and for the ignoramuses who are taking themselves for big experts, bose is the best company as regards sound quality, so stop saying it sucks. Strength:
ITS SMALL, remove the cheap speakers from the cube and it could make a good cup holder, then you can use the speaker for a door stop
Weakness:
NO midrange, at least from the cubes, it does however come from the "subwoofer" If you watch a movie and only have the sub hooked up you can hear the dialogue its amazing!!
Bose is a music and home thearter failure all around. I had this system when I didn't know any better, What was I thinking that something could sound good from a system created out of paper and plastic, a so called subwoofer made of paper and low density fiber boad. |

Strength:
Size, resonable sound quality for £300 setup.
Weakness:
Not a £500 set of speakers, very sensitive to position. Need a powerful amp. Daft cables. These little Bose speakers were bought to go in my recently decorated living room. My long suffering wife, and my soon to walk child dictated that the £1700 worth of Monitor Audio speakers gracing my AV system needed to be moved to a safer location (the loft for now !!). So I needed something small and unobtrusive for every day use. Before buying the Bose speakers I read quite a lot of negative reviews, and some good ones ! More importantly I also additioned several similar systems - including the Energy Take 5, and the Misssion FS2av - an NTX system. Given that both of these have received excellent review from the trade press why did I buy the Bose units instead ? 3 simple reasons - firstly the Bose units to my eyes looked better, cost less (as factory refurbished units, usually they are £550 in the UK), and (after insisting that the store demo'ed the speakers without any post receiver processing ! ;) ) sounded in the same ball park sonically as the other systems I looked at - if not with quite as much "bite". So what did I think when I got them home ? Well they can't compare with the Monitor Audio & Rel system they are replacing, but for what they are they do a reasonable job. After some experimentation with position I have found they provide a open soundstage. But this does require VERY unconventional positioning of the speakers. Perhaps this accounts for the varied reviews form end users ? Also the mid range seems a little lacking as does the treble, but overall the speakers have a balanced sound. I have found, unlike some others here, that the bass is adequate. So overall I'm quite happy, however some crevats for potential purchasers. 1)Don't pay full price for them ( they ain't £550 speakers by a long way), 2)Do audition them before you buy them and make sure they are plugged straight in to the speaker outputs of the amp, I hear some Bose shops use thousands of pounds worth of pro grade gear to flatter the speakers. 3) Make sure you can take them back if your not happy - they probably won't suit everybody or every room. 4) Plug them into an Amp with plenty of punch. I tried them with a 5x40w Pionner AV receiver and they just sucked the life from it. Fine with my 5x100w Yamaha though. 5) Try plenty of different speaker positions before deciding they are pants ! Finally if you like 'em good, if not don't buy them, buy something you like. Good luck Similar Products Used: Mission FS2av Energy Take 5 Sony Pascal Monitor Audio Silver Theater + Rel Strata |

Strength:
clearity. highs. mids. Small.
Weakness:
price is a little steep but well worth it. Well what can I say? I have used the am6 for about a year. Within that year I have also tried Bics, klipsch, jbl, cadence and infinity. I own all the above and can honestly say I always come back to the bose. They have crystal clear highs that don't make your ears bleed, and good mids also. For a 2.5 inch driver, I challenge anyone of you bose bashers to find a speaker that can out perform these bose.I am not talking about speakers with 8 inch woofers and 1 inch tweeters, I am talking about a 2.5 in driver that will sound as good if not better than any speaker with seperate woofers and tweeters! I feel better now getting that off my chest to all bose bashers. Similar Products Used: see above, as I do own bose, and all the others named. |

Strength:
Size, Home Theater surround sound reproduction.
Weakness:
None if you understand what you are buying. I have a decent home theater set up (Marantz receiver, Energy speakers, Rotel DVD)and have been really active with this site as I pieced it together. As much as I love having quality components, I am mostly into Home Theater performance and can not differentiate the sonic differences as so described with the various speakers reviewed. I got the idea that Bose is not "audiophile" acceptable based on the opinions from this site and the folks at the HIFI shop where I bought my gear. When my Home Theater obsession carried over to my bedroom, I needed to accomplish something that by no means had to meet the criteria for the family room, however, it had to be decent. Size was a major consideration for this venture and I found myself gravitating to the Bose. When I came across an open box for under $300, it seemed to have the potential to meet my needs. The speakers are easy to work with placment-wise and they seem to pleasantly capture all of the DVD surround sounds and then some. I can't have a boomy subwoofer upstairs because it would keep people up at night, so the passive sub is just enough to warm up the sound. Music is not any concern but I would say that it is average and probably stacks up well with speakers of this size. I have had Boston Acoustics micro and Polk satellites and feel that in comparison to small speakers in general, they are better than average and provide a nice little Home Theater experience. I think that if you have your heart set on a main room Home Theater speaker set up and you think for $600 you are getting a serious performance speaker, then you are going to have the kind of gripes that are all over this site. I can see where the negativity is coming from but the bottom line is, aside from the nitty gritty specs and the so called misproportioned tonal characteristics, these babies serve a nice purpose if you are after Home Theater surround sound,a little music and your room has some limitations. If you can pick these up for less than $500, then there is no reason to look back and no reason to read to much into most of these reviews. Recommend with the right expectations. Strength:
Excellent Highs, Small, Strong thumping clean bass
Weakness:
No midrage or mid drivers .It also distorts at very high volumns but then again at a 110 watts RMS and close to 300 watts per channel reciever so will a speaker made out of gold. Let me put it this way, those who dislike bose do not know what their talking about or in this case hearing. IF you take a crap reciever and hook this system up to it you cant expect the best. For those of you who think bose speakers have cheap drivers its you and me both but when it comes to what you enjoy or what makes your ears happy its no hard decision that bose has hit the top. I have my bose hooked up to a Harman/Kardon AVR 8000 ($2,799.00 yeah baby)which pumps it with a massive amout of clean clear crisp power effortlessly. So once again those of you who hook this system up to cheap old sony's, Panasonic or yamahas then im pretty sure you aint seen the full potential of these speakers by Bose. For all these so called audio experts on this site you should read the November 2002 Consumer Reports. Since this is an objective review I am more likely to believe this than any of the B.S. I read here. And guess what? The speakers scored great for sound and accuracy!! |

Well, I went through all the reivews in this site about these speakers. People who are complaining about Bass :- Well , I don't know you guys followed the settings that bose recommended on these speakers. Receiver channel output Proper settings : Here is the tip : You need to setup the below settings in your receiver. Left and Right Front LARGE Center SMALL Left and Right Surround LARGE Subwoofer OFF LFE (low-frequency effects) ON If you can't set these settings in your receiver , then you are not going to get bass. if these options are not available on your receiver, then its time to get a new receiver or get subwoofer. For those who wants to buy these speakers , first make sure that your existing receiver or the one that you are planning to buy will support these options. If it supports then buy these speakers and setup the above options and listen to your music or watch your movies. BASS .............. : if you have the above settings are properly setup , it will rock your house. |
