Strength:

I have four pairs of definitive technology speakers. This model and three others. I’m a definitive technology bipolar addic.Get one pair you’ll see what I’m talking about. The BT 10’s Are the only ones that do not have the powered sub.Love them.I have a pair of BP 8060ST,Pair of BP2000 and a pair of BP 2002. And a pair of omnipolar OM7. I have four pairs of speakers hooked up(excluded the BP 2000)The BP 2000s standalone they rock. But I went online and found a way to hook four pairs of speakers up without using speaker selector the proper way. Thanks to Geoff the Grey Geek.Again just wanna say I’m a definitive technology bipolar addict now.

Weakness:

Get one pair you’ll see what I’m talking about. I have no weaknesses to say about the speakers.I have four pairs all different models love them all.

I have been using KEF, Klipsch, Bose, Mordaunt Short, JBL, Mission, Polk Audio etc in the past but I became an instant fan of Definitive Technology from the day I bought the BP10. It's fantastic! I have connected it to a Denon amplifier and I use a Klipsch SW12 subwoofer which matches perfectly to my 2.1 set-up in my living room. Great sound and excellent value for money!

these speakers have been with since the mid 90's and has survived 8 moves and from honolulu to Nor Cal to So Cal. they still perform fantastic for music and HT. They went from being my front towers with BP8 as my rears. then when i had a large room I was given a pair of NHT VT 2 and moved my BP 10s to the rear. I have since moved and now my home theater and music room is smaller so got rid of the huge NHT's put my BP 10's back in front and purchased B&W 686 for my rears and switched out an old DF center channel with a HTM62. I have a DF PF 1500 powered subI sat and listened to the B&W 684 at Magnolia and hard pressed to give up my BP 10.
I went from Denon AVR 3805 to a Pioneer Elite SC 61. I am not a hard core Audiophile but I do enjoy good equipment on a middle of the road of budget. the BP 10's will most likely be around for another couple of years

I have owned a pair of BP-10s since buying them new in 1993. They are good speakers for some types of listening. I gove them a very good rating for home theater/surround sound applications. They do sound big and impressive and when I was in college and liked to play music stupid loud to impress my friends the BP-10s did it well.

Times change though, and my BP-10s have been gathering dust for for about seven years now. See back seven years ago I was doing some amplifier shopping, I really wanted to buy a Krell. Instead while at the audio shop I heard this incredible sound eminate out of a listening room so, thinking that these were some large speakers, I decided to take a look. To my astonishment they were small monitors (8x15x11) made by a company called Dynaudio, the model was the Contour 1.3.SE. The price was as shocking as thier diminutive stature at a staggering $3899.00 in Bird's Eye Maple! I ended up taking home a pair of the "standard Contour 1.3MkIs (an older model) for $1700.00 (MSRP $2399.00) with a pair of stands.

My wife was a bit shocked at my expenditure but got over her shock and anger upon hearing them. They bested the BP-10s in every subjective category except for bombaste. The Dynaudios image spectacularly, have a smooth refined treble, reproduce voices with stunning realism, guitar notes are reproduced with spooky realism and they produce solid bass bass with awesome pitch definition that completely belies their size. It didn't take long to come to the conclusion that the Contours were something very special and I was a bit upset that I did not buy them years earlier. Yes, Dynaudios are pricey but you get what you pay for a speaker handcrafted in Denmark with ALL drivers made in house and impeccable build and sound quality.

I am not here to cutdowm the Definitive BP-10. I was happy with mine for many years but at a cost many better speakers can be had. Not just a litte better but light years better. If you are stuck with a really lousy room layout and or want speakers for movies or casual listening the BP-10s may be good. For serious music listening look elsewhere.

I have had a lot of speakers and these are pretty good! They have a large sound and really fill every corner of the room. Can turn a small room into a large theater. Love them!

Strength:

They have the best base, good clean sound ,the best i have ever had.

Weakness:

hummmmmmmmmmmmmmm i find no weaknesses

I have had numerious speakers in my lifetime and these are the best i have ever had i like base in my music and i have all seven speakers that are the same brand and people come over and watch movies and they say its better than the theater. When i purchased them they told me that i didn't have tohave a sub woofer but i got one any way and im glad i did . I also have a Pioneer VSX-84 TXSi and what a difference , I guess you get what you pay for, i have allways had Pioneer products and will never change that they rock, and usually change them out every other year but after paying 1500.00 for the reciver i think i will keep it for longer. Also have a power cleaner with them .

Strength:

They look delicate but fear not, they ARE robust. Great quality (parts, speakers and casing) and look discreet in the corners.

They're my first try in bipolar desings and I don't regret it a bit. I don't consider them as an money spent......but as an investment.

The bipolar strenght is giving big sound with little speakers. If it's either a movie or a live concert your listening, the sound coloring is exquisite.

Weakness:

They lack a little sound detailing (compared to a friend's Mirage speakers) but still, they sound near perfect.

I've had these speakers for the last 8 or 9 years........and I still LOVE them, and still use them in my home theatre. Very reliable, never had a problem. Sound is CRISP and clear. They look discreet compared to other more eye-catching products.....but the delivery of the sound is top-knotch.

They lasted through 3 adress changes (a fourth in a couple weeks), a couple girlfriends and now......2 kids and still, I love them every time a get a chance to listen to them.

Strength:

Excellent reproduction of high, mid, low frequency music, especially classical and jazz. Keywords: accurate, detailed, musical. Captures/conveys instrument and voice textures and timbres very vividly and sweetly. Small footprint takes up minimal floorspace for floor standing sprkrs. Solid value, bought new. WOW value, bought used. Easily fired by even lower power, provided you connect solid clean electronics at whatever levels.

Weakness:

Maybe not the best spkrs for big rock or lowfi thrash. but then again, on some movie soundtracks the thump has been gripping, all right.

Bought bp10s used from seller at audioreview.com. Since he lived in SF Bay Area, he delivered to my apt bldg doorstep. These spkrs are my first outing with bipolar design, and I have to say I am postively impressed. Before I have mostly used mini-monitor or bookshelf type speakers. These are sonically as good as my great big ESS Heil floor standing speakers. Small footprint makes them much easier to place in my small apt which is a large studio floorplan. Plus the extra little wooden side feet make speaker stability better. I listen to classical/jazz, plus the dvd movie soundtracks of various movies. Music sounds fine across the frequency spectrum, with vivid communication of tonal balances/instrument or vocal timbres. This suggest the midrange drivers are keeping up with the tweeter. I like the larger soundstage quite a bit, and even stereo movie replay is very involving. The sound fills the room space dramatically while maintaining clear enough imaging that you don't lose the left to right or back to front sense of dispersion. High efficiency means these spkrs get plenty loud even with modest (but good clean)power. I don't feel a subwoofer is actually required for music; and not even for movies. LFE will only get my neighbors pounding on my door, as it stands, and I don't even have to crank it up that much now to get a compelling sense of most recorded performances. If you can only afford a stereo system for movie soundtracks, these spkrs have to be a first round option to investigate, if only because of their excellent sound quality with a widely projected stereo image. Eventually, I moved the bp10s to be the back channels of my growing surround system. Truth is, a stereo pair was almost enough to make me forgo the multichannel idea.

Strength:

Balance, wide freq. resp., attractive, wide sound stage, easily found replacement drivers(Vifa)...

Weakness:

Could be too bright in a "live" room

First off, these are the old BP 10's not the BP 10b's. I have owned these for 10+ years, they have out-live a marriage, numerous girlfriends, and three address changes. I recently had the "audio bug" and set out to audition speakers in the 3 to 5k range. Long story short, I kept the BP10's and bought new cables. These are as balanced as any other speaker I auditioned, provide a full 20 to 20k range, and have great focus with the right cables. Imaging is better with other "high end" boxes but I am not a big fan of "finding the sweet spot". I am a part time musician and have recorded in the area's top studios over the years, so I do have a fairly refined ear. With enough power (100+ watts, HIGH CURRENT amp) good components and good cables these speakes wail and DO NOT need a sub. Not the best choice for fast, loud metal. If you can find these used, grab em!
