Strength:
Natural sound without any harsh or cold character, the trait often found with transistor amplification. The soundstage presentation is holographic and is delivered with total control, with little effort and without the thin nature often found with Hi-Fi equipment. The lower frequency performance is exceptional, an important part of music that is not reproduced very often. The lower frequency being there changes the overall presentation, making the listening experience a truly realistic and musical event. The frequency range is very flat, it is easy to follow each and every instrument. The Keltiks seem to thrive producing music, rather than sound. Everything produced by them is delivered with deft and authority.
Weakness:
They're a pain to setup, an inch out on speaker placement, or 1/2 db change when tuning the crossovers to the listening room, can cause the speakers to 'miss the mark' in terms of performance. It's worth the effort to make sure a Linn dealer setup these correctly. The first thing to mention is that it can not be overemphasised that the Keltik is a speaker that must be setup correctly, otherwise the performance would not be realised from them. Once correctly setup, with appropriate Linn components... which is another important factor as Linn kit is designed to work with each other to deliver a well balanced and natural sound. The areas mentioned above can be made easier, by using an experienced Linn retailer for the correct setup etc. Once everything is setup correctly and been running for a while, I've yet to hear another speaker regardless of price that outperforms them. Strength:
Superb bass, deep and rythmic. Good loudness capability.
Weakness:
Imaging not pin sharp. Midrange not high end, slightly cuppy A Very good speaker on rock music. Spoken voice highlights slight cuppyness in mid range. Treble much improved and more open with latest tweeters. Some slight spittyness, but source dependant. CD worse than vinyl so may not be speakers. Similar Products Used: None |
