Strength:

Decouples center speaker from tv, inexpensive, center image more open and less chesty

Weakness:

Speaker falls off of it if tilted down and Lovan doesn't care

I bought a Lovan Center Director a year or so ago for two reasons. First, a center speaker should not sit right on top of a tv. If it does, it will sound chesty. The Lovan director was a big improvement. Second, since I have a big RPTV, I needed something to help angle the speaker down toward the listening position. The Center Director did an adequate job, but didn't allow enough of an angle. So, I lived with it and did the best I could given the angle it allowed.

After a few month, the cheap-o foam pads that come on the unit apparently gave out. My center speaker crashed 61" to the floor. Both drivers were bent (Monitor Audio Studio Center with metal drivers) and the cabinet was damaged beyond repair (aesthetically, not functionally; it wouldn't be worth the expense to have it refinished, but it still works fine).

So, I sent the speaker to Lovan along with the Director for their viewing. They agreed to replace the drivers, but not fix the cabinet. I ordered the drivers and paid for them. They said they would reimburse me. Well, almost $500 later, they haven't reimbursed a penny. I've done everything possible to get my money, but they aren't going to help me. I've given up, and believe the only thing I can do is present my story to the public.

This is a good product, but Lovan's customer support is crap! Use it at your own risk. And, if you do use it, make sure you put something very tacky on the bottom to hold your center speaker to it. I found Audio Quest's sorbothane sheet to work very well.

I'm giving it four stars because it's a good product at a reasonable price, but I'd like to give Lovan ZERO stars for the way they've treated me. For what it's worth, I also own Lovan's Trisolator and about 6 of their racks.

Here's a follow-up to my previous review of the Lovan Director. It's a copy of an email that came from Lovan. I felt it is worth publishing, considering my only complaint in my prior review had to do with Lovan's customer service. This was a complete surprise, and I feel a noteworthy response. Here it is:

Dear Gary,

I really do not know how to start this letter, I guess the best way is to say how sorry we are for not being repaid for your speaker parts. I do know that over one year ago LOVAN had agreed to split the cost with our past distributor, Axcess Marketing. It was agreed that when the invoice came in for the replacement speaker parts, each party would pay for half the cost. We never received a phone call from Axcess Marketing . Mr. David Solomon,
of Monitor Audio, informed Axcess Marketing of the costs. The owner of Axcess Marketing then went back on his promise to pay for the speakers. We have never received any information about this situation until today when I spoke with David.

We are very sorry for the anguish you have suffered from our former distributor. As was intended originally, we were to pay for the half the cost of your replacement speaker, however now we will pay the entire amount and would also like to send you our newly designed Director which will be in stock in 6-8 weeks. Please send us the invoice so we can send you out a check.

My phone number (714) xxx-xxxx- LOVAN INC

With sincere apology,
