Strength:
Great digital sound. I prefer it over the AC-3 output, especially if you have a receiver that outputs DTS: Neo(Cinema), or Pro-Logic II(Movie). Picture is good considering DVD is upon us. You can really get a pleasing picture with a video processor of some sort to clean it up. Gold-plated outputs.
Weakness:
It's a little noisy. Then again, the quietest LD player I owned was the LD-S2. Once you turn it up, it's not even a factor. I love it! I'm still old school laserdisc. I own some discs that I'll always have, and I've been thru a few players. I like this one. I'm running it thru Monster cables, and an Entech S-Video Processor. The picture is solid for laserdisc standards. The audio is great. I stil think Laserdisc digital audio is, bar none, better than DVD digital sound. I was watching Microcosmos the other night with my daughter. The sound was downright excellent. It was much better than my DVD copy. The picture was about the same, with, maybe, a slight exception. There was some noticable noise on some of the scenes. However, the Entech cleaned some of it up, and it held it's own. If you're a collector, this is a good machine to have on the shelf. Similar Products Used: LD-S2, and other Pioneers and Sonys. |
