Strength:
Clean design. Blends well with the look of most components. Would work well for things like set top controllers, VCRs, DVD players, etc.
Weakness:
Little strength. Can't support the weight of higher end equipment. I was really excited when I saw this unit. Years ago I bought the Sony XBR100 Square TV set. At the time, I wasn't into audio, or home theater, and bought the Sony Shoji stand but not the matching audio rack. I've regretted that for years. About a month ago, I saw an ad for this audio stand that pretty closely matched my Shoji stand. Right after I opened that box I became worried about the strength of the shelves to support my receiver. The partical board shelves on this unit are only supported in the back. Because the clearance between shelves isn't high enough for my reciever to breath, I had to put it on the top shelf. You can actually see the shelf slightly bend from the weight of the unit. Nowhere in the documentation or website do they tell you how much weight these shelves can support. I called the company and left voice-mail for their engineering department but didn't hear back in over a week. Fortunately, their website listed their corporate e-mail addresses. The engineering guy never got back to me but I bet the president would. Sure enough, the next day after I sent my e-mail, the engineering VP writes back and says that the unit is meant for "standard" components weighing less than 30 lbs. Yeah right. |

The Altra Audio (Gallaxy) Racks are some of the most uniqe racks I have ever seen (See: http://www.geocities.com/~baristab/altrarack.jpg). They are very Ultra-Modern, black, floating style racks. They're costruction is of a very hard compressed wood. The finish is very nice, and the overall layout is very spacios. There is much room above components to allow adiquate breathing. Though they look unstable they are actually very stable. Check www.soundcity.com for pricing. |

Strength:
Open architecture, not ugly.
Weakness:
Routing for cables? Seems solid enough, and not bad looks for the price. Similar Products Used: - |

Strength:
Unusual looking, solid
Weakness:
Could be a couple of inches deeper, shelves-wise I saw the Altra TV rack on display at Circuit City, and asked if the company made a simliar audio rack. Was so thrilled with their "mod" 70's Italian-furniture look, I both them both. The design, while looking like it could pitch forward at any point, is actually pretty darned solid. The TV rack holds my 32" JVC, and a Polk CS-245 without a problem, and the audio rack is loaded down, with two components per shelf. Similar Products Used: none |

Strength:
Solid. Holds 4 audio components with wire routing you can't see. Very easy to put together, Granny can do this one. Resists scratches.
Weakness:
None Beautiful rack. It can hold it all your reciever, DVD player, vcr, and perhaps your cd player. The bottom shelf, mainly a stand, can hold some dvd or vhs movies nicely. You can easily find it at Circuit City for $149.00. Well worth its beauty to compliment your black tv and equipment. Similar Products Used: O'sullivan audioracks. |
