Strength:

Design is great. Big touchscreen. Nice backlight. Stylus included. Easy to use.

Weakness:

Unreliable. Freezes. Forgets learned keys. No technical support from RCA.

Spent 3 days programming this thing. It has already "frozen" once requiring me to remove batteries. I had to "ir learn" almost every button from my 5 other remotes. However, the RCU1000B keeps forgetting my TV commands. I've had to re-learn these 4 times. The help 1-800 number is useless.

Strength:

Won't keep it long enough to find out

Weakness:

Terrible feel, poorly designed, quirky, almost unusable.

I found this as an open box item at Best Buy and thought I would give it a try. It is easy to see why it was returned by the last purchaser and I am going to do the same. It is awkward to use and poorly designed. I own and use the RCA RCU810 which is manufactured by UEI, the company that makes the One For All remotes. Since the RCU1000B is supposedly a step up from the 810 which I like really well, I thought this might be worth a try. I don't know what company actually manufactures this remote. Don't be tempted to buy this regardless of how low the price gets. I can't imagine anyone would find this remote suitable. I usually like RCA products and own several but this one is total junk.

Strength:

You can beat someone to death with it.

Weakness:

It might accidenly fall on your dog/cat/small child and kill it by accident. Too many others to list.

This thing is a piece of junk. It couldn't find my Panasonic DVD/Stereo system for the life of it. The "touch screen" had broken pixels within 24 hours for no reason (many of them) and half the time the screen didn't even work.

A total disgrace. Complete piece of junk. I experienced same problems mentioned in previous reviews. Also had problems with this remote locking up - the display would freeze and not allow any keypresses. The only way to clear this was to force a power-off by removing the batteries, then replacing them, but then this caused the remote to dump everything I programmed into it. This happened several times. Hope I can return it. If not, will run over it.

Strength:

If you're looking for a wall stud finder this is the product for you.

Weakness:

Everything, Total, Entire Feature Package, is misleading and play on words, total dog sh-t.

RCA should be ashamed. Truly. Don't buy this product and if you already have then take it back before you have a hole in your living room wall that looks just like the RCU1000B. TRUST. Total Junk. RCA just lost any self respect they were still clinging onto.

Not a real fan of this remote - in fact I am returning it today. Definite problems seeing the keys, but not completely an issue. The biggest issue is that it will not learn the commands for my TV! I even managed to get it to work the combined tivo/sat receiver but it will not pick-up simple commands of a Samsung HDTV. I may be completely inept at programming it - but since I got the DVD, AMP, VCR to work - the TV shouldn't be a problem. Can't have a universal if it isn't universal.

Strength:

It only costs $80 & it has hard buttons on it.

Weakness:

Can run out of Memory & in some set ups it may not have enough Macro memory.

I bought this remote for my daughter to use, I figured for $80 why not give it a try? Unlike other reviewers I had no problem with this remote at all. I programmed all the codes for her gear into the remote before I sent it to her. I was lucky enough to have neighbors around that had the same type of gear as she had. I agree with the problem about the backlighting not always turning on when the room is dark, but it's really no big deal because all you have to do is put your hand over the front of the remote & the light will turn on. A few things that might be a problem with this remote is not enough "Marco Memory" & you can't lable the buttons for whatever you want. On most buttons you can chose from 3 different names that's it but these names may not be the same as buttons on your original remote. On my daughter's I was able to come pretty close to all the names for her remote buttons & the ones that were different din't take her long to figure out. This remote is no Philip's "PRONTO" but I would say for the casual user it gets the job done. One thing I will pass on is that at first I had problems learning codes from the original remote until I learned one code from the original remote & then deleted it. I did this on each item that I wanted to learn a code too. Also this remote doesn't have too much memory but I never ran out of it & that included the 9 Marco buttons that I used & it is set up to control the full 9 different items. For more info on this remote go to www.remotecontrolcentral.com If your interested in a cheap LCD remote I would say give it a try but make sure you can return it if you don't like it. My daughter has had the remote for around 4 months now & has not had to change the batteries. After I programed the remote I took the batteries out & about 5 min. later replaced the batteries & the remote did save all of the codes. To get an understanding of this remote go to www.rca.com & download the owner's manual. That way you will have an idea of what your getting into with this remote before you buy it. When I went into Circuit City they wanted $99 for it but after fighting with them over the price I got it for $79 so fight with them $ save yourself some money.

Strength:

None.

Weakness:

Everything. Its now a $119.00 paper weight.

I am so dissapointed with this remote control, I decided to write a review describing how much of a piece of junk the remote control is. I was curious of what other people had to say about this product, so I read what the previous reviewer "Smokengun" wrote! I had the very same exact experience. I reccommend not to buy this remote.

This thing sucks!! I got it brand new and was dumb enough to buy it even though no one has reviewed it yet. I figured touch screen, $100, get rid of my remotes, what could go wrong? First off, it could not control all of my devices. I still had to keep my Sony receiver remote on the table. Then after a couple weeks, the batteries went dead. Yes they were brand new batteries. After scratching my head as to why, I figured to shorten the amount of time the back light stays on, and the buttons themselves. Oh, and the back light has this little sensor on it so it doesn''t turn on when it''s light. Good idea right? Well, only if the damn buttons were legible in the daylight. I couldn''t see them. I had to put electrical tape over the sensor so I could see the buttons. I know that could''ve been my battery downfall, but it wasn''t I took the tape off, and changed the timer, and the new set of batteries still went dead in a couple weeks. When I went to change the batteries, the manual says it keep all programming in memory when you have to do this. BS!! I had to reprogram the whole darn thing all over again!! Unfortunately I waiting too long to be able to return it. I just bit the bullet and bought a new one HIGHLY RECOMMEND the Sony RM-VL900, for $60. Soooo much better. This thing was sssslllooooooww too. It was murder trying to page through my cable channel guide. Bottom line, DON''T BUY THIS THING!!
