I highly doubt that Bob Parsons (above), "supervisor at Best Buy's video dept.", paid $180.00 (M.S.R.P.) for this remote.
Mark-up in the electronics/video world is about as disheartening as someone stealing your house!

Strength:

easy set-up, backlight can be adjusted for duration and brightness, macros

Weakness:

can't figure out how to make large channel up and down button control digital satellite, macro function won't turn on digital satellite receiver, display almost impossible to see w/out backlight on

I wanted a remote to replace the 6 I own. This one does a good job. However, my Yamaha remote would turn my digital sat rec on using a macro and this Sony won't. Seems strange and annoying. Also, Sony assumes I'll be using the big convenient channel up and down buttons to change the channels on my TV. I don't know who would do this (I change channels on the sat rec, I'm sure others use the same or a cable box)and the documentation doesn't tell me how I can change it. But for the price-$149 at supremevideo.com- I'll just leave the dig sat rec on all the time to workaround the macro problem. If anyone knows (Scott-you listening)e-mail me please.

Weakness:

Will not work with my Sony TAE-9000ES

Is there some secret code used for programming this thing so it can be used with the TAE-9000ES? I've tried all the codes listed in the booklet and tried to program it from the remote which was supplied with the receiver and the only controls I have is volume and power. The thing works with everything else I have and the main reason for the purchase was to do away with the remote supplied with the receiver. It's hard to believe Sony would sell a remote that is not compatible with equipment they manufacturer

Strength:

Got rid of ten remotes which cleared up my coffee table. I am a College student just making a new system and i thought that this would be a nice final touch. My frien has the older model and that thing suck compared to the new dvd features they put on this one. And u can actually skip tracks with this remote instead of pressing the number u want, which is better then the laast one all in all good remote

Weakness:

reading the manual and programing it wasn't to clear

all in all a pimp controller esp. for a college kid. It works if u have time to learn it and only buy it if it cost at least less then a 1/4 of your cd player because u don't deserve this remote for low rent systems. Its a show piece on your coffee table for audiophiles.

Strength:

Simple to program. Good value. Overall meets my expectation.

Weakness:

I could think of many extra features but for it's price no complaints.

After months of research I can say it is the best remote 119 dollars can buy.
This is for my bedroom. I also use a Philips Pronto for my Home Theater very nice but couldn't justify it's price for the bedroom.

I own a Philips Pronto, many universal remotes.

Strength:

Easy to program, The ability to program macro functions,
the ability of programing buttons as you see fit.

Weakness:

No light behind the component select keys and volume/channel

Perhaps the best all in one remote I have ever used. It enables you to do so much with it. I went from six seperate remotes to only one, and it handles all the functions that my others did.
