Strength:
Strong learning capability, so this remote can actually replace remotes for 5 devices. Decent library of setup codes. Volume can be set to operate just one device, ie receiver, when in other device modes.
Weakness:
None at this price, but here they are: About 35 buttons are a little short. Handles only up to 5 devices. Not backlit. No macros. No LCD display. An inexpensive universal remote that actually works, as it has a powerful learning capability. The device codes were all present for my equipment (TV,VCR,DVD,CD,Receiver), but as is typical, functions needed to be learned in order to operate everything satisfactorily. With the learning function, everything I threw at this remote, it learned, and learned on the first attempt. From using other remotes, this 100% success rate was a first, and very nice. It is possible for the remote to learn, but not accurately, by not quite following directions, from not holding the source remote button long enough - a difference a second can make. Doing the process correctly solves that problem. When considering there are much more expensive remotes that fall short with their learning capabilities, this remote is definitely a bargain. Of course, it doesn't have everything, and can be thought of as a no-frills device. The most significant short coming is the number of buttons, about 35, is rather minimal, and a few more buttons would be nice. Even so, still have all the essential functions, and more. Some not so essential functions I have the remote do include - TV: the 6 picture-in-picture functions, Video mode; VCR: eject, slow motion; DVD: the 3 menus, zoom, frame skip, repeat. A couple more buttons would have been nicer with these 3 devices but did fit everything I would use. for the other 2 devices, CD Player and Receiver, there were buttons to spare. This is a universal remote that's truly functional, in that it can replace remotes for other devices, so that only this one remote needs to sit on the coffee table. Unfortunaly, this true functionality seems to be all to rare for universal remotes. Similar Products Used: One for All; RCA; Radio Shack |
