Casual Listener

Strength:

split surrounds in analog multi-channel modes available only to Jim Fosgate's creations, i.e. - Fosgate, Citation preamp/processors - 4 S-video/4 composite video - you won't need Dobly diggitalis nor DTESS - home theater installer's dream box

Weakness:

no respect for the unit created by Mr. Surround Sound hisownself - Jim Fosgate

citation has been "dumping" their products off and on for some time - too bad - not enuf people at the right time get ahold of their products at the company's right price - Citation is the POLISHED version of the Fosgate preamp/processors that led the way since the late '70s.

Way cool analog processor with several modes that go WAY beyond dolby pro logic's lame processing, giving the listener split surrounds (big defining trait of discrete formats) and an excitement in the personal home theater rarely available to those HT-ers who PREFER their surround sound *straight up*.
Looks aren't everything, but then here they are. Very cool dark cobalt byzantium. and fully automated for that hidollar HT with curtains and screens to go up and down.

A compleat and fully functional home theater/stereo preamp and processor. throw away the receiver, the good guys products, and start looking for the whole package - amps/subs/speakers - think of the 7.0 as a $2k analog stereo preamp with a killer surround processor and SMILE!

Strength:

Terrific 6 axis sound. Very flexible configuration. Logical setup.

Weakness:

Was not terribly impressed with stereo sound quality.

Really enjoy the incredible sound for home theatre use. It has very flexible setup and many outputs for up to seven speakers and two subwoofers (using in this configuration). Even my wife likes this one. I actually prefer the sound to the theater.

This sounds so good even my wife enjoys watching movies with this. At this point I am completly satisfied and see no need to upgrade to DTS or DD, it sounds that good.

Using with Citation 7.1 and 5.1 power amps and 7.4 sub.

Highly recommended as a relatively low cost entry into top notch sound quality if purchased used.

I was not too impressed with the sound quality for home stereo use but I was using different speakers than my normal home stereo setup so it was not an apples to apples comparison.

In my opinion this is a good one to pick up for the $500 - $700 they now go for used.
