Strength:

top quality DAC's, Build Quality, Warm Warm Sound

Weakness:

Manual Sucks,

I just bought this Preamp and I can't seem to stop listening to it. I hear notes and voices from my CD's that I never knew were there. Audio reproduction using this machine is truely amazing. A nice warm tube like sound to it. This is the first machine besides the Lexicon that I can actually listen to the other DSP modes other then the normal Pro-Logic and DD selections. The 5 channel stereo is quite enjoyable to listen with. What more can I say about this machine. Nice on screen display, first class audio and Home Theater reproduction, THX Certified and yes it can be upgraded to have DTS on it or with an outboard DTS decoder. No real need for it though DD is just fine for me. If you are in the process of looking for a Preamp in your system. Do check out the AVP8000. I gaurantee to you, you ears will love you for it.

Strength:

Well build and very good sound. Plenty of inputs.

Weakness:

The worst warranty service I have ever encounter in a brand name unit ever. Also the manual is difficult to comprehend especially if someone is a first time user in home theatre. Lacking inputs for future upgrades.

For the two years I have had this preamp, I never had any complaints about it. It is an excellent preamp. The sound was rich and clean. Plenty of inputs and outputs for components and even a RF input for laser disc. But unfortunately for me, I had problems with the digital side of the unit. Most of the time when I played movies with or without dolby digital, I would get drop out in the sound. After a while, making sure it was not anything else (ie laser disc player or DVD) I came to the conclusion it was the Denon unit. Since then I have brought it in for service, I have not seen my unit for about 7 months and counting. The unit consist of three digital boards (that is what I have been told) and I would need to replace them. But later I was told that one of the three boards was discontinued. So it was left to search for the parts elsewhere. They search the US and found nothing and then later I receive word that Denon of Japan was revamping the boards. I have been still waiting since that announcement. I am very disappointed with Denon for allowing such a long wait to change the boards or to even find the problem with the first installment of the Denon AVP 8000 with dolby digital. I have no unit to use for my music and movies. I have a 10 year old Luxman R115 receiver that has perform well above its duties minus the Dolby. I hope nobody who own any Denon product will go through what I have gone through. I still wait patiently for my unit to be fixed but until then I cannot recommend Denon products to anyone, even if the stereo magazines recommends any of the products. I hope nobody encounters this problem.
