bass management, like many, and remote, oh the sony 9000 for the money this is the best deal going.!!! it doesn't have 6.1, but considering the ever changing digital av market a great buy !!! ubid is blowing them out for $420-$450 including shipping. they also come with a 2 year factory waranty, which is uncommon for B stock !! The sound is clean and dynamic. The DSP mode for music mode 1 to 4 are great and similar to the Citation 6 axis. Though, it only have 2 S-Video output that I think is inadequate for this kind of unit and features. Unfortunately the audio stops when I am skipping tracks and when I am in DD mode. Sometimes the unit itself freeze when trying to display the error message (a feature in this model). I called up customer support of HK and told me that they have some known software bugs and the fix is the the new production which are still under the pressing room. Fortunately, the unit will be replaced as soon as the new production unit arrived. |

was in the market for a better preamp for the music system but bought this on impulse while crusing a crisis city store nearby (1999). All my hi-end dealers are too far away. Anyway I stuffed this nice-looking box into the video system: snell D bi-wired straight sextet + AQ type 6, proceed amp 2, still waiting for the new digital video format to settle in so JVC HRD 630u for movies and 1050 for CD's. Can't do a sound comparison yet, it's too hard to make changes to the video system because i have to keep it locked in an ugly wood "furnature" thing for the wife and small kids. Here's what I like: The remote is programable and versitile. it has a nice FM tuner built in so you can listen to car talk while you watch south park (not in this universe), the display is blue floursent and dim adjustable. It looks nice, the faceplate is solid like the high-end boys and has a nice row of fingertip detents for the mu access, volume, tuning. The manual is quite good. It's written in english by someone who speaks and understands the language. Everything is explained clearly, however there is no technical info about what's under the cover or what path each input/output goes thru. the amp trigger works on a Proceed amp (but won't turn it off)(by the way--same company, different faceplate). It has a menu sent to the TV with lots of adjustments (read the manual, twice). It has nice selection of digital and analog inputs that are all programable. I don't like the remote. the buttons used most often are not where your fingers are when you hold it, are all the same size and color (black) and imposible to read without glasses and strong light. like all video remotes the "0" is in the wrong place, it should be before and next to "1" but if you think the melenium change is dec 31 1999 this shouldn't bother you. the remote is lightweight (2 x aaa)easily falls out of your hand and gets eaten by your 8mo old kid, which changes all the settings. the menue buttons on the faceplate have a slow response time making you think they aren't working--something you never get used to. I can't really falt the sound since i only got it because it had a remote mute/volume and FM tuner and i was not up to driving for days and days to another state to be insulted by fools or mail order a pig-in-a-poke. (you don't by a pig in a poke because when you get it home it might be a dog...a poke is a thing you put a pig in when you want to take it to the fair and sell it--it has close slatts so the mark can't really see what's inside but can poke a stick at the thing inside to see if it squeeeeellls (don't go down that river), kind of like buying stuff from audio advisor catalogue so heck (I guess I wish I had done bought the Krell for a little more but then i still need a tuner and arn't you tired of all thoses wires and boxes?? Previous pre-amp was Adcom 565 bi-amping 535's and Onkyo P-304 with Adcom 545II. Yes the adcom 565 in bypass bi-amped (even with the little 535's) was the best set-up for music, but this is a system for c-span and the weather channel...i don't need hi-res. to watch idiots standing in front of the entire east coast while pointing at a part of kansas where nobody has tv. (sorry) Haven't found any reviews of it. Suits my needs. Besides, my front end is not hi-res yet anyway. I'll let you know when DVD decides what format it wants to be 16,44,96,24 take a hike! |

Bought the unit from www.onecall.com for $ 1550.00 . Great looking preamp. Blue Fluorescent display ; great remote. I wish the unit had a "Sleep" feature but it does not. For the same price, the Sony E9000ES seemed like a great deal, but I fell in love with HK !! . The unit just froze up when I 'turned-off' the front display by clicking on the Advanced Setup on the remote. The manual does mention about 'freeze ups' and says to unplug the unit and weight 3 minutes and plug it back on, but that didn't help. I had to do a 'System Reset'.from the Main Menu Of the remote. The software revision on this unit is 2.7 and I was under the impression that HK had fixed all the bugs. Anyway, I am kinda happy with the unit, but do not like the 'freeze-up' crap. HK is supposed to be releasing a DTS upgrade card for the 2.0 in February that will cost around $ 499.99 including installation. If anyone have any questions about the unit, feel free to e-mail me. |

I finally gave up trying to purchase a Signature 2.0 preamp. Its BUYER BEWARE when it comes to getting the latest software version that fixes most of the bugs. The latest software version as of July 7, 1999 is 2.8 this is in the Dolby Digital/DTS hardware version (when you turn on the main power switch the rev is displayed). A chassis serial number in the 36xxx range is supposed to have the 2.8 rev of software. But wait, it gets worse, the 2.10 software version is cominig out in Aug/Sept time frame the chassis serial number should be in the 39xxx range ( this rev supposedly fixes a fairly noticable bug ). HK says this is not a warranty issue and has no obligation to provide eprom upgrades to previously sold units. I have used HK equipment for years, but I now doubt the motives of HK when they continue to dump older rev units into the distribution channels. I returned a unit that was received by the dealer the last week of June, because it was a 2.7 rev unit. When I spoke with HK tech support, they had no means to even provide a new 2.8 eprom. There is no plan to offer eprom upgrades (I assume the customer will probrably end up paying for future software upgrades$$$). If you are the sort of person that expects the latest/greatest in quality when you buy a new expensive/upper-end product and expect notification/repair when there are software bug fixes, then watch out when it comes to buying the Signature 2.0 preamp (welcome to the digital world). One positive note, it does have a great sound. |

I HAVE A SIGNATURE 2.0. LIKE A LOT OF OTHER PEOPLE I HAVE EXPERIENCED SOME PROBLEMS WITH THE UNIT. AT FIRST THE AUDIO WOULD DROP OFF RANDOMLY WHILE IN DD MODE. I SENT IT BACK AT MY EXPENCE ONLY TO GET ANOTHER LEMON,THIS UNIT DID NOT DROP AUDIO WHILE PLAYING DD AUDIO,BUT POPED REAL LOUD WHEN SWITCHING SPEAKER SIZE (SMALL-LARGE)ON THE FRONT CHANNEL.THE ONE I FINALY GOT ON THE THIRD TRY SEEMS TO WORK FINE,IT DOES HAVE THE DTS DECODER ON BOARD. THE SOFTWARE VERISON IS STILL 2.7 THOUGH. I HAVE RUN IT THROUGH EVERY FORMAT (D PRO,DD,DTS) AND HAVE YET TO EXPERENCE ANY PROBLEMS. I AM VERY HAPPY WITH THE UNIT NOW,AS WITH MOST H/K PRODUCTS IT IS NOT CLUTTERED WITH A LOT OF USELESS FRILLS.I DO NOT HOWEVER LIKE THE REMOTE,I HAVE PLANS TO UP GRADE TO THE IRIQ REMOTE IN THE FUTURE. I WOULD LIKE TO NOTE H/K REPS WERE VERY NICE AND HELPFUL.ANOTHER TIDBIT A FRIEND OF MINE BOUGHT A JVC RECEIVER AND HAS EXPERIENCED A PROBLEM IN THE DTS DECODING,SO I GUESS NOT EVER ONE HAS EVERY THING WORKED OUT IN THE DIGITAL RELM. |

I upgraded from an H/K AVR 85 and this preamp does just about everything great. It has a great menu, display, sound, but the only drawback is that it does NOT come with DTS. I got it upgraded with DTS and the buttons are faster on the unit, and it sounds better. This has a smooth sound I am veary pleased with it. |
