Strength:

Remote control, easy to operate

Weakness:

flat sound in home theater

Last year I got this preamp and used it for 3 months and really like the remote control and the tones control but the sound seemed to be a little flat to me in home theater and at that time, I was curious about the Harman Kardon 2.0 because of its shape, etc. I decided to sell my Marantz and get the Signature 2.0. The Signature sounded much better than the Marantz in home theater even in the Dolby Prologic, it sounds just like Dolby Digital. and to my point of view, it is the best of the home theater preamp compare to Marantz, Adcom, and Denon. However, Harman Kardon stereo really poor sound, it is flat and warm. I then get rid of Harman and got the Adcom FTP 750. The theater mode almost the same as Harman but the stereo was better; however, there's no tones control. Then I tried the Denon AVP8000. This baby is the best in hometheater and stereo; however, it is DTS upgraded so kindda hard to decode DTS ... So, I decided to get the Marantz again and this time I got enough with it. I hooked it with 2 Adcom amps, GFA 5802 for 2 front channels and GFA 5503 for 2 rears and center. However, the sound still not get any better (this time I used it 3 months again :) I then sold it and get the Denon receiver AVR-4800 and it is sound better than the Marantz AV9000 with 2 amps.
The Adcom amps were really good when I brought it over my friend house and hooked up with tube preamp. It sound almost the same as tube amp. To me, if you wanna have seperate components. Gotta get a really good preamp, otherwise, get a good receiver is better than having a cheap preamp with 2 good amps.
