Strength:
I use this only for audio. The MX136 has a vast array of audio inputs ( 11 I believe plus an array of DAC inputs as well ). I believe the MX136 was the last McIntosh processor to have a pure stereo audio path with no digital processing. Sonically the stereo reproduction is very open with a very realistic soundstage. There is excellent detail reproduced with no strain or harshness. The MM phono section is excellent. Weakness:
Unit is very large. Switching is controlled by an array of processors and is a bit slow by remote or source selector on front panel. Purchased: Used

Strength:
The MX136 has a superb MM phono section. I was really surprised about the transparency of vinyl using the built in phono preamp. The sound stage is both wide and deep without any glare, very natural sound. The preamp section is very flexible and has a pure stereo mode. All inputs are very low noise and produce very natural, unconstrained sound. Input names can be altered and video circuits can be turned off by individual sources. The glass front panel is easy to read and the backlighting is very attractive and quite functional. Weakness:
The preamp was designed for managing surround sound and according has many inputs and outputs. McIntosh tends to make large components and the MX136 is really very large which makes it difficult to install in some conventional locations. A video screen is required to rename inputs and execute some advanced features normally set during installation. Purchased: Used
