Weakness:

Rotel 1095 is quite different very relable and life time lover

I heard many Rotel 1066, 1068 and 1069 all I can found is the sound is not quiet a litte noisy
the voices in center channel is quite lean and a little of sibillance
Rotel is quite shamful company to introduce the kind of " seperated procesosor " at 1700

Strength:

Functionality and ability to control so many set up parameters with precision.
Ease of set up
Great sound quality, even in two channel mode
Excellent DAC's on board
Value

Weakness:

no serious weaknesses

Volume control is awkward (too fast or two slow, depending on mode)
Gets quite hot
One service issue, but taken care of under warranty
Placement of plugs in back could be more spread out for ease with high quality cables

Tied wtih a Rotel 1095 Amp and B & W speakers, I found the Combo too harsh in upper mids and hights, even with great recordings, and even after extensive break in. I recommend listening to a variety of combinitaitons at volumes you listen to at home, before pulling out the credit card.

I've lived with this pre/pro now for a couple of years. Agree with the other reviewers - the unit is easy to set up and has a lot of adjustability regarding cut-offs for each speaker, speaker levels, delay, etc., so you can really tailler the set up to your specific room.

The unit takes a long time to burn in and sound musical, so don't be alarmed if it sounds hard or harsh out of the box- it takes weeks for the board to break in it seems. Once broken in, the sound is crisp, clean, quick, dynamic and 'real'.

I use a cheap universal and tie it into the 1068 via digital cable, allowing me to use the superior DAC's included in the unit. This works quite well, except that there is a slight delay sometimes when listening to CD's - you don't hear the first second or two of the first track.

The unit gets quite hot, so give it lots of room to breath. I had to send it back for a new digital board about 1 year ago, but Rotel took care of it promptly.

This is a great pre/pro for this price and does it all competently.

Strength:

Sound, sound, sound! Numerous video and audio connections. Simply fabulous OSD and home theater setup. Nothing in the market even approaches the audio and video performance of this component anywhere close to its price range. It truely competes sonically and in video performance with the best in the market regardless of price.

Weakness:

NONE. For the price, less than none.

"How much do I love you, let me count the ways"
Fantastic sound quality for audio and video. Sounds as good as its more expensive brother (RSP 1098) for slightly more than half the price. It offers no frills just plain old perfect sound regardless of the source. Video switching capability is excellent and doesnt degrade video signal one iota, IMO, it might even improve it! Surround performance is perfect, sound placement, sound delay and "reality" of the surround field are beyond reproach. The music surround modes are excellent, you have never really heard Natalie Cole till you have heard heard her on five channel stereo ! The OSD works in high-def through the component outputs. The controls are straightforward and simple. Only negative is the lack of HDMI connections but judging by how long DVI connections were in vogue (2 years?) it's probably a non issue. The remote is very good though dedicated remote jockeys may know of some better ones around.
Without regrets I can attest that in home theater applications no receiver from any manufacturer regardless of price, THX certified or not, can even pretend to rival separetes of this caliber in any audio or video application. There are receivers in the market tha are more expensive than the price I paid for the RSP 1068 PLUS an accompanying Rotel RMB 1095 (200W x5) amp (total $3600). As far as home theater and straight audio quality, comparing them to this combo is a non sequitor.

I had this A/V preamp for 6 month now and i love it . Easy to setup and a really good remote . You learn the product real fast . It has a really good crispie sound in theather mode . Good details and a fast attack . Basmanegment is supurb . The dts mode is the best I heard . And I listen much on old vinylrecords and its 2-channelhandling is great . You cant get any better sound with this money that Rotel 1068 has . I use it with Jamo d870 surroundsystem . Parasound Hca-2205a 5-channels amp. Pioneer dv-737k .

Strength:

Build quality Software upgradable All surround formats very configurable good stereo performance 5.1 bass redirect on/off in menu video upsampling to component lots of 12V triggers

Weakness:

Remote is so so ( I use a pronto anyway) No way to do bass redirect on analogue and no bass redirect on digital

I already had a 2 channel RB-981 and a 5 channel RB-985MKII. I was saving money for the rsp-1066 to replace my Denon AVR-3801. Although the Denon is okay in Surround, the Stereo performance is quite bad for a 1500 Euro receiver. Even when only used as a pre-amp in my case. The rsp-1068 is a very good processor. In Surround it is like you sit in the middle of the sound. So mutch more detail and depth than the Denon. the 5.1 input is very configurable and sounds very nice with my Denon 2900 SACD player. Also the 1068 now has a nice torodial transformer and is very silent. Only on very high volumes you get some hiss, but not too mutch for an AV pre-amp.

Strength:

Love the remote,Music play back sounds good,If you have good components soundstaging and depth are your rewards.

Weakness:

Remote uses batteries fast(about 4 months)If you have bad components, it'll show with bad soundstaging and depth.

I am slowly building my system, and finally replaced my Marantz reciever I was using as my pre-amp. The reviewer before me says there's a hiss in two channel, I have not heard it. He might have to have his doctor check that for him. The music playback seems great as long as you have a good player. Case in point, I have aa Pioneer universal player that's not the best for stereo, or sacd playback. My sacd's and cd's sound better through my Rotel cd player hooked to a Parrasound outboard dac. I'm looking forward to a new universal player. As far as sound staging it depends on your player. Bass is solid, never heard such deep solid bass through my Marantz. DVD-A is pretty stunning , even with a low end player.

Strength:

- Great value for the $$ - Excellent Dolby Digital performance and for SACD/DVD-A via the 7.1 multi-channel input - Dolby Pro-Logic IIx - If there's bass in there, you'll hear it and feel it - Excellent channel separation and soundstage - Clean, crisp sound - Just enough digital inputs (5) - Very flexible bass management - Lots of controls for tweakers

Weakness:

- Wish I could dim the blue standby light some - Only major lacking is a notch filter to cut back on bass booming room modes, but I tested my room before I purchased to make sure I didn't have this problem and I have control of where the subwoofer goes in this room. If you need room equalization, you'll need to look elsewhere and spend more $$ to boot. I own a B&K Reference 30 for my family room system due to a nasty bass problem centered at 62Hz. [No ability to move subwoofer due to spousal acceptance factor!]

The Rotel RSP-1068 completes the electronics portion of my "high value" system: RSP-1068 coupled with an Outlaw 755 (200W x 5 ch) amplifier, and Denon DVD-2200 universal player. Those items together with my Paradigm Monitor 7s, CC370, Monitor 3s, and PW-2200 make for one fine system. A little hard to call this champagne taste on a beer budget (more like French champagne taste on a California champagne budget), but a nice solid value system by picking a choosing optimal price/performance in all components. The RSP-1068 replaced my trusty old Denon 2700 receiver and the leap in performance was larger than I expected. The entire bass level of the system increased, so much so that I had to crank my subwoofer output down a bit. I love the flexibility of the bass management system. For Dolby Digital/DTS, I experimented with different crossovers and settled on 60 Hz for the fronts and surrounds and 80 Hz for the center. I tweaked the subwoofer output up a few notches for the 7.1 multi-channel input for SACD and DVD-Audio. The sound is clean, crisp, and pure. Channel separation is top notch and center channel clarity is greatly improved over my Denon receiver. The bass output is equally clean and gets more bass out of my Outlaw 755 and Paradigm Monitor 7s than I thought was possible when listening to SACDs, DVD-Audios, and concert DVDs. The Led Zeppelin (sp?) DVD is a flash-back to when I saw them live in 1975. You get all the bass energy of the live show, especially Bonzo's kick drum. The Paradigm Monitor 7s can be a bit forward for some (I just think they are very accurate at the high end) and the RSP-1068 provides both high and low frequency contour controls to roll-off (or boost) the top or bottom end. I haven't had to touch these controls which tells me my system matches up well across the board. SACDs and DVD-As sound exceptional through the multi-channel input. Everything that is on the disc comes through. For these formats, I run the Monitor 7s as full range speakers with the subwoofer adding weight to the bottom octaves and I was surprised how much bass was there in older recordings. Menus system is pretty straightforward and navigation is fairly intuitive. Naming the inputs for display on the front panel is nice, but it's the one place that the interface behaves a bit differently than expected. This unit has many features (too many to detail) and is software upgradeable. I shopped around for a pre/pro in the sub-$2000 range and I doubt you can find a better performer for the money. The Rotel RSP-1098 probably sounds a bit better, but you pay almost twice as much money for it and the fancy front display screen is something that offered no real value to me.
