Strength:
Clean sound for HT. DD and DTS decoding Memory function very handy.
Weakness:
Remote (go buy a "one for all" or radio shack 15-1994) No binding posts for surrounds. No DPL2 Build quality is questionable. This is a good basic receiver for the money. At 70 wpc it is in the low range for what you need for good HT. I had mine for a year and just traded it in for a denon 3802. I would have kept it a bit longer but I was having a problem with the left rear channel when in VCR mode and 5 channel stereo. The speaker was cutting out. The store where I bought it suggested that it was a processor problem. I was about to send it in for warrantee, but decided to trade instead for the 3802. I am very glad I did now. DPL2, 7 channels X 110 watts, high current, DTS EX, etc, huge upgrade. Go for it if you can afford the $$. This unit (1801)is built in Korea, whereas the 3802 is built in Japan. It makes a difference. My System (now): Denon 3802 Pioneer DVC-525 Paradigm Monitor 7v.2 Paradigm CC-370 Paradigm Atoms (rears) Paradigm PS-1200 sub Hitachi Ultravision 50" 50UX57B |

Strength:
Sound quality, features
Weakness:
1) Remote 2) Too many of these on ubid (wonder if these 1801''s are prone to more than average to electrical problems) This receiver is great. My feedback is similar to others who are positive on it, great sound quality, good features etc. Except: the dreaded ubid curse - My first and last dealing with that chop shop. Maybe someone could suggest a cure for my problem with the unit. Problem: In Dolby Digital 5.1 mode there is an audible hum/buzz through all the speakers. It''s a high freq buzz as it eminates from the tweeters. BUT no buzz in DTS mode, DTS sounds perfect. Could this be a blown Dolby Digital DSP? Anyone have any ideas? I''ve tried using both optical and coax digital inputs and the same problem occurs. please email me at: rob_wright@otpp.com if any suggestions. |

Fantastic receiver. Sorry to those people here leaving bad reviews (one and two stars) but you should have known better. Ubid sells many refurbished items and it isn't worth saving the $75 dollars to get a refurbished item. You get what you pay for so when you save money and buy a "refurbished" item, that's what you get. Why do you think the warranty period on a refurbished item is typically much shorter than on a factory new item? Think before you buy. |

Strength:
Well built, warm tonal quality
Weakness:
none I'm really happy with my decision to purchase the Denon. My previous receiver (Denon AVR-95A) was a stereo unit which served me well for 12 years. I considered buying a Sony or a Yamaha, but after reading the opinions of others and auditioning both, I decided to buy another Denon. As others have stated, the Sony has quite a bit of hiss, and I'm not sure about their higher wattage claims. The Yamaha was nice, probably on par with the Denon, but the sound is a bit brighter in my opinion. Similar Products Used: Denon AVR-95A |

Strength:
Great sound
Weakness:
pre-outs This is to offset the last review. It sounds like a review for Ubid and not this product. Besides, you are taking a chance when buying a b-stock unit. I still love my receiver. It has been used every day for the last 6 months and its still going strong. Similar Products Used: Yamaha, Pioneer |

Strength:
sound quality, well layed out controls, 5-channel stereo, dts, dolby digital and price.
Weakness:
remote This is really my first AV Receiver. I had a home theatre in a box setup that I'm phasing away from. I did much listening at local audio retailers and read reviews on this site. Setup was easy, took me under 30 minutes. I was leaning towards Yamaha but glad I went with the Denon. Almost purchased the 1601 but held out for this unit, needed a little extra power since my system is in a finished basement and quite large. I'm very happy with my Home Theatre setup. |

Sound quality, expansion
Weakness:
remote This is a very nice unit. I made the decision to go with this unit versus the 2800 because of price. I listened to both units at the dealer for differences while watching DVDs. I could hardly hear one, and have been told that if this unit is primarily for home theater and not music, that this is the one to go with. Similar Products Used: Sony DE335 |

Strength:
Near high-end stuff and all crystal clear and strong sound!
Weakness:
Remote control, but who carez... Now i have 4 of them... I play alot of music using a Rotel RCD955AX-player and experience Home Theatre with (for now) 2 KEF Q15 speakers and a 5 year old HIFI stereo Akai videorecorder. I just saw the movie "The Perfect Storm" and it sounded great with these thunders and stormy waves! And I'm only using 2 speakers! (Stereo Mode). Soon I will get me a DVD player and more KEF speakers and a subwoofer for the full HT experience! The music from the CD-coaxial digital input sound wonderful too! Strength:
Preamp ins and outs, not too many bells and whistles, great sound, good power, affordable, upgradeability, looks good, buidl quality
Weakness:
The remote has really small buttons, is a little awkward, and doesn't have a backlight. Also no onscreen display (Have to go to the AVR-2801). This is a great receiver for the price, even if you have to pay retail. I work for a company that sells Denon, though, so I got it at half retail. I've had it hooked up to a set of Mirage FRXs, Klipsch sub, and a Denon CD player. This unit is really user-friendly, and the front panel is laid out straight forwardly, without an extraneous number of knobs and junk. Adjusting tone, channel volume, and surround parameters is easy, thanks to one knob and four buttons on the left side. headphone output is pleasant, and a lot better than its predecessor (an older Denon stereo receiver). Set-up is pretty easy if you peruse the manual, and the receiver has plenty of input/output jacks. I was thrilled that this piece had pre-outs and ins. I use the L/R front preouts to feed an old Adcom GFA1A (200 wpc), which runs my front L/R speakers. Inputs assure future upgradeability with multichannel surround sound formats. I just hope Denon integrates Dolby Pro Logic II into their units soon. Sound is a huge step above all that cheap junk you buy at Best Buy and the like, imaging is great, although the sound is a little bright. Maybe I'm just sensitive, though. All in all, a great receiver, and still my first choice in the price range. Similar Products Used: Sansui 661, Denon DRA-375, Yamaha RXV-596 |
