Strength:
No hissing, no humming, sufficient power to drive Overture 2's to the next home 100 yards through the forest. DTS great! Jazz, 5 channel stereo, rock/arena good dsp modes. Very clear, precise sounding unit!
Weakness:
Denon website lists 'concert hall' as a dsp mode; one of the reasons I selected the 2800. 'Concert hall' is not there; not a part of the 2800. Sloppy summary by Denon. Bass control not much (true of many newer units, all manufacturers). The 2800 gets a five; Denon gets one and half less offering a feature that doesn't exist. Similar Products Used: Onkyo TX-DS939 |

It was worth the wait! I was planning on ordering an AVR-2700, when the helpful guy at Sound City suggested I hold off and grab up the new AVR-2800, which would be an upgrade which would include DTS and a few more watts and things. I got it yesterday, and it is sweet! I think it is hilarious, but I have one before my local Denon dealer does, and I paid $599 delivered, compared to the $695 he would not go below on the 2700, even faced with losing the business. Too bad for him. Sound City is great, and they are an authorized Denon dealer (Even Denon says so on their website). |

Strength:
amplifier quality, 5ch stereo
Weakness:
none I bought a harmon kardon and an hour after I got it home I knew I had made a mistake. It had a loud hum so I took it back. Replaced it at the store and the second had the same thing just not as bad so I got my money back. I them bought this Denon 2800. The main reason is the 5ch stereo feature that I cant figure out why every manufacturer doesnt have. I can turn this up to full blast without anything playing and there is no sound whatsoever. This is the cleanest amplifier I have ever seen in a a/v receiver for under $1000. They dont have a ton of DSP modes like some other brands but I consider this a positive feature. This receiver has every feature I want and not a bunch that I dont want. I really believe there is no other receiver for under $1000 that can compete with the performance you get here (except for the AVR-3300.) Similar Products Used: harman kardon |

Sounds Breathtaking
Weakness:
none I am not by any means an audio expert. What I am sure of is the sound from this reciever is the best that I have ever heard. By far, better than the kenwood vr-309 I was using. Everything is so clear and pleasing to my ears. I have no other way to describe it. Just go out and buy it and listen to it. Similar Products Used: Kenwood vr-309 |

ummm...too damn many to list!
Weakness:
bass output without a sub. This is just personal preference...could be enough for some! Part of the problem is my speakers as well (cerwin vega AT-8's)...ten years old but they can still crank it out, remote is fine...not the best organized remote, but it is easy enough to use! Well...where do I start??? This is an amazing piece of equipment. I have been searching and searching for months for a HT reciever, and finally i have found "the one". Got this one at U-Bid for $427 plus shipping. It may be refurbished...but i assure you...you would never know it. The warranty is only 90 days...which kinda sucks but hey...on a piece of equipment like this do you honestly think you will ever need it??? I had that old kenwood for ten years and never had a problem with it, and that was KENWOOD...Denon is heads and tails above kenwood so I am not worried! The clarity of sound coming out of my speakers...the old crappy vega's is absolutely amazing. It is quite surprising what a high quality reciever can do for an aging set of speakers. I only have two front speakers on my setup right now so it is hard for me to really test this reciever yet! However my parents have the 3300 with a complete setup and it is nothing short of astonishing! The lack of bass that i mentioned above will be cured when i can get myself a sub...my parents have a sub and it seriously shakes the earth...but when you pay eight hundred for a sub it sure as hell better shake the earth! If anyone has any suggestions as to how i can up the bass output until i get the sub then please email me and let me know! I would also like to know what people think about which DSP mode is best for DVD's and CD's? I cannot really decide...I usually listen to everything in stereo since i have only two speakers for the time being but maybe there is a better one...who knows...let me know if you do! I think that is all I will say for now...I will probably have more to say after i have owned it for a while and really broken it in...i have only had it for a week and a half! If anyone has any suggestions on the optimal tower speakers for the systems with a price tag at or under $800 a pair...please please please let me know...as this will be my next purchase! This reciever comes highly recommended by me and I would suggest this reciever to anyone and everyone! Similar Products Used: my last reciever...Kenwood KR-A5030...a huge step up from that...i have also auditioned the Onkyo 575, 676, and a few Yamaha's, nothing compares to this reciever for the price i paid! |

I've had this reciever for about a week now and all I can say is WOW! This thing kicks butt. I bought it from Bid.com for 529.00 (Thanks Craig)replacing a Kenwood 1080VR also reviewed. The Kenwood was rated at 120w a channel but this 85w per blows it away. It took me 20 min. to set it up and the remote isn't as bad as other reviewers say. I have it set up to control my DVD,TV,Cable box and VCR. I was going to buy the 3300 but I'm glad I saved the money. Now I can buy a AC-3 dish for the difference. For $529 its a steal. |

Strength:
OSD, great DD and DTS, controlled power output
Weakness:
Lack of digital output and surround pre-outs Wow, the Dolby Digital on this receiver is amazing! It kicks my last Yamaha's ass! Supremely well controlled power, even though I am only using small Acoustic Energy AE101's on all channels, with an AEGIS Sub. The tuner needs a good aerial, and my first model had a safety cut out problem, it did it too oftern. No problems since and it has changed my life! Strength:
great sound quality, clean dolby digital processing
Weakness:
no preouts for surrounds, no on screen for volume THIS IS THE BEST RECEIVER UNDER $6OO!!!!! I paid 549 plus tax at good guys(you can barter with them),and this is by far a much better unit than yamaha or onkyo offers in this price range. The sound is just pure and clean not over powering but very clean, while the onkyo was just a little bit rough, and the yamaha sounded ok but without 5channel stereo. If you can get this for less than $600 then you should jump at it!! really, with s-video switching, 85x5, great dolby digital processing,on screen display and overall great sound quality what else could you ask for.
