This is a re-vamp of my last entry. After reading the maual
at least 3 times,I figured out what setting to have with speakers,DTS,DD,5 channel sterio. And let me tell you, IT KICKS ASS! I have PSB 1000's for my front and PSB C-I 200 for th4e center. " The Matrix " in DD was a hole new movie then with my Marantz 550.This is the reciever Iv always wanted. The only thing I dint like was the fact yhat you can set each speaker at a differnt volume. That can be anoying.
The 5 channel sterio is great with the FM or CD sound's.

Strength:

Multiple inputs/settings and clean/crisp sound

Weakness:

manual is hard to follow

I'm still new in the Dolby Digital era but I felt this is the time. My newly built house is set for home theater with speakers in the ceiling so I wanted a good system.I had an idea of what I wanted from the stereo guy who wired my house. I went on UBID.com auction and saw that several people were bidding on the Denon AVR 2800. I figuered this must be a pretty decent one. I was right! I got it for a total of $561.00 (including shipping). The sound is great! One of my favorite features is the phono input for my 25-30 year old LP's. This sounds terrific in 5 Channel stereo! I haven't mastered the DD and DTS settings but I am satisfied with the 5 Channel in any event.I know its early ( I've only had it for a week)but so far the long wait was worth it.

Strength:

5 channel stereo, CRYSTAL CLEAR sound, DTS, AB speaker switching, plenty of inputs, nice remote(I like it at least), built in decoders, looks cool

Weakness:

too hard to turn off (sounds tooooo good)

I LOVE this machine even though I just got it today. I was thinking about the 3300, but 200$ is not worth a few extra watts and component switching. 85 watts is VERY loud (with my new set off Klipsch speakers)and you wont max out the volume anyways unless you like to blow you ears. I got a 5 year warranty for 40$ (I feel like I ripped the dealer off). 5 channel stereo is VERY cool. The A-B main speaker switching is nice (if you want to run outdoor speakers like me). Setup takes a little bit but when you get everything right, you wont want to turn it off. Got mine from United Audio for 699$. I will let you all know if anything happens to it in the future and will update this post soon.

Happy Hunting (BTW, I think more expensive cables are a rip)

Strength:

Quality construction, 5 channel stereo, 6 channel input,DD & DTS, value

Weakness:

Remote

I've only had this a few weeks, bought it from Sounddistributors.com for $583.00 delivered. Wow, very good looking and solid construction were my first impressions as soon as I took it out of the box. Nice looking dot matrix display, but it could be a bit larger - hard to see from my "big dog" chair 10 feet away. Upgraded from my old Pioneer VSX-5700S (Dolby Pro-logic). What ever happened to Pioneer's "flagship" (non Elite) models?

Choose the 2800 over the Onkyo (scared off by the hiss problems reported), Sony ES(scared off by the overheating reported by no less than half of the reviewers), Yamaha and the Pioneer Elite (comparatively more expensive). Took a while to set up (what ever happened to just plugging the bloody thing in?), but damn, what an improvement! My 10 year old Advents/Boston Acoustics/Yamaha speaker system sounds like a hero now! Louder, cleaner, tighter bass and words cannot describe the 5 channel stereo mode. Dolby Digital is outstanding, couldn't be more pleased.

I've done timely, extensive search for my upgrade. Denon is about the only reciever which I haven't heard any negative comments, aside from the mandatory sour-puss review. It offers just about everything except preamp outs for the rear.

There is no equal reciever on the market for the bang for the buck ratio.

5 stars for value, 4 1/2 stars for overall.

Who cares?

Weakness:

HISS & HUM

I had major problems with distortion on all channels with this receiver. So, I went out and bought a Onkyo 676. This receiver is quiet - the way a receiver should be! It's also the same price for the same options.

Forget Denon, buy a Onkyo!!

Strength:

Good Quality

Weakness:

Remote could be better

I've had the unit for about three months now. The sound is great when playing DVD's, CD's etc.(The house shakes when I play movies such as the Matrix).

I think that the tone controls could have more range in them (I know that my speakers can generate more bass then I can get from turning the setting to its max).

5Ch Stereo, clean, clear NO Hiss or HUM (Sorry Onkyo)

Weakness:

Remote is ugly

Had Onkyo for 10 years. When looking for new Digital Recvr, I had it narrowed down to Denon & Onkyo - Denon was my first choice, but I had the new Onkyo DTR-6 staring me in the face, so I broke down and bought it. It hissed and hummed, from center channel, iratating as hell! Just to make sure it wasn't me, I went out and got my 1st choice, the Denon AVR-2800... Wow! Music sounds great, DD movies kicks ass. The Onkyo hissed and hummed its way back to the dealer. Both were hooked-ed up identically, with the same cables etc. so it wasn't me or the way it was connected (As some other reviews for Onkyo suggested). Buy Denon you will not be dissapointed! Bought from authorized dealer for $799.00. I called Denon to inquire about warranty when buying from non-authorized (internet etc). He said that it is stated in the warranty that "warranty is valid only if bought from an autorized dealer". I contacted one of the internet dealers offering the 2800 for $625 to inquire about the validity of the claim. They emailed me back asking to call them back. I emailed them again, telling them I only needed an answer (I didn't want to get into a sales call). They never emailed me an answer (which is an answer). Be careful!

Strength:

Good DSP simulations, excellent sound in DTS mode aswell as good Dolby Digital.

Weakness:

Messy remote

When I upgraded from the Yamaha to the Denon, I was astonished by the great improvement in sound quality. In all modes Stereo and surround the "black box" excells.
I currently own two JBL front speakers, 2x10", and the AVR gives them more than enough watts to work with.
As opposed to the Yamaha....
I have only had it for a week, but I'm all the way impressed.

Wow. This receiver was a nice surprise. I was blown away by the tremendous improvement in sound quality vs. the Onkyo 575. This receiver is a great deal for the money. Plenty of inputs and a sweet sound. It's hard to turn it off. This receiver will be with me for a long, long time. 5.1 movies are outstanding, music is outstanding, what else can I say?
