Strength:

Plenty of inputs, not too many DSP modes, solid build, and future ready.

Weakness:

The remote could be upgraded, but it''s not all that bad.

I agonized over this purchase for quite some time. There are better sounding AVRs for stereo(Arcam AVR-200, Rotel RSX-972)but I couldn''t spend over $1000. I liked the NAD T751 but it didn''t have Dolby PL II and lacked inputs. Reviews on this site steered me away from the Marantz SR7200, so I bought the Denon. The stereo sound is good, and will get better when I upgrade my entry level Toshiba DVD player, but make no mistake my friends, this is a movie machine. Great features, very flexible, rich theatre sound, a joy to experience. I held out for Pro Logic II and I''m glad I did. I''ll never go back to regular sounding TV again. This is a great value for the money.

Strength:

6.1, DTS-ES,neo6,video connection,90W still good forsome user.digital andvideo could setup by you like I love this one. the sound is more sofe than yamaha, but more hard than pioner(but 49 is diffenent), sony,I don''t want to talk about the 2 ch sound. MADE IN JAPEN !!!

Weakness:

no use the denon audio power suppor.like the 3802. no with shur 32. the remote is to big. any way,you pay 799 that is best you could get.

will, this is a good product. the sound the direct is good. the movie I feel is good for all kind family use. when I listen the BB kind''s CD I could feel that kind emotion in him. but I think about my Mcintosh 1000,this power is like a music box will that is 5000 vs 799. So I put it with a pair Mirage Frx 3set in my bedroom. is good to have light vocal with direct mode. the 3802 power is better, because they use denon power center. and has 19 kg, 2802 only 12kg. I didn''t buy 3802 coz I don''t need that 32bit chip and 7 channl and 110w. if you need it buy 3802. but if you have money buy Mcintosh that is a totally different world. HOOOO!!!

Strength:

DTS real discreate, channelling, sorround, Prologic II, remote, manual

Weakness:

Front AV input - but I don''t need it.

This is absolutely one hell of all the receivers. Belive me, I was using JVC (shame on me) for last 5 years. and wanted to get a real high quality / cost effective receiver. after doing a month research i found Denon AVR2802/ Yamaha rx1200. compared those 2 in paper also in the store and in my friends place also. yes there are some pros & cons. but 2802 won in the battle. It took only 30 min to read the manual and 45 min to hook up. I don''t understand some of the reviewers mentioning they had problems in manual/ remote. i wanted to say some thing on those reviews, but i don''t want to hurt those. anyway I hope you all enjoying this receiver. Prologic II - really shows up when i watch even the regular TV. DTS - man it rocks the house. you should watch the "cloe encounters" movie. made in 1970''s, still rocks. I love to hear music on these. I hate my old JVC. that is not a receiver at all compare to this.

Strength:

Plenty of power. Sleek look. Remote has macro functions built in and macros you can program. Remote is not as bad as everyone says.

Weakness:

None

I stepped up from a 55wpc HK Pro Logic. The difference in power is amazing. I can hear details that I never knew existed. Great value and quality for price. The best entry level receiver with true DTS 6.1 discrete. This is the first time that I have wired everything through the receiver. It didn''t take too long to figure it out. Great look, great sound. According to the huge number of reviews I have read, Denon is very high quality.

Strength:

while the unit is operating, it seems to produce excellent sounds.

Weakness:

oh, that Operating Instructions book! It seems to be written for students at M.I.T. And the remote is the most convoluted mechanism I have ever had to use. Uttlerly useless for the audio enthusiast who is a novice at operating electronic gear! I have spent more time reading the book and trying to learn how to use each button than I spent researching my Master''s thesis. Shameful.

While I wish to write a favorable review concerning the musical quality of the product, my purpose here is to talk about the Denon remote control and the operating instructions text for the receiver. I had a professional installer wire my house for surround sound and I purchased some well reviewed electronic gear for my system. Unfortunately, the installer did not instruct me in the use and operation of each product. So I have had to rely on the manufactuers'' printed matter to direct my course of listening pleasure, or as I am finding out unfortunately, my displeasure. See below.

Strength:

Dolby Prologic II, DTS-ES 6.1 Discrete ... DD-EX 6.1

Weakness:

Remote .. never knew it was so bad until I really played with it. The Manual ... the technical writer at Denon is technically challenged

If you are looking for a good Prologic 2 and 6.1 EX/ES solution .. then this is it !! Having said that ... I use this receiver as a surround sound preamp ... I have an external Harman Kardon PA-5800 85w/ch 5-channel Amplifier. Yes the HK is more powerful (its a high current >70amps rated unit). The Prologic II sound is very good. The manual is very confusing. I am still not sure if DTS Matrix is better than DTS Non-Matrix ... the manual says it one way in one paragraph and the other way in another paragraph. I have surround back speakers ... but no sure what they do when listening to Dolby Prologic II or DD/DTS 5.1 sources ... can anyone explain ? I have another preamp (McCormack Micro Line Drive) to which I feed the front preamp outs from the Denon. My 2-channel SACD player analog out goes directly to the McCormack. The Denon is good ... but no where near the McCormack preamp which I bought used for $300 !! But then again, the McCormack sounds better than a $3000 Audio Research Preamp. Overall the Denon is a good unit. I am not sure if this is a overkill since I am not using the poweramp section of this unit. Having said that ... is there a way to disable the poweramp section of this unit ? Hopefully there is some sort of ribbon cable going to the power amp board ?

I am not a retailler of Denon, just a happy owner fo Denon''s product. PS Does anybody want to exchange with an Onkyo 696? Kidding again...(xaxaxa)

Strength:

sound quality and overall imaging

Weakness:

Horrible manual

Let me start off by saying that this is the best audio related purchase I have ever made. My system sounds one hundred times better with this receiver. I got it as an open box item and the price was just to good to pass up. It took me a while to figure things out using the horrible manual, but as soon as I got everything set up correctly I knew that it was a good product. It immediately made my front speakers, Paradigm Titans, come alive. The sound field is now much larger than with my old amp. I used to think that the highs on my fronts were too harsh but now they provide just the right level of detail. It also improved the mid range quality of my speakers which I thought they lacked in. Setting the internal crossover to 100Hz, made them sound even better. They now balance well with my PDR 10 sub. This receiver of course excels in HT use. I already had DD with my old receiver but I had no idea what I was missing until I got the 2802. Imaging is great and everything sounds much more natural, which is the ultimate goal of any HT system. With the use of good surrounds your completely enveloped with sound. Something that my old receiver was never able to do. Overall this is a great receiver that if within your price range should be at the top of your list .

Too big for my A/V rack...

In French?! Why not! J''avais opte pour le 1802 mais, avec mes C-4 (Energy, 6 ohms, 88 db, 175W) comme H-P avants, ca manquait de punch. Maintenant avec le 2802... WOW!!! Et dire que je n''ai pas de Subwoofer. Egalement tres bien pour utilisation en stereo a volume raisonnable...

Weakness:

OSD for volume

When I take a chance on new equipment, I think that it will be the best thing for my years first, eyes etc. I always try to find the best (for me)equipment at different price ranges One of this thing was AVR-2802 I don''t want to describe AV with PRO words but I think this AV has involving (own) sound in HT & Stereo (direct)modes. Very nice look, features...GREAT NAME, even MADE IN JAPAN.
