I have a question. I have the Carver 5.1 home theater system, and am considering buying the Denon AVR 3200. The only problem I see is that the speakers are 4 ohm impedance. Does anyone have any opinion or has used 4 ohm speakers to tell me if the receiver will handle the 4 ohm load. Thanks

I bought the 3200 a month ago and am very happy with it. I just have one problemwith the set up. I have used the composite video for monitor out, but I cannot
see any of the displays like volume changes, menus etc. on my TV. What am I
doing wrong?

Small buttons on the receiver

I have been happy with this since day one. The power, flexiblity, and variety of inputs/outputs creates an A/V receiver that does everything I could ask for and more. I highly reccomend this product to anyone interested.

Low number of digital inputs

This receiver kicks butt. What else can I say. It sounds great, has enough power to rattle my house, and certainly provides enough features. I am 17 and purchased this receiver in May of 1998. I worked all summer to pay for it and it was worth every penny. I looked at the yamaha price equivalent and this receiver just had more bang for the buck. Plus, the Denon name is impecable with many years of recording studio experience under their belt. You can't go wrong with a Denon. My brother has an AVR-2700, about a 1996 model, and it is also a very good receiver. When in doubt, go for a Denon!

Strength:

Solid build, ample power, high quality sound

Weakness:

no digital out jacks... and it could use a couple more digtal in jacks

I was somewhat swayed by the reviews on this site and found the 3200 for the bargain price of $550. Ever since I have been quite pleased with my purchase. Denon is known for making hi quality audio components and this is no exception. The dolby digital is first rate. After that you can never go back to pro logic. While it is true there is no dts decoding on this model it is an older unit (DTS was not as common a couple years ago). You are however given the option to upgrade via an outboard dts decoder (the necessary inputs are on the back.) The features are to numerous to mention. Sound quality it great, just be sure to go through the set up menu and use quality interconects and cables and properly calibrate everything. Now that it is an older model you may be able to find them at close out prices... I did. If so don't let it get away, you won't be sorry.

Weakness:

Layout of the remote is somewhat cumbersome.

I love this receiver. It is my first true home theater A/V receiver and it has exceeded my expectations. I am probaly not even utilizing all it's capabilities yet and may never.

At the risk of skewing the overall ratings for this product, I feel I must answer the post below:
The post below is not altogether true. I am certain that Denon would like to exclude all mailorder sales. Furthermore, I also believe that any Denon factory rep will tell you that "they do not authorize ANY mail order resellers". However, neither this statement nor the contractual language of Denon's warranty certificate supports the conclusion of: "if you buy a Denon receiver mail order it is not going to have a Denon warranty". If this were true, their warranty certificate would have to specifically say so. It does not. In fact, method of purchase is not addressed at all. What it does say is that in order to obtain factory warranty service, your dealer must be an "Authorized Denon Electronics Dealer". If your dealer (local, mailorder or whatever) is officially "authorized" by Denon, then the product is fully covered. If a dealer appears on the Denon web site as "authorized", then according to the legally binding warranty certificate any Denon product purchased from that dealer has complete coverage - period. Denon's attitude toward it's "authorized" local dealers who also sell via mailorder is no doubt very aggressive. Therefore, just in case a dealer's "authorized" status changes at some time in the future, you might want to print out the Denon website page which lists them. Also, if you need warranty service, not buying from a "local" dealer means that you will have to pay shipping to one of two Denon repair stations in Cerritos, CA or Parsippany, NJ. That is a risk you may or may not be willing to take for a $200+ savings in the initial purchase price. The big trick in buying Denon via mailorder with a full warranty, is finding an "authorized" dealer who is willing to do so and thereby place his status with Denon at risk. However, the dealer I mentioned in my post below was not the only "authorized" Denon dealer that sells locally and also is willing to sell via mailorder (at a substantial discount). I pray that you never need to use your warranty but at least now you have the facts. I won't post again and sorry for the "chat style" back-and-forth bs. Thanks for your patience.

First off before I give my glowing remarks on my new system, I wanted to reply to the previous review. I have contacted Denon and they do not authorize ANY mail order resellers, if you buy a denon receiver mail order it is not going to have a denon warranty.
Now as to my review. The system itself is superbly made, and the music and HT sounds are excellently reproduced. My largest complaint is the manual. It walks you through very well setting up your system but fails to explain half the features or how to do a great many things with the receiver. It is a typical "sterio" manual not overly easy to follow. The remote is very good for controlling the receiver, don't reccomend it as a universal however. Bottom line superb receiver just make sure you have access to a great resource such as the one you are reading this review on to get questions answered :)

In response to emails that I have received from my Jan 4th post:
To those of you who are considering a mailorder purchase of any Denon product - do yourself a favor and verify that the company you are buying from is an "authorized" dealer. Not factory authorized = no factory warranty. It says so on my warranty! Buy "grey market" and you will be depending totally on your dealer to provide any "warranty" service. That $50 or whatever you save now could come back to haunt you later. Maybe not, but why take the chance? BEFORE YOU BUY, use this link to see if your dealer is authorized: (http://www.del.denon.com/home/dealers.asp). To check on potential dealers, I found this source to be very helpful: (http://www.visi.com/~nau/mailorder/). The "Company Listings" are especially useful. It's a little dated but great stuff. I got my 3200 from Greg at The Sound Approach (Commack, NY/Ph:800-368-2344). Got a fair price, quick delivery with double boxing and they are an authorized Denon dealer. Two months and I still believe this little receiver is the best value for the money. Happy listening...

Strength:

DAMN, great receiver

Weakness:

Only one digital input....o well

I have been looking for the perfect receiver for several years now. I went from looking for pure power, Pioneers 165? watt per channel monster, which blew, to clean power, Denon. I can only say I am most satisfied with this purchase. I paid $1100 for mine, with the Monster cable wires, digital, and analog. Although I can get it for considerably less now, I do not regret it one bit. Sound is amazing. I went from a avr-2500, which I loved too, to this one, and I've been using it for over a year now. I'd rather watch movies in my room than in most theatre's now, mine sounds better. There are not many receivers that would be able to stand up to the punishment I put it through. I listen to everything from light jazz, to R&B and rap, to hardcore metal. For hours and hours at deafening volumes, then straight into a Jurasic Park, or Matrix. No clipping what so ever. I've got my speakers rewired to under 4 ohms, yes UNDER 4. The rated power for this receiver is only 85 watts, but people are nothing less than amazed by not only the quality, but the amount of sound. It's great for movies, or music. The best I've seen so far in terms of satisfying both of my tastes. One last thing to say, get one for yourself!!!
