This is a *great* product. I am using it in the family room for HT 10% and music 90%.

configuration:
denon avr3300
toshiba 2109 dvd
Hughes DTS
phillips CD player
JVC SVHS vcr

paradigm ams-250 inwalls front and rear
paradigm cc-350 center
paradigm ps-1000 sub

I also have the preamp out connected to (2) Sonance 260X3 amps driving 7 sets of speakers for the whole-house audio.

the system was easy to set up and worked flawlessly out of the box. DVD movies are a real treat. Most of the time listen to the commercial-free sattelite music channels. The preamp can be programmed to a separate source so that the whole-house audio can be playing CD while somebody is watching a DVD in the family room.

Strength:

Future ready with HDTV-capable video switching and an 8 channel audio input. Nice universal remote control operates all video components and offer menu features
for your DVD player.

Weakness:

The short delay when you switch between inputs and there is a click between switching.

This is a great receiver for those movie lovers who are seeking a receiver that provides an enormous amount of versatility. It has an sufficient amount of power and the reproduction of dialogue during Dolby digital playback is clean and natural sounding.

Sound & Vision's David Ranada states..."If your interest lie in clean, high powered reproduction of multichannel movie soundtracks and stereo music...Denon's AVR-3300 performs so well that even at $999 its a genuine bargain."

Home Theater's Joe Hageman states..."If I were in the market for a receiver, it would definitely be on my short list. I give this receiver a very high recommendation."

Strength:

Clarity, definition and power of the sound. Many I/O's, forward thinking with 7.1 upgradability. Remote is better than many AV universals.

Weakness:

Difficult to use. Must use remote to adjust some settings. The tuner is wacky to figure out. No A/B main speaker option.

I have recently auditioned this unit and compared it with the Yamaha 995 on my home setup.
The best thing about this receiver is the SOUND!! The definition, separation and clarity of the channels, even at the loudest volumes remain superb. When I compared the sound with the Yamaha I was convinced. The Yamaha sounds much harsher and muddled at high volumes. My ears were hurting with some of the highs. Not so with the Denon. The Denon remained true and clear. Much easier on the ears.
I am not too keen on the lack of 2 sets of main speakers or the difficulty with using the unit but I will find a way around the speaker issue ( I have a set of outdoor speakers that I have used as the 2nd Mains on my old Yamaha). And I know that with more use I will get accustomed to the functions of the reciever.
My Toshiba 3108 DVD works well with this. The Matrix action scenes surround the listener with such realistic sound effects that I looked over my shoulder more than once to make sure I wasn't a target!
I am quite impressed with this Denon.

I'm looking to upgrade to a real HT receiver (finally) and I've read all of the great reviews of this receiver as well as the AVR2800. I currently have a pair of Audio Control 31 band eq's on an Adcom stereo setup (no sub) and was thinking of getting a third to use for the center channel in a HT setup.

Short of switching to active speakers for L/C/R, has anyone had any luck hooking up eq's to these receivers in between the pre-outs and pre-ins ? Maybe even use the pair of eq's in the the tape loop, but this would prohibit separate settings on the center channel so it wouldn't be my first choice.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

PS. value/overall rating of 4 is just because you have put in something.

Strength:

5 channel stereo, clean sound

Weakness:

No digital out, lack of DSP modes

This is my first real A/V receiver and I'm very pleased with it so far. I was looking to upgrade to something that supported Dolby Digital and DTS for under a grand and wanted something better than your average system from Best Buy. I considered the Sony ES line but decided against it after hearing about heat problems.

Based on these reviews, and a recommendation from a friend of mine with a Denon 3200, I bought a Denon AVR-3300 and couldn't be happier. The local Denon dealers all wanted full price, so I ordered mine through mail order from www.sounddistributors.com for $825 delivered and saved myself a few hundred bucks.

I'd have to say my favorite feature is the 5 channel stereo. I listen to all my CD's in this mode now. The weaknesses such as no digital out and lack of DSP modes don't matter to me as I don't use these features anyway.

The system got a great review in the December Sound & Vision magazine so I'm convinced now I made the right choice.

I haven't found any yet!

I've only had this receiver a month but so far I'm astounded! Great product, wired to Sony ES cd player with an optical connect--awesome sound. This system has given new life to my 11 year old Advent Legacys. Using all Advents right now-5 speakers, no sub. Getting ready to upgrade everything else to go with this outstanding receiver. I waited 2 years to step-up from my old Sony ES...Read all the reviews on this site plus Home Theater Mag and Sound and Vision. Everyone that has reviewed this receiver in the mags loved it!Thanks to all of you previous owners who posted reviews--it helped me decide on the Denon. I will follow-up in a few weeks with a more detailed review and after I've been able to spend more time listening...

none, none, none!

This receiver is an astounding all around unit. Whatever you run on this rig, it sounds great. Music, movies, five channel stereo, they all sound perfect. Run out and grab one of these babies-it's the real deal! As for Steve from Miami, I think either he was dropped on his head as a child, or the white powder down there has damaged his brain! Definately five stars all around!

Simply Amazing !!! I've waited for almost a month for this receiver to arrive, and finally it did, I've being using it for the past two weeks and it exceeded my expectation. The finish & build quality were excellent, the sound quality was exceptional, warm and natural ,especially when using the 5-channel stereo, it is true what you guys said in the reviews.

For the past couple of months , I've tested many receiver , the Nakamichi AV-10, Yamaha 995, Pioneer Elite VSX-27tx,HK AVR-65 , and the Denon AVR-3300.

I must have owned 5 receivers in the last year or so!! and havent been satisfied.

Oh!! By the way thanks for the reviews it really made me make the right choice.

5***** all the way
