none come to mind

Weakness:

where do I start?

This was my second and last Denon purchase. I bought an AVR-1700, many years ago and was terribly disappointed in it. When I decided to build a home theater system, I was swayed by all the glowing reviews, customer testimonials, and slick sales talk about Denon. But after wasting more money and buying the hype, I just don't understand why Denon is so revered and respected. This thing turns itself off after 15-20 minutes, the on-screen display doesn't work, the bass is awful...for the few minutes the receiver plays before shutting down. I wish I had done more research before buying it. I've found that these receivers are prone to overheating problems...had I checked out the receiver on my own, I'd have saved myself $750 and a lot of frustration. Do yourself a BIG favor and stay away from the 3300 or any other Denon product. The Yamaha 995 is far superior in every way, and the Sony ES 777 is awesome! I just bought the Sony, and I may never have to buy another receiver for at least ten years. Try the Sony or Yamaha...run like hell from anything made by Denon.

lots of power , sound quality , user friendly

I SELL HIGH END AUDIO AND AM VERY IMPRESSED WITH THE POWER AND SOUND THIS RECEIVER PUTS OUT. I HAVE COMPARED THIS TO ADCOM , AND THE DENON SOUNDS BETTER ON MOVIES AND DOES REAL WELL ON MUSIC ALSO. A REMOTE LIKE THE RC2000 WOULD BE THE ONLY THING I THINK THIS UNIT NEEDS. COMPARED TO OTHER PRODUCTS I SELL THIS IS CAKE TO SET UP, YOU DON'T FIND YOURSELF LOOKING FOR THE OWNERS MANUAL TO DO SIMPLE FUNCTIONS. I HAVE HAD NO PROBLEMS WITH THIS UNIT AND HAVE SOLD WELL OVER 40 OF THESE AND HAVE NOT SEEN 1 COME BACK OR ANY COMPLAINTS.

Strength:

Everything said before. After owning this receiver for about 3 months now, I'm really shocked as to how close this receiver sounds to my NAD C340. It might (might) not be as musical as the C340, but the C340 is an integrated amp. This is a receiver for crying out loud. Receivers aren't supposed to sound this good on music!!!! Very pleased.

Weakness:

I wish it had one more coaxial digital input, but it has a couple of optical ins so I can't complain too much.

After almost 3 months of use, I find myself neglecting my music system. I even took my expensive Kimber wires off of my C340 just to see what the Denon could do with the good stuff hooked up. I'm amazed. The sound is even more focused, open, and involving- ie. more musical. I couldn't believe it. I haven't heard my NHT Super 2s sing like they do now. I was almost considering trading them in for the 2.5i's, but I I think I'm going to wait a LONG time before I do any speaker upgrading now, thanks to this receiver. I really couldn't be more pleased. I sometimes wish it had DTS-ES or THX-EX, but then I think about how much this receiver cost me, and then I look at my living space thinking of where I would even have room to put that extra speaker or 2, and come to realize that the extra cost and room requirements aren't worth it right now. Still in college. To top it off, I have had absolutely ZERO problems with my 3300. BUY THIS FROM A LOCAL AUTHORIZED DEALER!!!! I CAN'T STRESS THIS ENOUGH!!! Maybe you'll pay a little more than buying on-line, but hey, look at the reviews for the people who have bought locally and the people who have bought from the internet. Coincidence? I doubt it. Chances are, the dealers that don't sell on the internet are getting the newest of the new stock. Other non-authorized dealers are probably getting the bottom of the barrel. Perhaps a strategy by Denon to get people to not buy from the net. I don't know, maybe I'm thinking too deeply about it.

Happy Listening

Strength:

Excelent clairity, Extremely large power reserves, can plug in everything but the kitchen sink.

Weakness:

No digital out (not a really big deal)

I realize that I'm not supposed to post more than one review, but I feel that I must extol the virtues of this truely terrific piece of audio equipment. Unlike some others I have no problem with the remote and have noticed no fan noise or excessive heat, even when driving very low impedence speakers. For the record my system consists of the following:

Reciever - Denon AVR-3300 (int. L&R amps power bass section
in a bi-amped main speaker)
Power amp - Onkyo M220 (powers the treble in a bi-amped
main speaker and/or an auxillery set of
speakers)
Speakers - Main - Theater - Wharfedale Saphire 89s
(bi-amped)
Speakers - Main - Stereo - Wharfedale Modus Music One Six
Speakers - Center - Wharfedale Saphire Center
Speakers - Rear - Theater - Wharfedale Modus Mini
Speakers - Rear - Music - Wharfedale Modus Music 8
VCR - Mitsubishi 4 head Hi-Fi
DVD - Toshiba w/ColorStream component video out
TV - 36" Zenith/Inteq w/component video in
CD - California Audio Labs 5 disc changer w/opt. digital out

Strength:

Easy to set up and play right out of the box.

Weakness:

The speaker connections are too close together and made it difficult to connect them. The volume readout is too small to see from across the room.

I really enjoyed having this unit. It had great sound and we really liked the "Video Game" setting when playing Nitendo64 through it.

However, we had to send it back due to a major design flaw. The unit will overheat and low listening levels (-39db) and even higher after some time being played. I contacted Denon technical service directly and they confirmed that there is a design flaw in the cooling process. At low listening levels the fans run in "quiet" mode and there is not enough cooling.

They told me there is a "fix" for this problem. I was not happy about just purchasing a brand new unit and finding out there is a design flaw that requires a fix. Therefore, I returned the unit. I am now looking at the AVR-4800 as an alternative but do not like having to pay twice the cost.

beautiful sound quality

Weakness:

can't get the damn on-screen menu to work!

I had originally purchased the Pioneer 26tx receiver. After a shipping snafu, And the unavailablity of the 26tx, I got a great deal on the Denon. I got in 5 days as promised. I was originally apprehensive of ordering this online but what the hell, you only live once! So after 2 days of installation and a lot of tweaking I got it working. No problems with overheating, no problems at all. Last night I turned to PBS and there was a classical music thing on. WOW!!!!!!!! With the 5 channel stereo set-up the clarity, the detail, I closed my eyes and turned up the volume, and Iwas there in front row! With your eyes closed, you can here people cough behind you. the clarinets were up on stage to your left, the fluts to your right. Just amazing detail! I have never heard more detail, not to the point it envelopes you, and pulls you into the t.v. and with your eyes closed, you were there. I couldn't reccomend this receiver enough! One thing I did note though, A lot of people have complained about this receiver. With my own trials and errors I have found that probably up to half are associated with the installation itself. My reciever is in an enclosed wall, with just the face showing. I gave it adequate room to breath and the receiver runs all day long never once getting hot to touch when I access it. I highly recomend this reciever!
Oh, Yeah, The on-screan menu thing, depends on how and where you placed your outgoing t.v. jacks!

Strength:

Lots of inputs, plenty of power, true 5 channel stero output, clean sound.

Weakness:

Heat output - it runs hot.
Yes the remote takes a while to learn & it tends to lose the programed settings

Plenty of reviews to read so I'll keep this short. I liked the variety of inputs on the back for our other components as not all are new. Component, composite, RCA, S Video and Digital. This let us hook up all of our components using the best option available for that component. Very clean sound, clear between tracks. We love the 5 channel stereo when we want to fill the room. This will drive all five channels with out the ohm reduction to the rears that others do. Ours runs fairly warm so be sure to provide the ventilation the manual indicates. Yes the remote needs work, there are numerous inexpensive universals out there that you can purchase if you can't take time to learn theirs. Shop the net then find a good local dealer, they will often match the price. We got ours for $750. The heat out put and the remote keep this unit from getting 5 stars. Alittle picky but room for improvement.

Strength:

Sounds Great. Awesome features, specially DTS sounds great

Weakness:

Remote too complicated. THX compatiblity would be great.

I have installed my Denon AV3300 with Energy Speakers.
(Energy 28P, center, rear & 12" e:XL Sub). It really kicks great. Denon really lives up to its price range.

Strength:

Very flexible, plenty of power.

Weakness:

Fan startup/shutoff noise, still somewhat confusing controls

Having owned this unit since 2/4, I've had an opportunity to see and hear what all the excitement was about. I'm pretty happy, having replaced an old (quality) Yamaha dolby-surround receiver whose rear channels had failed twice (didn't bother fixing it the second out-of-warranty time). The dolby-surround sound seems much better than that Yamaha was ever able to demonstrate. The digital surrounds are also wonderful. Plenty of power, seemingly clean. Haven't quite gotten around to any critical musical listening yet, though.

Only gripe at this point is that the fan seems to be noisy during its startup/shutdown cycle. When there's little/no sound coming from the receiver, it's a pretty obvious sound that I could do without. (It's quiet out here in the middle of nowhere, so I pretty much can hear just about any sound this receiver makes, in spite of my not so perfect anymore hearing). The unit does run way warm, which means the turntable does not have a place to sit at the moment (the Yamaha rarely got particularly warm).

And, yes, the remote control is still a bit difficult to operate, though not as bad as some insist.

Bought locally, which means not much of a discount, as that doesn't seem to be the way they operate around here. But aside from the fan, the unit seems to be operating perfectly.
Altered States last night, whew...

Inputs most used: Sony KV-32XBR51 TV & DVP-S550D DVD, General Instruments C-Band satellite receiver, hodge-podge of speakers (B&W DM2000s L+R front, Yamaha NS-C110 center, JBL J2060 L+R rear), Mitsubishi HS-U790 S-VHS.

I have not had any problems with the way this receiver is made. Nothing has fallen off, it is a heavy piece. Unless it wasnt working correctly or if people we reporting bad things happening with the receiver, who cares that i was made in Korea/or has aluminum instead of steel. That it costs this much and still out performs most receivers that cost even more,(ones made with steel cases and made in Japan or America or wherever other then Korea) makes it even better.
