Strength:
Lots of power. Fantastic sound quality for movies & music Good remote I found it quite easy to set up Excellent value
Weakness:
Gets hot if not in given adequate cooling space Excellent piece of gear. I found the set up very easy, and no problems with the manual. Initially I couldn't get a video signal from my DVD player, but resetting the rcvr's microprocessor did the trick (manual explains how to do this). I havn't had any problems with the remote. Very easy to set up, and learn function is invaluable. Sound is excellent. I use KEF and Mcintosh speakers and this rcvr brings out the best in them. Lots of power. Great effects. Saving Private Ryan is simply astounding with this machine. Similar Products Used: Sony Kenwood KEF Mcintosh |

Having read all the reviews on this Denon 3802, I decided to buy it. But unfortunately, I just found out the NEW DENON 3803 will be out at the end of September this year. Therefore, I will wait for a while to get a even better piece of receiver. For those of you who just bought 3802, you must be sick. However, I do want to tell you that the NEW 3803 will not be made in Japan. You should still be glad that you've made a good investment on thsi system. |

Strength:
- Dolby Digital sound - Jaw dropping amazing. - Plenty of inputs
Weakness:
- CD stereo sound - terrible - Remote control - NASA scientists can't even figure it out. - Wish there was one more coax digi input. - Useless front panel - Instruction book is basically written backwards! (Read the whole thing before you start playing around with it) I had a great sounding Onkyo reciever that I had to replace due to all the new technology. I wanted to hear the new Dolby Digital DVD's that are out so I started researching. It came down to the Onkyo 797 or 898, Yamaha 1200, and Denon 3802. I bought the Denon due to price and features, and the great thing about it is the Dolby Digital. Simply amazing! I was blown away by the sound. I've watched Star Wars:Episode One 3 times just to hear all the surround audio. Now the bad stuff... I played my CD's and, eek, crap. I changed settings, played around with it, and still, sounds terrible. Too bright, it's muddy and flat. My old Onkyo was 100x better for CD audio. The remote, omg, terrible. It's stressful to change components. You have to press several buttons just to change from cable to dvd or anything. It's insane. Similar Products Used: Onkyo 797 Yamaha 1200 |

Strength:
It is a great receiver. Probably one of the best in the sub $1000 market.
Weakness:
None that I can notice I thank the many reviews that other listeners have taken the time to submit. This is my 5th AV receiver since beginning my craze with an off-the-shelf Technics back in 1994. Boy have we come a long way. The 3802 is powerful and versitile. As many have stated; it is enough power to drive most speakers, and it has plenty of inputs for several AV connections. My experience with this receiver has been very good. I would like to first talk about that which was most important to me, the amplification: I was very pleased by the amount of power and the low level of distortion in both two channel and with five channels driven. It is much better than the receivers I had owned previously to the 3802. The sound is warm and full. I was quite impressed to have good stereo sound from a surround receiver. Processor: I have noticed no delay in source recognition. The processor is fast and accurate. I'm not one to use DSP's alot, but I do enjoy DPL-II on my Star Wars VHS tapes. I love 5 channel stereo for most sporting events. Matrix mode is also good for many VHS titles. DD and DTS are very standard now and most processors are similar. Inputs/Outputs: There are several including: 3optical/1coaxal assignable digital in and 1 out. 2in 1out component video(not true HD frequency), and several AV ins/outs. Tuner: I think the tuner works very well. I do have a good UHF/VHF/FM antenna, yet I am able to lock into stations that would fade on some of my other receivers Remote: It does a great job of controlling the receiver. Inputs, speaker selections, surround modes and everything else on the receiver. It controlls my Hitachi TV and VCR, Pioneer DVD-525, and Kenwood CD player quite well. It has a huge problem learning commands for my DishNetwork PVR-508. I think short commands from the factory remote are not learned on the Denon remote well. I found this web site over a year ago and decided 6 months ago to purchase a new AV reciever. I am not a pro in audio, but I know what sounds good, and I know brand name and quality is a leading factor. I want my unit to last 15+ years. I never knew of Denon until I started my research. Now, Denon is a MUST HAVE product. Anyone know when the 3803 will be out. That is the unit I want from Crutchfiled, but still waiting on the unit. Hopefully it will also sell for $1,000 |

Strength:
Super clean sounding, plenty of power, excellent styling, total flexibility regarding input of various devices digital or analouge.
Weakness:
confusing remote, hard to access speaker connections (too close together) I was in the market for a new AV receiver and had settled on a mid priced unit from Yahama. Before purchasing I took a trip to one of the better pawn shops in my area and there sat a Denon 3802. After a bit of haggaling I had the price down to a mear $300.00, after an extended inspection I decided that the unit was sound and that I should chance it, I went ahead and made the purchase. The most impressive thing (I think) about the 3082 is the sheer number of inputs, after outgrowing my last two AV receivers I can honestly say that I will ahve a hard time outgrowing this one. You can hook virtually any combination of components up to this unit, the component video ins and outs make it ideal for higher end video. The performance is nothin short of flawless. The power is clean and plentiful, the styling is perfectly conservitive my only complaint thus far are difficult to use speaker terminals. If you are in the market for an AV Reciever, the Denon 3802 is an outstanding bargian, even if you have to pay full price! After living with this unit for about a month I really feel for the poor sap who had to pawned it! Similar Products Used: Sony, Yamaha |

Strength:
Sound Quality, 5 channel stereo.
Weakness:
The only thing i did not like was the remote. I find this receiver to be the best bang for the buck under $1000. Just the fact that it does component video swiching(my tv had only one component input) makes it a videophile dream. I highly recomend this unit. Strength:
Ample power, ease of use, good manual, good remote.
Weakness:
None that I can find. This receiver is great. I purchased it in part to the reviews on this site. I haven't been disapointed. It drives all of my speakers 6.1 system with no problems. It is so clean sounding from low volume to the cops are coming levels. It is fantastic for movie soundtracks. I can't express how much I love this amp. It's easy to use too. The manual is written so that you can actually use it. Similar Products Used: Onkyo and Pioneer |
