I've had mine for 2 weeks now, and one word describes the 5700 - AMAZING!!!
Everything sounds so wonderful - CDs, DVDs, DirecTV... Heck - even my old turntable sounds great again!

I was listening to an old Don McLean song I haven't heard in years - Chain Lightning - brought tears to my eyes because it sounded so fresh and new...

The sound totally fills the room even when running in direct mode from a CD.

Don't get me started on the DVD performance. The Eagles' Hell Freezes Over in DTS was incredible.

One note - I found that the 5700 needed a few days of "break in" before it hit its peak. I know solid state stuff should be OK right out of the box, but I swear that the performance drastically improved after a week or so...

Strength:

Build Quality, Very clean highs & Lows, EXCELLENT Soundstage

Weakness:

No Volume display On-Screen

I have been deep into Audio/Video for 20+ Years now, and I thought that when I (Upgraded to seperates that I was really gaining in Quality, Power and Seperation! Boy was I WRONG!!
I Have, (Scratch that) Had, A B&K Reference 20 Pre/Pro, with the Adcom 5503 for my fronts and the B&K 1400 2-Channel Amp for my rears, My Speakers being the Glorious Klipsh KSP 400's with matching Center and Rears. I always felt like there was something missing, I was never truly happy with it. I came into these reviews looking for what I thought was an Overpriced Unit (Denon 5700). I had owned the Denon 3700 before but had traded up to my seperates. Well My brother-in-Law was going to buy the AVR 3300 and I was going to trade up to the Krell HT Standard, when he said wy would you do that when your system sounds great the way it is. I'm thinking but I'm not happy with it! So I read all your reviews and I head to my local Ovations to hear what al the fuss was about with The Denon 5700. I could stop hear and just say WOW, but this piece deserves so much more, If anybody gives this less than 4.50 stars they are an AMATEUR PERIOD! The soundstage that the Denon creates is Incredible, not to mention I did not know how bad I had missed the 5-Channel stereo mode. It's not about Wattage people, it's about Current and efficiency!! The Denon moves my speakers like I have never heard before, I feel like I am listening to a new set of speakers. The Denon AVR 5700 F***ING RULES!!

This receiver is good with all the processing capabilities and all but it just doesn't sound as clean and balanced as does the Marantz SR-18

Strength:

Everything.....need not say more

Weakness:

Remote...maybe??

This is the best receiver to me hands down due to features, clean power, looks, ergonomics, processing...ect..Marantz sounds great too but a bit too soft for me, plus one could get the Denon easier for less if they look around.

Strength:

Too many to list. Tremendous. fluid power and efficiency!

Weakness:

None whatsoever!

I used separates in the past and I now have realized this receiver shoots down the case for separates. In THX mode, George Lucas would be proud. Movies and CDs explode. Try to find it for under $2K.

Strength:

Many, many. Power, inputs, versatility, build quality ...

Weakness:

none

I have to laugh at some of the rediculous bad review below. This is a TREMENDOUS receiver. It has every input/output you could ever dream of, component video switching, 8 selectable digital inputs (coax, optical), on and on ...

I can add nothing new to the positive comments already listed below. This, now discontinued receiver, is simply an AWESOME piece of equipment. Anyone who owns one will say the same thing.

Strength:

Smooth sound, Plenty of power (conservitivly rated), configuration options, build/parts quality.

Weakness:

Graphical configuration menus have too much background "noise" onscreen.

A very fine receiver. The best I have ever seen anywhere near it's current sales prices. I got mine recently from Ubid. The Burr-Brown DACs and the preamp section easily replaced my audio alchemy seprates for music. I am even for the first time ever really enjoying a DSP mode for music (maxrix mode). I am even happy using it's internal amps for two channel listening. Previously I was using my Adcom GFA-5500 for the two front channels via the reciever's pre-outs, but on this one I don't feel the need. On DVD films, I have found the decoding to be almost as good as anything I have heard. On "The Haunting" the reciver never fails to put out. "Terminator 2" had similar impact. I do see what some have said about the bass being slightly thin in two channel, but it has not been a problem. This is the best reciver I have owned, and makes me feel like I made the right choice. I was leaning towards seperates, but could not pass this up. 5 stars for value at current B stock prices.

Strength:

Endless power, built like a tank, pure, unadulterated sound, enough connections to wire a cathedral

Weakness:

*weighs* like a tank, runs a bit hot, remote is so end-of-the-90's (solved by getting a Pronto, anyway)

Bought a demo unit prior to its being swapped for an AVR5800 in the audiophile room at the retailer. Whips my home theatre (Toshiba 6200 DVD, Toshiba W804 S-VHS, old Panasonic LD, Panasonic HDTV decoder, Polk RM7500 surrounds, Sony VPL -VW10HT projector, BetterCable interconnects) and makes it beg for more. Seamless connectivity, clear setup and docs, power, power and more power--but clean power. Oh, and as to the 1-star post below: could you be a little more specific about your negative experience, or did you forget to turn it on (it is a bit weak when off...)?

Bought this over the AVR4800 due to its availability and this being such a good deal (also, I don't really have the space for proper THX EX, anyway)
