Overall this is a good machine for home theater as well as 2 channel audio. I wouldn't say it is worth its retail price, but at $1999 it is certainly a good bargain. Email me for details if you so desire.

Strength:

THE EASE WITH WHICH THE ENTIRE SYSTEM CAN BE SET UP WITH THE ON SCREEN MENU, AS WELL
AS A LEARNING REMOTE THAT CAN CONTROL YOUR
ENTIRE SYSTEM. ALSO UPGRADEABLE FOR FUTURE
SOUND FORMATS. NOT TO MENTION POWER TO SPARE, WITH THE BEST PROCESSING I HAVE FOUND IN A HOME AV RECEIVER, WITH ALL CURRENT SURROUND FORMATS.

Weakness:

NONE THAT I HAVE FOUND.

EXCELLENT WITH EVERYTHING ONE COULD WANT
IN A HOME RECEIVER. IT'S A PLEASURE TO OWN
AND SIMPLE TO OPERATE WITHOUT SACRIFICING
ANY IMPORTANT FEATURES.

Strength:

Great silky smooth sound

Weakness:

None that I can see or hear

I have had my Denon 5700 for a little over month now and I couldnt be happier. I have had the same speakers for 23 years and this is the best they have ever sounded. The Denon has a much smoother and warmer sound than the Yamaha had. The Denon never runs out of power where as the Yamaha would get rather bright and harsh when pushed. The 5 channel music is very neat but I love the way the Denon sounds in 2 channel. I have some cds that I have never thought sounded quite right, I hesitate to say that they sounded better on album but they just were not quite right on cd. Now I dont have that problem, the Denon seems to resolve the music so much better than anything I have had in the past. The THX processing for movies works quite well, bright sound tracks are mellowed out, I seem to use this on almost all video whether it be dvd, sat, vhs or cable it all seems to benefit. The Denon in my opinion is a great value and I dont see how anyone could possibly be disappointed.

Strength:

Overall Value. 5 channel stero mode. Componet Switching. Manual. 7.1 Surround Support

Weakness:

Remote. Built in Macros.

What can I say...One of the best investments I've made. Metallica and Korn never sounded so good. Hard Rock in 5 channel stereo mode...there is a god! Biggest complaint is the fan noise that spins up and down? Otherwise, take the 12 month financing and commit to it!

Strength:

Insane Power

Weakness:

Poor Imaging and the treble is too harsh.

I have owned this product for quite some time and have developed a love hate relationship with it. To start I will list my other system components because in all fairness the amp is only one part.
Energy c-6, AC-300, Audissy 3+2's
Sunfire TrueSub MKII
MIT Terminator 4 BiWire Cable and other Medium and High grade Monster off the shelf cables.
Panasonic DVD-a310
Pioneer Elite 50+1 Cd changer
The 5700 is a great receiver however it's not the best sound I've heard for this price range. As I said above it has so much power that with my sub and rather sensitive speakers I have never cliped it once. Also in it's favor it has so many connectors that I don't think I'll ever run out. All this comes at a price. The 5700 can't even keep up with my old old prologic Sony STRD-915 at imaging or musical life. Knock that old Sony all you want but you could pinpoint every last sound in a 360degree sound stage. I'm not sayin that a $400.00 Sony receiver from 1994 can outperform a $2800 New Denon but I am saying that while the music is punchy, detailed, and loud it lacks life. It was the latest and the greatest with every GeeWiz feature out there but I sacrificed sound quality to get it. My advice is to do it right and go really cheap or go separates. But mega receivers arn't all their hype cracks them up to be. Its powerfull and it is impressive to friends to have sitting on your rack but it isn't perfect sounding and isn't that all that matters anyway.

Beats separates

I heard this receiver and IMHO, it outperforms many "Hi-End Separates" This amps does better with simple and high efficiency loads. Electrostatics are out of the question. Of course my large rear projection TV kills any remnants of a sound stage. My friend throws a blanket over his when listening to music only. It help a little. That's why any serious audiophile IMO that wants to take the A/V plunge, should settle for a ceiling mount projector, with a pull down or motorized screen. When listening to serious music, you can remove any obstacles between your main speakers. I still haven't figured out what to do with the center speaker.
I looked around and found good prices on Denon at YourInsider.com

Strength:

Real quality sound in stereo as well as in HT. Packed with features

Weakness:

Nothing major as such..

This receiver is the king of it all. It's practically got any feature you would care to think of. I auditioned the AVR5700 several times and each time explored a different feature I visited the store. I am completely satisfied with my receiver which was an upgrade for me from the Kenwood 1090VR model. The DTS/Dolby Digital sound is outstanding! The Stereo mode for CDs was also substantially above average. The set up was really straight forward. Also, another thing I would like to mention is that I bought my receiver for about $1950 on the internet so I feel it was money well spent.
There are, however, a couple of minor glitches I found with the receiver of this caliber. Firstly, I don't quite understand why would DENON not have the VIDEO SELECT function on the remote when this is even available on the AVR3200 remote. I really felt the need for this while switching from Satellite/DVD mode to CD. Secondly, The Volume display on the receiver is kinda small to read if you have kept the receiver at a distance from the place of watching in the Home Theater.
I still would like to rate it with 5 stars for it's overall quality and performance.

Broke one month after purchase

I purchased this "B stock" unit from www.UBID.com. The price was just over $1800. B stock means the unit has been refurbished because it was defective for some reason. The unit worked fine for about four weeks, then it repeatedly shut itself off about two seconds after I turned it on. Could there be an internal short? Anyway, it's in service now. Fortunately the breakdown occurred within the 90 day Denon warranty on B stock items.

Strength:

plenty of power, 5 channel stereo mode, very deep clean Bass

Weakness:

small volume display, extremely large cabinet

Receiver has plenty of power to spare.

Compared to the Yamaha 992 that I owned, the Bass is very deep and clean.

The 5 Channel stereo mode is a must have to liven up some of your older CD's and to really create a great soundstage.

Sound from this receiver is just incredible to say the least
