I bought this one on clearance for $150.00 as a second receiver for 2 channel stereo and Dolby prologic. It goes great with my Energy take 5 speakers and the second TV. What a steal. |

Strength:
none
Weakness:
Static when volume adjusted. Horrible sound. I've had this unit for 3 years now. I bought it because I thought Denon made quality equipment ... This unit has permanently tarnished Denons reputation in my mind. Sure it has $3 binding post, but the headphone jack on my sound card drives my speakers with better sound. I wish I knew about good sounding systems when I purchased this unit. I don't know if my home theater experience will be that same without the distinctive hiss I hear when I adjust the volume. |

decent entry-level receiver for stereo music. have not tested its pro-logic capabilities or dsp modes.well-built for the price w excellent binding posts for the main speakers. fm-reception is poor (i never listen to it anyways). remote is intelligently laid-out and can be used w/o sight (by touch & feel that is). its 50 watt amps were enough to light up my 15 x 25 living space. does begin to strain on my csw ensembles when i turn it up a little past 12 o'clock on the volume whenever i get entranced by a particular cd-track. much more musically satisfying than similarly priced yamaha model i tested. the harmon kardon 3250 receiver sounded warmer and more realistic for vocals, but for the same price i decided to buy this unit for its surround sound capabilities. its the best comprimise i could find for an extremely tight budget. one of the best sub-$300 receivers. 3.5 stars (but i'll round it up to 4 since the rating options don't allow that). |
