I have owned this receiver (though I use it exclusively as an amp) since the late 90's paired with Bic America Ventur V604 rear projection speakers. Everybody and I mean everybody who had listened to this system raves about the fidelity of the sound. The instruments are where they should be in the sound field. the musicians feel like they"re almost there.The rear projection speakers create a soundscape that is incredible. I will never replace this amp or the speakers, the system is perfectly mated at this point. A true pleasure everytime I listen to full digital Direct.

You have to have the remote to tune in radio stations (what were the engineering folks thinking!). Gets a little hot.

I bought this for what I consider a steal on e-bay. I am using it for my garage because I had to send my factory refurbished Harmon Kardon back because it had some issues. This is a great receiver in 2 channel mode with a sub, and some Bose 301's. Sounds wonderful. Gets a little hot when pushed hard, but I am totally impressed by these older model Denon products. I also bought an AVR-3030 for my living room.

I purchased it as part of an HT package at goodguys. I was told that it was the same as the avr2800. However the avr95 has more power and a direct mode. Compared to other avr's of the same price range I recomend this one for small to medium HT set up.

Great Sound

No DTS

Went from a JVC RX-888V to the AVR95, but had to take it back. After about 20 mins of running time, this unit would generate too much heat. I could hold my hand on top of the enclosure for no more that about 3 secs, or else I would get a serious scorch!

FYI-I was told that the avr 95 is marketed for sears and other stores like that. Supposedly it is similiar to the 2700 but it has a weaker power supply and its amp section is of lower quality. this came from an employee of an HT store. You may want to confirm with Denon if you are considering this receiver. It sells for less than the 2700 which would lead me to believe it is a lesser model.

Awsome sound, 5 channel stereo

only one fiber port, no dts

I have this unit playing through Energy take 5 speakers. I really love the sounds I get. The music is incredible, and really fills a room in the 5 channel stereo mode. The clean powerful amps really produce accurate reproduction with my ever growing collection of music DVD's (Eagles hell freezes over, Roy Orbison Black and White). Other than not having DTS and not enough fiber ports (not all of my components have coax digital output) I would definitely recomend this receiver to any begining A/V enthusiest. The 5 channel stereo is also a real treat.

Is this the same reciever as the AVR 2700? I was told that it was, but that it was part of Denon's Home Theater product line. Why would Denon have the same reciever, the 2700, listed under their Stereo product line when it is the same machine? Somebody help me out with this one. The 95 is rated at 95 watts at 1khz. This should be around 80 watts from 20-20khz, which is how the 2700 is listed. I guess they rate the 95 at 1khz in order to make it appear more powerfull. Humm! Feel free to e-mail me. I was searching for a high current receiver and wanted a good quality one. Finally I ended up with this superb receiver from Denon - the AVR-95. Its channels are fully discrete. I upgraded from a a Sony arv1070. The remote control is excellent specially its learning functions capabilities and the glow in the dark keys. I hooked up all my components. My DVD player is connected via a digital coaxial port and my LD via the optical port. My system consists of the following:

In response to the previous posting: I look into both AVR95 and AVR2700 and both have the IDENTICAL power transformer; therefore most likely their amplifier section should be similar if not identical. On the other hand, one noticetable difference is that AVR2700 is advertised as having Burr-Brown 24/96kHz DA converter while there's no mention of such DA converteer on the AVR95. The difference in DA converter may account for the $50 difference between them.
Using the AVR95 as primary a pre-amp (I have Carver as my main poweramp) I have to say that AVR95's pre-amp section in 2-channel music production is outstanding - very quiet and smooth sounding. I only use the buil-in amp briefly and it sounds fine but using external Carver amp improved the sound further.
In term of home theater, AVR-95's Dolby-Digital decoding is flawless. Having SVHS switching is also a big plus especially if someone has both SVHS VCR and DVD.

Well, I just purchased the AVR 2700 Denon and so far I am very pleased. The dealer (Brandsmart) offers both the AVR 95 ($698) and AVR 2700($398). The salesman told me they were the same unit. A call to Denon in NJ confirmed that these two models are completly identicle. Every circut, amp, power supply is the same.
