Recently "THOUGHT" I was upgrading when I purchased Parasound seperates to replace my HK AVR25II. Paid twice as much but didn't get nearly twice as good sound. Just goes to show you you can spend a lot of money on advertising hype and not realy get the return on your money. Of all of the receivers and power amps I've heard, owned and auditioned this one is the best. Five Stars. |

I bought the HK 25MKii about a year ago for $399 out of a mail order and I'm very happy with it. I have it hooked up to a set of NHT 2.5i's (the best speakers I have ever heared in there price bracket.) and NHT super one's for rears. It sounds great. If anyone has some info on how I could keep this unit and add dolby digital with another amp or decoder and about how much it would cost?? Thanks! e-mail me at gmercier@ade.com |

Strength:
For the price it can't be faulted with music and home theater
Weakness:
Balance seems to be slightly off when at 12 o'clock at soft volumes Has great appearance. Although it doesn't interface with Dolby Digital or DTS etc,.. quality in the purest sence doesn't become obsolete. As for the dude below who like all the FFFFFFFF's; he must have had a bad experience with either the vender or the company. The powers that are should "get it out of there" . It's just not a serious review but I guess it's an older product so who cares! Right? Similar Products Used: B&K avr202 |

Strength:
Main channel sound quality
Weakness:
Spring terminals for surround speakers My wife and I purchased this reciever used because our old Yamaha integrated went belly up and we came across the HK at Echo Audio in Portland (great used gear & wonderful people!). I knew that HK had a good reputation and the price was within our limited budget at the time and my wife liked the idea of a remote and home theater. To my surprise, when we hooked it up the sound quality was much better than our old Yamaha. We have Linn Kan II speakers that have very good resolution, and smoothnes and clarity were greatly increased. HT is only an nice extra for us; our main use is for 2 channel stereo. We love this reciever, and I never thought I would ever say that for any reciever (I love high-end integrated amps). This unit will do us for alot longer than I originally intended. |

Strength:
Beautiful design, ease of use, clean sound
Weakness:
Spring-clip terminals for rear surround speakers I purchased this unit from Soundcity for $450 in 1996. This receiver is very easy to use and pumps out a very clean sound with deep bass. I recently sold it and upgraded to a Yamaha RV-1105 with Dobly Digital and DTS decoding because I did not want to spend the big dollars to make the HK Dolby Digital compatible. Unlike the HK, the Yamaha is more complicated and not as easy to operate. In addition, it has spring-clip speaker terminals for the rear surround and center speakers. I had heard great reviews from fellow Yamaha-receiver owners. Obviously, they have never owned HK receivers before. Otherwise, they would not have recommended the Yamaha to me. I should have spend the extra $100 and purchased the HK AVR65 instead. Similar Products Used: Yamaha RV-1105 |

Strength:
just plain xcellent sound, especially in stereo mode. A warmer tone than Onkyo717 727, with better bass reproduction. Preouts on all channels. superb design.
Weakness:
No Dolby Digital, if you care. Overall DSP not as impressive as Onnkyo's. I've owned the MkII for four and a half years. It's most outstanding virute lies in the warmth and fidelity of its sound, especially in stereo. HK is not known for DSP; if that's a big deal, go with Onkyo or Yamaha. I use it with a pair of B&W CDM 2s. Sweet. Similar Products Used: Onkyo 717 and Onkyo 727 |

Strength:
Clean, powerful sound in an affordable package. Pre-in and outs.
Weakness:
No AC-3 or DTS digital modes. Unimpressive DSP modes. Spring-clip speaker terminals for rear channels. I have used this receiver as my primary home theater foundation for 2 years. Although Harmon Kardon has been known for inconsistent quality with other models, this unit has exceeded all of my expectations. The HK AVR25MKII has performed flawlessly and is musically neutral and clear. I will continue to use mine as a bedroom receiver when I upgrade to the Denon AVR-3300 with Dolby Digital and DTS. If you are looking for an inexpensive, great sounding receiver, this is the one for you. Similar Products Used: Denon AVR-3300 |
