Strength:

Sounds good, S-video, 24/96 dacs

Weakness:

reliablity

I agree with previous post, Doesn't matter how the thing sounds if it doesn't work. Frankly I don't know how HK can turn a profit considering the fail and return rate of these things. I used to sell these babies and this and its brothers (7000 seems to be more reliable) have like over a 20 percent chance of being returned. When they do work they offer a nice warm sound and a good value for the features included. Heck just walk into somewhere that sells them and see how many of these babies are open box. H/k should have done a recall a month into these things but I guess there is alot of pride against doing something like that.

Strength:

Clean sound, powerful, flexible configuration

Weakness:

Difficult to use

Wonderful sound, 5.1 features are good. I'm very pleased with my selection. I've heard some negative things about long-term quality, but my unit so far seems very sturdy. I guess I'll know for sure in the next couple months.

I almost wish that I had a bigger place just so I could really test this sucker!

Strength:

Sleek Design, features for your dollar

Weakness:

Reliability

Too bad! With hopes that this new unit would stand the rigors of my 20 year old HK unit and give the same sound quality- it gave up after 2 hours use. I wish I'd checked into this reviews section before I bought. I found the remote especially hard to understand, plus I didn't see the need for a step-graduated volume control. My original decision to purchase was based on features for price, I'll be digging a little deeper on my next one. I just don't think HK is the same quality as it once was. I've returned it and am now thinking Yamaha, plus a better qualified dealer.

Strength:

Good quality sound , Great features , DTS capability .

Weakness:

A little pricy for the average buyer but try it first , you will love it .

I found the unit to be more than what I had expected plus I have found that all the problems people are talking about does not exist on my unit . I had asked the retailer about problems and they told me that futurdhop alone sold thousands of these so there might be a small amount not satisfied but what about the other thousand or two.
I would buy another harmon kardon in a second .

Strength:

Clean 5.1 and DTS sound
Excellent layout

Weakness:

When will it die always on my mind

Originally purchased an AVR 55 to drive my Klipsch KLF 20s; after 3 months the unit died. HK upgraded me to the AVR 300 after 4 long months of waiting. Have seen all the bad reviews which indicates quality at HK is dismal. However, mine has lasted now for 8 months with no issues. I know; could go at any time. If so, no more HK for me. Anyway, the sound is spectacular! The 5.1 and DTS are clean and strong with good bass punch. Definitely better than my Pioneer and Sony receivers but quality is still a worry. Movies amaze everyone who listens. Music is clear and sweet. Should you buy one? Being in manufacturing for many years, all the reiews on this site indicate a design that is not robust. In other words, some work some don't. Gamble at the casino not when you buy electronics.
