Strength:

Power,Inputs,versatility.

Weakness:

Front panel very busy, EZ Set remote just OK for setting speaker levels.

This replaced an older HK ( AVR20) receiver, the difference in stepping to digital is phenomenal. This receiver has more than ample power and through the Klipsch sounds crystal clear. On screen display is a great feature. Harman/Kardon AVR-310 Panasonic DVD-A110 Denon DCM-280 Klipsch KG5.5 (Main) Klipsch KV-1 (center) Paradigm Micro (surrounds) Paradigm PS-1000 (Sub)

Strength:

movies sound great clean sound

Weakness:

Stereo sound can be bright

Another reviewer noted that this receiver can be bright and harsh. They were right to an extent. When listening in stereo, the imaging is good but the tonal balance is quite unpleasant, almost unlistenable. Many stereo recievers sound better that cost less. It may be a matter of associated equipment. I do not recommend listening to anything in stereo if your speakers have high tech titanium tweeters or are already a tad bright. However in dolby digital, DTS, or Logic 7 modes (read 5.1 not stereo), this reciever can sound quite good. Using speaker cables designed with twisted pairs and a fair amount of shielding seemed to help take some edge off also. People who like in your face bass should avoid this product. Other amps were capable of much a much better low octave sound in the same room/setup. The bass was there, but again the balance was unnatural with too much low bass. When listening in surround, the bass was very nice but subdued. This is good if you prefer vocals over booty bass. Altogether, if you prefer listening in stereo, want a very warm sound, or tend to emphasize the bass, then take a second listen. If you don't mind CDs in 5.1 and too much bass distracts, still take a second listen but chances are this will be a good bet for you.

Strength:

Versitle Pre-amp arangments, good power, very pleasing to the eye!

Weakness:

The only complaint I have, is that the sound is a tad too "digital". I think the sound could be a little more realistic, esp. from a company like Harman. To "warm" up the sound a lil, i use a good old Sansui QRX-3500 to drive the mains :o)

The HK AVR 310 is technological jungle of fun and great enjoyment, once you figure out the "EZ-set" remote! I use it mainly to drive the surround speakers, and as a preamp for the front speakers.

Strength:

plenty of power, easy to set up, lots of digital inputs, and i really like the look of it

Weakness:

i have lost all confidence in the build quality

I have not had any luck with HK's reliability. I first purchased an AVR310 about a year ago, and after having it set up for about three weeks, the sound decoding chip crashed. I sent the unit away for repair and when i got it back, it quit working that same day again. I finally got a new unit from the factory and it has worked fine for about a year, but now it is giving me problems again. Before I became so frustrated with all the quality concerns, I was very happy with this recievers performance. Movie soundtracks were vibrant and very dynamic, in both DD and DTS. I really liked that the avr 310 has so many digital inputs, and the audio/video inputs on the front panel came in very handy several times as my buddy brings his PS2 over once in a while, though i just wish that there was a cover for these inputs, to clean up the look a little, but that's a small complaint. I'm not bashing on HK, but I can't give this reciever a high rating because of all the problems i had. If you get one that works well, you will be very happy, but I can't say I'm a happy customer.

Strength:

very good and smooth sound; well buildt; more than enough power.

Weakness:

the rc could have a better layout.

After dissatisfying listening to several japanese receivers I found the Harman. Liked it at once, because it sounds quite similiar to my existing Linn stereo gear. I'm using this AVR just for the center, rear and subwoofer. The front speakers are still driven by my existing system. So I appreciated it very much that the Harman has a pre-out for each channel. I also liked the EZ-set funktion which makes balancing the whole system very easy. The rc looks a bit crowded but I got used to it and it's nice that it can learn commandos from other rc's too. My system: Speakers: front: aktive Linn Kaber center: Linn Trikan rear: Linn Katan Sub: Linn Sizmik Electronics: preamp: Linn Majik-I amps: 2 Linn LK-100 cd: Linn Mimik DVD: HK DVD-25 AVR: HK AVR 4000(eq 310)

Strength:

Delivers an unbelievable source of power for the price.

Weakness:

Looks pretty simple to use but can get a little complex.

The reason I puchased the Harmon Kardon AVR 310 was pain staking research. Just about everyday when I had some free time I would stop in some audio store and compare many different name brands. I could honestly say hands down this reciever out shined all the others in its price range. Unfortunately people are misled with the power ratings of different recievers. People see 55 watts (power of the avr320) they think it will not be enough power for their 120-150 watt speakers. well let me assure you this clean 55 watts is overkill for some speakers. The speakers I am using for this reciever is (Klipsch klf 10)150 watt towers and it pumps these bad boys with no problem. Keep two things in mind if you are going to purchase this reciever. Don''t be misled by the power ratings and YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR!!!

Strength:

Beautiful design, Clean power, Multiple digital in-out, Multiple Bass management settings, OSD, DSP''s you actually want to use, excellent remote

Weakness:

Can''t really think of any

Virtually everything has already been said in terms of compliments for the 310 so I will add very little. There is simply no substitute for quality. H/K''s 310, like all of their recent products, is a stellar performer. It amazes me how so much clean power flows from this receiver. I have always been a fan of H/K and have a 510 for my main system. Usually though, I tended to go after the higher power ratings within the brand, just for insurance. I have discovered with the 310, purchased for a second room system that this is simply unnecessary. The high current delivery is ample for even my main listening room. It can drive my 125 watt 6 Ohm Wharfedale Emerald 97 towers with ease. The power reserves of the 310 are of course no match for the 510 but there is a consistency of amplification which I find wholly gratifying. There is no strain in high levels, no overheating nor any overloading issues. I have not begun to approach the true measure of sound levels this receiver is capable of even in HT usage. I prefer instead to keep my hearing intact. In short, I fully expected the 510 to deliver this kind of performance. What I did not expect was to be able to give nearly as much approbation to it''s little brother, the 310. Now, I am a Harman Kardon fan for life.

Strength:

Everything is a strengh i love this harmon and will never go to another company. i deffenetly recommend this product. and the 320 has 5.1, and 6.1/7.1 if you bridge it to another amp with the pre outs.

Weakness:

there is no exit in the osd menu. my knees when i listen to the quality sound.

I purchased the Harmon because i blew up my Kenwood and the Jvc died. i has uncomfortable with the price until i plugged it in. I am god to all my friends now and have quality sound any time i want it. the 275 wpc of the AVR 320 was shady until it shook stuff off my walls.
