Strength:
Clear, solid sound. No noise at all.
Weakness:
The remote is kind of ugly, but who cares. I did not find this site until I had bought my AVR 45, and I am kind of glad I did not. The negative reviews are very discouraging. So far, I have not found any problem with my unit. I bought it from HK''s web site for $179 plus $30 shipping. I am very pleased with my purchase. The reciever does what it suppose to do. Beautiful, clear and amazing sound. I do not have any of problems mentioned by others yet, and I hope I will not. It seems that all those have problems bought their units from UBid.com, maybe there is something wrong with UBid. I am a causual listener, but I am very picky about sound quality. I hook my reciever to a pair of Bose 141 shelf speakers with Moster cables, and play CD with a Philips DVD player without a TV for my little bedroom. It is more than what I expected to get from a cheap system. It sounds much much better than most of Japanese systems. I highly recommend it to people who do not want to break the bank to get beautiful sound. Similar Products Used: none |

Strength:
this unit produces good, clean sound.
Weakness:
haven't found any yet! This unit is awesome. It produces excellant, clear sound while listening to music. I'm using Paradigm Phantom speakers and it sounds awesome. The remote is highly functional and easy to use. I can't wait to buy a 12inch subwoofer and connect it up. I also cannot wait to get a DVD player and hear the Dolby Digital! I reccomend this Amp to anybody! |

It looks real cool, It looks Powerfull and high quality,
Weakness:
None of the above..... For those of you who bought this for its original $699 retail price, my heart goes out to you...i bought it for $299 and feel it wasnt even worth that....You are paying for the Name...H/K ...This unit was under powered, lacked bass, and couldnt run my speakers without distortion..i have 11 year old polk SDA-CRS 2. speakers and thought maybe the speakers were shot and not able to handle todays units(i never used them before)My gut instinct told be to bring it back and get the YamahaRX-V595....WOW!!!!!!!!!!!what a difference..day and night...I might be a rookie in HT, but you dont need to be a pro to know what sounds good and what doesnt....I also heard H/K products are losing there reputation as high quality products..I will be fair in my rating though since i only kept this unit for 2 days..and couldnt really tweek with it(but then again should you really have to) Similar Products Used: Yamaha RX-V595, Kenwood |

Sound when working
Weakness:
In shop with intermitent problems for nearly 4 months See my earlier review from 3/14/99 (M. Hicks). I loved it when it was working but by July the sound was intermitently cutting off when in any surround mode. It got worse and was sent off for repair. Over a month later I got it back and it had the same problem. I am still in the process of trying to get a unit that works from HK (Jan 24, 2000). I am very disapointed. I have been a HK advocate for nearly 15 years but could not with a clear conscience recommend HK to any of my friends again. This is a poor product with obvious design flaws, and poor customer service as well. Something has seriously gone wrong at HK, as much as I hate to say it. If you get one that works you will love it, if you get one like I had then be prepared for being without a unit for a long time. Similar Products Used: Yamaha, Onkyo |

When it is not broken, it does well.
Weakness:
Problem is, its usually broken. I purchased the AVR45 after my AVR20 got fried. I thought it was just a fluke and trusted the reputation of HK. Well shortly after purchasing it, I started having problems with this one. As another reviewer said the sound would cut off intermittently. Took it in to get repaired. It worked for a while then started cutting off again. I also noticed lines on the screen when the receiver was in use. I use all heavy duty monster cables for the connections. I would not purchase another HK product. For those of you who are pleased, all I can say is that you are lucky the time has not yet gone off. Strength:
Very clear sound. Great price for dd. Front jacks are great. Easy set up. Good looking.
Weakness:
Remote isn't great for controlling the unit. Let's face it folks, for $300.00 or less, you CANNOT beat this DD receiver. If you want to spend $1000.00 or more. . fine, I am sure you can find a better one. But, if you are interested in clear crisp sound, then this is for you. I purchased this receiver as an upgrade from a non-prologic sony. It sounds great! Massive heat sinks can be seen through the vents in top. Is it the best receiver in the world? No. But at $400.oo from ubid($200.00 less than a local store wanted) it's a great value. |
