Strength:

Lots of power, great sound! Not an audiophile exactly, but have enjoyed many hours of music and movies form this unit. Drives a set of Phase Technology 4 ohm speakers without a sweat.

Weakness:

One downside: Lost its ability to save preset memory during even the slightest power outage, I mean if it only goes off a few seconds! Discovered problem just after warranty expired (of course!) and contacted Harmon Kardon customer service. Took it to an authorized service center and they couldn't fix the problem. HK said they could discount a replacement receiver a little, but I was disappointed overall. Luckily power doesn't hiccup that often, but when it does it's a PITA to reprogram everything!!

Strength:

Rich and warm musically. Excellent theater sound.

Weakness:

Remote could be better.

Amazing receiver. Excellent musically and for a home theater setup. I was forced to dump my last receiver, a Denon 2802 due to the overactive bladder of one of my pets. I took that opportunity to take a look at receivers again, rather than buying the same receiver. I am glad I did as this receiver has a much richer and warmer sound. I ended up purchasing a factor refurb and couldn't be happier. The remote quit working after a few months, however one quick call to Harmon Kardon and they immediately shipped out a replacement no questions asked and free of charge.

Strength:

Fully adjustible channels, crossovers, inputs, and outputs. Solid well built unit. Awesome case and display design. A work of art to look at

Weakness:

Not enough optical inputs

I upgraded from a Sony 915. I kept all the same speakers; Bose 701 fronts, 301 and 201 surrounds and Bose Center. Unbelievable the difference in sound and decoding. Absolutley love it. I added a Velodyne CHT12 this week, and love the LFE choices available

Strength:

Everything

Weakness:

None

I use this in my home theater with 3 external Halfer amps, great Pre-amp section and great DD decoding for movies. I have a Anthem tubed pre-amp for music and at times I switch to this for music with very little missing in terms of musical enjoyment, I use a Aragon 8008 amp and only notice a slight amount of air missing and a bit of SS sound vs. the sound of my tubes, but in turn I get more power in the bass region and great control over all still sounds smooth and very listenable.

Strength:

Nearly perfect for me.

Weakness:

Only 1 weakness I've noticed is the rear surrounds don't play loudly enough. I'm not sure if I never programmed the receiver correctly or what but it's really a 5.1 receiver. 7.1 is realized occasionally but overall, the sides and rear blend together much despite my tweaking of the levels.

An excellent value at $750 when I bought it around a year ago...now at $650 is a steal! Don't worry about 85watts rating...it's very, very capable. In fact, I have never taken it higher than 15 vol (goes to -10) as my drop ceiling starts vibrating too much! It's truly a joy to own and use - very simple. I did a TON of research prior to buying and used this site a lot...after a year of use, I'm very pleased. I set the speaker levels myself and use the Polk RM7600 package with an upgraded subwoofer and 2 extra surrounds (also Polk). People come over and just can not believe how clear, powerful, and precise the sound is for both movies and music. GET IT!

Strength:

It is a total package, very well executed.

Weakness:

None that I can see.

Within the 1st month it kicked into protect mode and wouldn’t come out. The RMA was as easy as it gets. (A+ to HK support) On-screen setup is intuitive. The remote is 4000 buttons in a pattern that I found easy to learn and is completely programmable to suit your needs. This is one beautiful piece of work to look at. It is reminiscent of the velvet face of the McIntosh. The sound is devastating. I run Klipsch KG4.2 with KG 3.2’s rear surrounds and KG 2.2’s for side surround. My center is a single KG2.2. One KSW-15 subwoofer rounds out the complement. The Klipsch are a wonderful fit for the HK, taking advantage of the tremendous depth of power offered by the unit. My single test is the beginning 6 minutes of Lord of the Rings. The “nuclear” explosion during the battle moves me at a molecular level. This receiver is THE package. The AVR-7200 must be a mind-blowing experience.

Strength:

see above Overall, a very nice receiver that will satisfy 90% of consumers. This receiver really shines in one area, user-friendleness. Everything from the manual, the remote, the on-screen menus and the EZset function is incredibly easy to use. As Home Theater has become very complex, this receiver is a throw back. It takes complicated options and setups and converts them to very simple. If your looking for it all, this isn't it. However, if you looking for a well built, great sounding reciever with a knack for making the complex uncomplicated, look no further than the HK 525.

Weakness:

*no dimmer button on remote or unit (must enter on screen menu to adjust) *no 12v trigger (used to power a seperate amp on/off) *no component video switching (must use tv remote to change to DVD input) *limited # of digital inputs for my needs(plenty for the average consumer)

PROS; *heavy (44lbs)..when buying receivers, but by the pound! *7 channel amps *great looks *large display (clear from 12') *remote feels good in hand and well laid out *remote has button to backlight every button for 7 seconds. *well written user manual (very important) *bass management for SACD and/or DVD-Audio *On screen display *easly menus for setup options *built-in microphone for speaker volume *3 options for multi-room (zone)audio *front input connectors can be set to output signals *clear sound on 2 channel music *very user-friendly receiver *auto volume (receiver always powers on with a volume user sets manually) *pre-outs for 8 channels *decodes everything to date; DD,DDEX,DTS-EX (discrete/matrix)Logic7 (3 modes),ProLogic II (3modes) and DTS NEO:6 (3 modes). Also has a great 5 channel stereo setting for sports. *comes w/smaller, second remote (programmed it for my wife and she loves it) *did I mention heavy? good indication of amp quality. equipment used w/ receiver: Revel Performa F30 (fronts) Polk RT15i (rear) Denon DVD 1000 NAD 218THX stereo amp Sony Laserdisc player Technics CD changer Audioquest Ruby Interconnects Home Depot speaker wire (12 gauge) Hitachi 50DX10B 50" RPTV (analog)

Strength:

Provides very powerful, high-current power. Looks very nice. Dual-Room. 7 Channel Amplification. Nice remote. FANTASTIC VALUE!

Weakness:

None!

This reciever was chosen due to my knowledge of Harman/Kardon making high-end recievers, and from all of the positive feedback from other H/K users. I wanted one that not only looked good, but provided very powerful and high-current power, with little distortion... something that would compliment my Klipsch Reference 3 surround system. And does it ever! The combination of the AVR525 and Klipsch Ref. speakers sound BEYOND belief. With the 525's huge power supply, and Klipsch's extremely high efficiency, I can drive them to beyond ear-piercing levels with ease and no distortion. The reciever has more that enough inputs and outputs to suit my needs, and probably the needs of the rest of my family too! I have not experienced using the Dual-Room feature yet, but I know that its there for future none the less. I love the remote, being universal means that I can program all of my components into it, and the best part, its fully back lit! It also has a built-in microphone that will automatically calibrate your speakers by reading the pink-noise the reciever produces, but I tend to use my Radio Shack SPL meter to double check. Lastly, its a 7.1 amplified reciever! If you are looking for a fantastic reciever with lots of high-current power, good looks, nice remote, plenty of ins/outs, 7 channel amplification, and all for less than a grand, look no further... then buy some Klipsch... and an SVS!
