Just picked one up at UBID.COM for $331 + Shipping!!! They autioned off 101 of them, and I was lucky to grab them, and some KLH surround speakers for only $48 + Shipping. I get the feeling the KLH are not great speakers, but since they are made by KLH, I figured they can't be that bad for under 50 bucks. I will sbumit a review of my AVR55 when I get it...I am sure it will be fine...I LOVE Onkyo receivers, but couldn't pass up this deal. If you don't like auctions, check out Netmarket.com, you can get it for $400.00 if you becomea member (which you can cancel after you receive the order and get your memeber ship money back). |

I'm upgrading from the AVR20mkII and purchased the AVR55. Listened to it at a friends home and it is incredible. Has inputs for all my needs including DVD.http://www.ubid.com |

www.audio-direct.com is selling the AVR55 for $316.95. (I don't own this receiver, but I did some quick price-checking and I think this is the best you'll do.) |

To John from Philly: that was a Denon AVR55, not HK and it was digital-ready. It didn't have ac-3 on board, but it seemed like a good price, tho. I'm waiting for my HK. Bought it from Onsale.com. I expect it will result in a wholesale upgrade in my listing experience since I currently run my Cambridge Soundworks speakers through my mother's old Sony receiver which puts out about 25W per channel. I expect this receiver will take me through till at least 2005. My rating is based strictly on anticipatory enthusiasm for what I expect will be audio Nirvana. |

This unit easily merits a 5-star rating, especially at the current prices, youwould have to be a fool to pay more than $400. I have tried the Denon AVR2700, |

Just got my AVR-55 from UBID...at first, was a bit worried, as one of the "feet" of the receiver had cracked off in shipment or in packing, but I took out my screwdriver and crazy glue and mended it together. I was worried, but once I connected the speakers, I was nicely surprised. For $365 fom UBID for a Digital Receiver I was extremely happy. Very nice sounding receiver. NO HISSING...not sure what a few of you are talking about. I am able to hear things that I wasnt able to hear before. My one complaint - the volume control must be turned about 50 times before I get to the volume I prefer. I am a firm beleiver of turning the sound down before turnign off teh rec'vr, so this will be annoying. But, man those nice highs and lows I am getting from my low end polks and crappy speaker wire....H/K has impressed me so far....can't wait till the summer, so I can open the windows and scare the heck out of my neigbors! |

Bought this DD-3 receiver from Soundcity for $399. Made in Korea got me worried for some time. But the construction is solid. The Harman Kardon's are not known for their looks. But the performance is superb. I have hooked it upto my Energy take 5's and this combination according to me makes the best entry level audio enthusiast system. The HK rec/remote ergonomics need more work. The other. nags are only 1 digital coax and 1 digital optical inputs. No S-Video output on board. The best DSP I have heard after the Yamaha. The price to performance is simply unbeatable. A 5 star of course. |
