I have had this amazing receiver for a qouple years now and I am still enjoying it very much. I have used HK receivers before and I consider myself a fan but I have had a Pioneer and a Denon as well and I can honestly say this is best little amp I have ever owned and I have owned a lot. There have been some critisism about not having enough features but they knew that before purchacing it, so why did they buy it in the first place. First of all I like the way it looks, second the three hdmi inputs is enough for me. Third I love what HK did in that they have Concentrated on the sound. It sounds so full and clean. The highs are clean not bright, the mids are perfect blending well with the highs and lows, the lows are deap and not boomy. Even my adult daughter heard a diference between the 700 and my old Denon. It has plenty of power to drive my DefTech towers. I have no desire to get seperates at this time as the sound and power is perfect for my needs. I really love the AVR700

Strength:

Rugget look

Weakness:

Not very well design, power consumption suck! and too heavy

I'm audio repair technician. I worked on all make and models of audio receivers. So far, I would not recommend to buy H/K product period. Some models works well but when unit had problem, it's very hard to repair. Their technical service literature look like scratch notes not many service technician can understand or can even read the prints. Their technical support engineer suck!!! most of them don't have any clue how their product works, and they could careless if the technician can fix it or not. Most of H/K product under warranty will stay in the shop for a long time compare to other manufacture. Unit don't have warranty will be estimated very high because most of the technicians are fed up with H/K bad design and support. As far as receiver and other audio video product, Sony is still the very best. Repair and support are excellent. If hard to fix problem Sony can alway alloe you to swap out whole new board or assembly. You can't beat that when come to repair your unit!!!

People unhappy with earlier less expensive models

I'm trying to get an honest review from someone who has actually purchased a unit.
Unfortunately, the site sometimes devolves into a much broader forum for personal venting not focused on the product.

To avoid this, perhaps a section which called for a company critique (or company customer service, quality control, etc.) could be established.

I think the glass front on the new HK is a great look....somewhat remindful of McIntosh glass front panels, which were (and to some extent still are) the finest in appearance and smoothest in performance.

I hope the HK sounds as fine as it looks.
I do wish it were priced at under 1K, however.
5 stars, just to neutralize the unwarranted 1 star rating.

Strength:

Style, controll, and performance. The high current and ultrawide bandwith make it unstoppable.

Weakness:

only 3 component video connections, AND the $1499 price

The best there is to offer. HDCD, Dolby Digital, DTS, High current, s-vid switching. EVERYTHING you need for home theater, and music!!! 5 stars *****

THE CRITICS

I just wanted to give the AVR7000 a five star review due to the fact that I never listened to this product.

I have owned the AVR80 for almost three years, I am extremely pleased with this receiver. The bass is low and tight, highs are crisp but subtle.

I have heard some reviews on the AVR7000, some say it's ugly, "Whats looks got to do with it?"

I dont care what others say, we are all obliged to our own opinion, 5 stars for HK and all those years of quality sound.

I wish Santa would bring me the AVR7000, I guess that will never be. The AVR7000 is just to heavy for him!

Merry xmas to all and HK.

HK AVR-45 and AVR-65.
Major bombs droped on the buying community by Harman Kardon.
So what do they do. Refuse to acknowledge the many problems these units gave the first buyers of these units.

What next...???????
Refuse these buyers a return of their money or even a decent fix for these problems.
A whole lotta people got the royal shaft from HK on these units..

So what does HK do next. What any major corporation trying to rip off us consumers would do.

Release a new line with less features and RAISE the prices.

Strength:

Harman Kardon quality as it should be

Weakness:

Finding one for less than a semester's tuition!

After hooking it all up to my Infinity speakers, I put The Matrix in my Sony DVD player. I've heard the soundtrack before through my cousin's system (Denon 3300/Snell speakers), and this is the first Digital receiver I've owned, but if my cousin hooked the AVR7000 up to his Snells, I wouldn't get it back! If anyone's looking for a great price on this receiver, try SoundCity (somewhere in New Jersey). I got mine for $1085 shipped to my front door.

After less than a week of being used, sparingly I might add, I have to send my AVR7000 back to the place I bought it from. While watching a DVD, if I pause or stop the disc, I get a slight "pop" out of my speakers. I experience the same thing if I'm watching TV through the VCR and I press the "MUTE" button on the AVR7000 remote. I know the problem lies in the receiver--I called HK and they even said so. I thought maybe I was getting some sort of digital noise or signal cutoff when I would stop my DVD player--not so. I got this unit on Thursday evening, hooked it up on Friday, it didn't get used all day Saturday and most of the day Sunday, then Monday evening this noise starts. Until then, I was very impressed with this receiver--I still am, but I am also a little discouraged now that I'll be without one until I am sent another.

This unit will be on the market 12/15/99. From some of the advertisements that I have read, this unit will more than make up for the last batch of faulty receiver's from H/K.
The AVR7000 has a totally new look, well at least 80% of the style has changed. I have the 25kII right now and I have no problems with this for the last 6 years. I plan to audition this receiver as soon as they hit my local dealer. I will give five stars for now, but I wiil repost after my audition. Hopefully, I will bring it home with me!!!!!!!! My local dealer will have these babies selling at $1195.
