Strength:

Incredible power, very versatile, most bang for your buck

Weakness:

needs a better remote, learnable.

I am incredibly happy with this astonishing new H/K receiver. I have not had as well built of a H/K receiver since the AVR30. I am currently using the AVR7000 with my Signature 2.1 amp and am baffled by the clearity of sound and power I get from these two. The AVR7000 is by far the choice when comparing receivers. I compared the AVR7000 against the Onkyo 777 and the H/K when put at its limits put out little to no distortion. The Onkyo 777 was pretty distorted and was not near as loud as the H/K. I have owned the full Signature series H/K system, along with the Onkyo 939, and the AVR30; and by far the AVR7000 is the best. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a great deal on a receiver, I mean it even has component video switching!

Strength:

Great sound; good looks; good remote;

Weakness:

None

This is my first AV receiver and it meets all of my expectations. First and foremost, the sound is terrific. Very warm, yet detailed. Good soundstage, never harsh. Good looking unit, with a minimum of buttons on the front, yet it workd and is intuitive. As promised in the literature, if you have an old CD player and old CDs, as I do, just run the optical through this unit and your CDs will sound like they have been renovated. The downside is that poor recordings stick out like a sore thumb.

I like the remote. It controls all of my equipment and is pretty straightforward.

I don't see the weight as a weakness. It comes with the "massive toroidal transformer" that creates all that liquid power.

Read a complaint about the brightness of the display. You can of course turn it down in the "advanced" setup menu, but I think its fine as is.

Minor question/concern. The submoofer output seemed weak when run into a Klipsch KSW 12. The Klipsch directions suggested using a Y adapter to make use of both inputs on the unit if desired. That seemed to bring it into line, at least for my purposes. Have read unanimously great reviews of the KSW 12, so I am doubtful that it is the guilty party.

The mult-room implementation seems to me to be much better than Denon; can't wait to try it - I need the "optional IR sensor".

Strength:

Hot looking clean power and easy to use

Weakness:

Price for what you get

I had Sony STR-av1010 Prologic receiver so I had to update an decided to go with HK 7000. The 7000 is a great AVR but my freind just got a Sony 777es so we compared the two. I was really shocked the sony sound really good and for the price I think that's what I will get when I get my money back. The Marantz is the better of them but for the price the Sony is the better buy.

Strength:

VERY clean, great features, plenty of ins and outs--both digital and analog.

Weakness:

Graphic user interface and remote are not as "slick" as those from some other manufacturers.

After a great deal of research and more than a few sleepless nights, I decided to order one of these without ever hearing one. I was a little nervous about that, but I've owned H/K products in the past and have never been let down by their sonic performance. This is no exception!

The sound is very clean, the amps are plenty powerful, and the 5.1 decoding are flawless.

As I mentioned above, the GUI and remote are not quite as user-friendly as others I have seen and used, but they are serviceable and issues like that have always taken a backseat to sonic performance for me.

Little things no one will ever talk about that I think are really cool include:

1. The fact that the multi-room can stay active even when the receiver is off.
2. The adjustable crossover (80, 90, 100 Hz)
3. The fact that you can have a different subwoofer output level for every input and every surround mode.

This is a VERY good receiver. If you're considering it, I recommend you put it at the top of a very short list.

Strength:

There is no question that this unit brings back memories of old HK products such as the AVR 30 and Signature amplifiers. Not only did I find this unit to have all the necessary features you would come to expect on a 1800.00 receiver, it sounds better than most. This is definately due to its high current amplifier and wide bandwidth design. Easy to set up and operate, even from the front panel (I've never been one for on screen operation) All this and striking good looks.

Weakness:

My back, be careful lifting this beast. Availability, but then again my dealer had 12 to start the week and now has 0 just 7 days later.

Months back it was reported that this unit was targeted at the Denon 5700 and DSPA-1 from Yamaha. I would say that HK was armed with a laser. A great sounding unit with enough power to calm even the most power hungry consumer.(even their low wattage units outperfom many of the 100 watt receivers out there. Dream on, it doesn't get any better than a 100 watts of HK power driving your speakers.) I really liked the layout of the receiver as they somehow managed to remove all of those uinwanted and often unused buttons from the front of the unit. Hats off to HK for realizing something that many of its competitors failed to address, CALIBRATION! Yes, Dolby digital and DTS are 5.1 formats but they have different calibration levels, and while many companies feel that the consumer will just plug and play at 1000.00+ for a receiver, I do not believe that those customers are numb to what is needed, not just what the marketing department feels is needed. Plenty of inputs and outputs for todays high end user...and LOGIC 7 form Lexicon. Congratulations on making good on your claim...EARS DO STARE!

Great sound power! WOW what power!

Weakness:

BIG -N- HEAVY price you pay for quality

This in one heck of a receiver. It´s funny to see some of the reviews below? Who do you think you are giving this receiver such bogus reviews? Gladfully I did not listen to some of the reviewers that gave this unit a poor rating. Listen to this receiver for yourself and listen to the pros that have rated this unit. Hopefully it will end up in your home. Great reciever Harman Kardon! You have really blown away the competition this time! If there ever was any competition?

All you who are still in doubt go listen and check this out.

Strength:

Loads of power! Superb surround... And for the first time a HT amp. that plays damd good stereo. Superb DTS, DD, and Logic 7 rocks!!

Weakness:

NONE (well the size, it's BIG, but with that power I can live with that!)

Well, my opinion is that if you chose a Japanese machine you get Japanese sound...
I skiped my Densen Beat B100 (a purist hifi amp.) to the H/K AVR7000. And let me tell you that is one of the best buy's I have ever done!
I was in couple of years looking for at HT amp that could take over the Densen. But untill now none could outperform the Densen in stereo-mode.
And the H/K got power... loads of power! I have tried some of those Japanese main-stream products around, and they fail in stereo mode, and the power in surround is if not bad, poor!
The AVR 7000 is a dream in surround mode DTS, DD reviels the micro details, I've never heard any thing as good as this...and Logic 7 rocks!!

Kevin: If you chose "large speakers" your speakers will get all the frekvency, also under 80 Hz. But your subwoofer will also get the lowest frekvens. So your speaker will at all times get the full frekvens!

This is a perfekt HT amp. also in stereo mode! Try it out...

Strength:

Awesome sound quality, ease of use.

Weakness:

Poor reliability

I purchased this receiver because I loved the sound quality when I listened to it at Circuit City. I found a good deal on it on the web, and I loved the sound when I got it home too.

Unfortunately, the right rear surround channel went out on it after 6 months and HK decided to refund me rather than repair or replace the unit. So, now I have no receiver and have to start all over again and get something comparable in sound quality. Any suggestions? Sony ES? Yamaha?

In summary, it is not a good deal if it doesn't hold up and work reliably. It is too bad, because the sound quality was phenomenal when it worked.
