Strength:
Good Build quality, Great sound
Weakness:
Harmon Kardon has discontinued manufacture of this product, so it may be hard to service. I've had this unit for over a year and it has performed flawlessly. The reviews I have read on this site concerning the reliability of the receiver have'nt been encountered. I use the unit in a basic 5.1 set up using jbl e60s for the front speakers and infinity beta 20s for the surrounds with a cheap klh for center. the sound is warm and accurate. My favorite mode is dolby PLII for music and DTS for music DVD. It runs warm after a couple of hours. Similar Products Used: HK DPR 2005 |

Strength:
The strengths of the AVR7300 include flexibility in setting up your viewing and listening environment. Although, there are so many choices, you need several days of experimentation to figure it out, it is worth the effort. The sound is clean and the video processing capability is superb.
Weakness:
The multi-room function is unreliable and HK apparently has not engineered it well. The multi-room function on my unit failed after the first six months, and the replacement unit provided by HK failed after 3 months. THis makes me question the reliabiity of their engineering and/or manufacturing of this unit. Most of this units may end up in the junk yard within the next few years, given the apparent reliability issue. I was quite impressed with the variety of audio and video capabilities and options which I anticipated would allow me to cusomize the unit to my listening and viewing environment. I was not disppointed. It required a lot of work, trial and error, and careful evaluation of the various options to "tune" the unit to my liking. That was the good part.
Customer Service Customer service is not the best. After shipping a replacement unit to me without a poer cord, HK customer service never responded to my emails. I had to go back to the dealer to buy another cord. HK technical support is very slow in responding to emails. Similar Products Used: Denon, JVC |

Strength:
flexibility clean sound crisp highs and solid bass
Weakness:
unable to use the composite out runs quite warm I have researched all of the high/mid range a/v receivers. I love the Yamaha and was ready to purchase the rvx2500 until I heard the Hk at a friend's home and love the clean sound. I saw a sale at Frys' and immediately drove to pick one up. I got the last box. I found the setup was quite easy. I wished there were an auto eq/setup function, but didn't have any toubles. The sound is quite clean and highs are quite clear and distinct. I tried various types of music and found it quite entertaining. I have read reports that the cooling fan as noisy, but I didn't even notice the fan. Similar Products Used: yamaha, kenwood, denon |

I was intimidated before I bought this receiver. I read reviews about it being difficult to set up and how difficult the remote is to use. I am certainly not an electronic whiz and was pleasantly surprised after getting my AVR7300. The set up took a while but was not too bad. The remote is a dream, very simple to use and I love the fact that audio settings can be changed very simply. The ez set is handy and although I have read many reviews that say it doesn't work I haven't had a problem. Just make sure the volume is quite high while it is being set. I love the sound quality and in fact I love everything about this receiver. |

Awesome power Awesome dynamic´s Clear and precise sound Huge soundstage Swing and muscicality Awesome pictures, using the componet out Logic 7 Firstclass surroundprocessing Firstclass stereosound, especially from analog sources Nearly unlimited setup option´s Bassmangement for all 7 channels Nice look´s Nice remote
Weakness:
audiable fan-noise,when used at low levels very complex setup, demanding to the user, not for beginners, use the dealer to help if needed. usermanuel quite complex to read and understand it would be nice if metal was used, instead of plastic for the front speakerconnecet´s could be more solid will need a very large shelve, is very heavy and large. the above does not give me any problems, but it could be a problem for some user´s, and therefore has to be mentioned This is one awesome amplifier when first run in, and set up properly. This is a demanding task,as i found out, there are so many option´s and choices to make for both video and audio, incl. first class bassmangement for all speakers, E-zet for speakerlevels, though i prefer to use my audioschack meter for this. I also like the option to set up every input independently. The AVR 7300 takes command of your speakers, developing awesome dynamic´s in all 7 channels, giving a nice swing to the sound = musicality, clearity, and a superb soundstage, there seems to be unlimited power avalible, and the limit is beyond, what is safe to the hearing. I am impressed with the sound from both surround and stereo, and the firstclass videoprocessing from the Faroudja DCDI FLi2300, both giving older dvd´s, like my Rotel DV1080, and many newer dvd´s new life.If you want better pictures, you will have to pay a lot of money to get the topmodel´s from Denon,Onkyo, Lexicon, etc. I also like the Logic 7 processing, its awesome with stereo and surroound from my tv and satbox. The stereo sound is also one off the strong point´s of the AVR 7300. especially when i feed it from my recordplayer, it displays stunning clearity and dynamics, not what you would expect from a surroundreciever. my conclusion for this a/v reciever, is that is a absolute best buy in terms of price and performance, if want better sound and vision , you will have to pay 4-5 times more for maybee a 5 % increase in performance. I like the remote, and especially the small extra remote, ask my wife, who likes the simple task of using it. I am absolutely happy with my AVR 7300, though quite complex and demanding to set up, and it will demand some prior knowledge from you, to get the most from the AVR 7300 Similar Products Used: yamaha AZ 1, Marantz 9200, Rotel rx1067, Denon A1 SR, Nad 793, Vincent 388 |

Strength:
Big Power and warm clean sound Faroudja video upconversion Features, Total adjustablily of both Video and Sound plenty of inputs
Weakness:
none so far for me. this unit is heavy, around 65 pounds and makes some heat. with the multitude of adjustments could be a little overwelming for some. Stunning! That is the first word that comes to mind when i think about the HK AVR7300. I purchased the 7300 to replace a 2 year old HK AVR630 mainly for the Faroudja upconversion feature. What I wasnt ready for was the tremendous increase in sound quality and power over the 630 which is already a fairly high end reciever. I auditioned this unit against the Rotel RSX1067 which is around the same price and also a very good unit but I kept coming back to the 7300 because of the sound and video quality and the adjustability. The Faroudja chip upconverts incoming 480i signal (Digital cable, Satelite, even VCR and camcorder) to 480P and sends everything to the TV via the component output. Its beautiful, now I have only one cable going to my TV. As some of the other reviews have mentioned there are a pile of adjustments, could be mind boggling for the newbie. It took me about a month of tweaking to get the standard definition satelite feed to look how I wanted. Once you dial it in the standard definition signal is almost as good as the High Def. Certainly much better than regular standard def TV. The HK AVR7300 passes High Def signals directly through to the TV with no processing. As good as the Vidio processing is the sound is where this unit really shines, power is awesome for an all in one unit. Rivals seperates for power and features. The 7300 powers my Definitive Technology speakers with ease. (BP10 fronts,CLR2000 center, BP6 surround and rear surrounds). "This thing has got a hemi" . When listening to CD,s it is very close to my Redgum RGi120ENR amp. Not quite as open and airy as the Redgum but for a reciever at this price its close. All in all this is one fine piece. You would have to spend considerably more money to improve on the performance of the 7300. If you are in the market for a HT reciever this should be one to check out. Strength:
Power, ultimate audio/video flexibility.
Weakness:
Remote I just upgraded my media room with some new gear. I just finished dialing in the new Harmon Kardon AVR7300. It is the most flexable piece of gear I have ever seen in one unit or even in seperate components. Power is strong and clean. I am powering a room full of B&W speakers. 640,800,and CD6's. B&W are hi-end power hungry speakers and the AVR7300 has more than enough to get the job done. Bass management is as good as it gets going to my 2 Velodyne F-18 subs. Each 7 speakers are individually adjusted for.. multiple crossover points,tone,size,delay,etc.. This is great for rooms with full size tower speakers because they can be ran full range and,or, crossed over to the sub at a number of crossover points. Each speaker can be crossed over individually so large and small speakers can be crossed over in any combination(very cool) 26 effects are also adjusted individually. Video prossesing is individually adjusted as well. The AVR7300 has too many features to list here. This is the amp you want for true pro custom media room. Harmon Kardon has is own sound no other brand of amp has. It is powerfull, accurate, and warm all rolled up. I am just scratching the surface on what this big boy can do. There is a learning curve for a piece of gear that is this flexable and full of features so it is NOT for the plug-n-play fan. But, for the High-end Audio junkies, it doesnt get any better than the AVR 7300. Similar Products Used: Denon |

DCDi by Faroudja®, image processing which upconverts all inputs to high-resolution component video. Plenty of digital in's & out's (all these are programmable), analog/video connections, . add a DAL150 ($20)and you can hear pure digital sound from your computer, to me better sound better then a good CD. Power (not watts) to spare, outstanding stereo & 5.1, 7.1 sound, + HK's High Instantaneous Current Capability (HCC) : ±75 Amps **Clean Power.
Weakness:
The remote, I agree with the others on this It's a nice remote but not the most user-friendly, no Phono (but I added a real nice audiophile preamp, it make my AR classic turntable sing. This is my first flagship receiver, unbelievable sound and power. I 've own amost every flavor of of HK receivers. I see & heard a lot of HK haters out there, here and at the local Hi-Fi Shops. They bash the AVR series of Harman Kardon, but I can't seem to get them to A/B these receiver with the ones they sell (hum). You know why they are scared! scared they will have to eat those words. I am so confident I would dare to A/B an old 20 watt HK high-current 70's receiver with any of their stuff. I was a big Pioneer fan back in the daz, then I switched to Kenwood (more current). When I got my first HK (AVR300) I was so amazed at the sound quality. I stayed dedicated till I could afford the big DADDY (Flagship) AVR7300, I always wanted the AVR8000 never could get enough moneys to get one. My system includes Paradigm Studio 40's v3, CC470 v3 and Polk Audio Surrounds. This a an outstanding combination, unbelievable sound. Next I will purchase the HK DVD31 & 4 Paradigm surrounds to complete this system. One ttime a friend of mine came by as we began to talk he pause said, man!, that system sounds good, what system is this? Friend I am the HK Fan ask me, all the HK series sounds good to me from the AVR230 up. I listen to the Denon AVR3805 it's a great piece but to me the HK's have as good or better sound and more features, see strengths for more info.
