The AVR75 paired with Polk Audio's RM 7-series satellite/sub system blows away the best sound produced in theaters. The system sounds simply awesome. Music sounds just as heavenly, although it takes some getting used to since it sounds so good. The output is truly very clean, crisp, and tight. I have to admit that the manual was pretty horrible and it took quite a bit of trial and error to figure out what I needed to hook up the system and how to connect everything. The remote could be better organized, but once you have programmed it with basic functions for all your components, it really does quite a remarkable job controlling your TV, VCR, DVD, CD and the Receiver itself.

Just purchased AVR 75 from OnSale Auction. Had been bidding for weeks on UBID where prices often topped 500$. At Onsale, no one was even bidding on them. Good for my I guess.
Can't say enough good things about receiver. Surprisingly bright sound from my NHT 2.5 speakers with this receiver, much more so than HK AVR10 it replaced. But no complaints, surround modes sound awesome. Listened to it in a variety of sound modes and the AC-3 5.1 is spectacular. Ended up rearranging my house to fit the receiver, realizing that I'd be using it a lot more.

Also of benefit is the variety of digital inputs including RF, coax and optical. I hooked up my otherwise mediocre Sony cd player to the DAC of the receiver through the Toslink and the step up in quality is striking.

Can the remote be any more obtuse? It is a learning remote, but unfortunately it takes too much time to learn how to make it learn, if that makes sense.

Buy the AVR 75 and the Marantz RCD2000 remote with the money you save and you'll be golden.

I purchased the AVR75 as a replacement to my 8 year old Sony that finally died. My other choice was the Yamaha 905. After talking to One Call they recommended the H/K way over the Yamaha, I decided to purchase. I've been listening to it close to a week now and I love it so. I must say that it sounded really strange when I first got it, kinda really soft. But the more I sat back and really listened over the day I realized that what I was hearing was an exceptional piece of audio equipment that produces a warm, clean, clear sound; which was foreign to my ears that thought Sony was considered hi-fi. Before I was only hearing noise, now I hear music.
Yes the remote is complex and the manual is made for someone who likes to study instructions, but I found both not to bad to pick up and learn. I recommend that any one considering purchasing this unit to measure their current entertainment center. The unit is so deep that the night I got it I spent an hour sawing out the back of the entertainment center to get it to fit.

I have had this receiver for one month now. I'm overall very satisfied with the unit except for a few weak spots: - the remote is ugly and non-ergonomic and needs to be pointed directly at the receiver for operation
- the difference in volume between stereo and Prologic modes is enormous, every time I switch from Prologic to stereo I have to run and turn down the volume on the receiver (forget the remote, the time to find the right button, point it at the receiver and wait for the volume to go down, all my neighbors just want to kill me, specially after midnight)
- no phono input (can be fixed using a phono preamp)

The sound quality is very good, even that I had to buy new front speakers (NHT VT2) to fully appreciate the nice stuff coming out of this baby.
Given the fact that this unit can be had for under $500, I give it a full 5 squeekers rating, even with those few annoying aspects.

I bought this receiver from One Call a few weeks ago paired with an Atlantic Technology 250.1 speaker system. I love this setup and could not be more pleased with my purchase. For about $500, this receiver just makes me grin. Home theatre has never been so good in my house and I find myself listening to CD's much more than I ever did before, that's what my car setup was for, not anymore! I love the tight, detailed sound and imaging, that this setup delivers. Yes there are some shortcomings, the remote and manual, but these are minor quips considering all you do get. For the money, I don't think you can beat this receiver.

I purchased this unit from onsale for $477.00 and have been mightly impressed. This is a step up from the Onkyo pro-logic unit that had been the brainchild fof my previous system. The sound of this unit is simply awesome, if you think you need more power then you must be listening in a barn. This thing will fill the room with a level of detail in AC-3 movies that will make you smile a knowing grin that it don't get much better that this. The manual is an exercise in patience, if you are willing to give it a few days the waiting will pay off in spades. I mastered the remote in about a week of trial and error. Folks it is worth the effort. This unit is a model of what the digital realm has to offer in terms of sound quality and involving the listener in movies. I use it strictly for home video an unhesitatingly recommend this spartan black box for that application. It will involve you in music and movies in a way that will keep you coming back for more. The only downside is the quality of the owners manual and the learning curve associated with the remote. The maual offers extremely truncated instructions, but if you have dabbled in this stuff before it begins to make sense fairly quickly. But then I'm not a genius like some of you so this may not be a downside of any consequence. Check this unit out, it will not disappoint you.

Strength:

almost everything

Weakness:

lamey remote, manual selection of digital source

i've been using this product since last summer. it's hooked up with take5 and rocks my little living room. it's definitely big bang for the buck.
there're enough raves about this product. so, let me bring up a couple of weaknesses. remote is far from ergonomic; every key is same sized and small. no backlit. learning memory is limited.
secondly, everytime i choose cd/dvd, i have to punch digital-source key. this is a pain in the neck. i just bought home theater master SL-9000 remote but this can't handle this problem nicely as far as i know.

Strength:

high current, quality, binding posts

Weakness:

lack of inputs or DTS does not count
(you knew this when you bought it!)

I have been using this reciever for over two years and could not be more satisfied and happy! Great sound very clean even in the rear channels. This reciever has an awesome amp. One of the few recievers in this price range with binding posts on all channels. The remote? Come on it came with the unit! It does the job for me and I don't think you can even find a good learning remote for under a 100 bucks. I dont miss DTS not a whole lot of dts dvd's out there and DD is going to be around for a long time.

I dont think the selling of refurbished units on Ubid is any indication of this products quality. I bet most of the refurbs are the result of returns because it won't fit into cheap entertainment centers.

Strength:

Sound Quality, Plenty of Power

Weakness:

No 6CH Input

I got this unit off UBid last year, and for about 9 months, it was great. DVDs sounded incredible, as well as music. But, as someone mentioned below, the surrounds quit working (one at a time, then all together), then the fronts/center quit working, at which time I took it to the repair shop. The technician had a hard time troubleshooting, but ordered some parts to see what he could do. That took one week. Two months later, he had still not received parts from HK. I had it by then, so I called up HK Customer Service, who, after some haggling, sent me out an AVR500.

Because I got this from UBID for about $470, I would say that it gets 4 stars for value.
Overall, the freaking thing broke, so 3 stars. It sure did sound great when it worked. Oh well, on to the AVR500.
