Strength:
Price, alot of digital hook-ups
Weakness:
Sound is terrible, under powered, remote is bad Firts off- if you use UBID- you'll get a great price, but also get ripped off on shipping. This receiver is a piece of crap! The "surround sound" is horrible. I have a 4 speaker set up and it barly drives the rear speakes. This is supposed to be 100 watts per channel. The sound doesn't even come up until you have the volume at 45 (out of 100)- JVC claims this is on purpose. It sounds more to me that the same people who designed the AMP that goes to "11" in Spinal Tap were responsible for this receiver too! Additionally, the sound settings are terrible. You can adjust bass and treble but nothing else and you can't hook up an equalizer into it. The "dsp" surround settings are limited and the garble the sound more than improve it. Additionally, if you want to use the receiver without the pre-sets, you can't get anything out of the rear speakers at all! So, the audio quality is terrible. The manual is long winded, contradictary and useless. The remote is a joke- as previously reported, there are more controls for JVC's other products (VCR< CD player, etc) then there are for the receiver! I am returning this unit- it's gotta be defective- JVC can't actually be releasing junk like this on purpose!? Similar Products Used: Denon, technics, sony |

Strength:
sounds crisp and clear at low levels, cheap
Weakness:
everything else My wife got this home theatre kit that came with the jvc powered sub. The remote does suck, not enought control and i have to hit it to get it to work. The manual sucks too. Powered sub starts to distort just as it''s starting to sound ok. It all sounds good at a comfortable movie watching level about 48. It would really suck with cd''s and radio. Hmmm what else. If you are dead broke poor buy on it will probably suit you, don''t have great expectations. The rear speakers hardly put out a whisper at 100 watts. My center works best of all. lol Dont pay over 150 buck Similar Products Used: Technics a/v reciever |

Great price for unit.
Weakness:
CENTER CHANNEL DISTORTION IS SO BAD ITS UNUSABLE. I bought this model because I have another JVC receiver in my house in the living room that is hooked up to the DVD and projection TV and all that good stuff... I believe the model number of that receiver is an 884 or 886 something like that - it was more money that this 6010... but the other JVC has performed flawlessly for 3 yrs now - and I really crank it up - and it never seems to care - always sounds great - never over-heats. Now, I unboxed the 6010 and put it in another room with a smaller tv (31") and a 5 speaker system (little cubes) and a powered subwoofer. This will be my alternate TV and video room - so I didn''t need anything "killer". When I got everything hooked up, the first thing I sampled was Judge Judy... she just happened to be on. I have the stereo output of the TV going into the TV Sound input of the receiver, the broadcast was in stereo - so I turned PRO LOGIC on. It was then I noticed that voices were coming out of the center speaker all distorted... like some other people had mentioned - it sounded like the cone of the speaker was ripped. I checked it out - couldn''t find anything wrong - so I swapped this speaker for another... same problem. So I replaced the speaker wire... same problem. I CANNOT RESOLVE NOR LIVE WITH THIS DISTORTION!!! I thought for sure I got a bad unit, but it seems other people are reporting the same thing. For this reason, I have to give the receiver a poor rating... even if it does everything else well... this is unacceptable. If anyone out there knows how I can fix this problem, please let me know. Thank you. |

Strength:
DolbyDigital and DTS support, as well as Pro-Logic and Digital in connections.
Weakness:
Almost no bass, Pro-Logic sound sounds garbles. DSP modes lack surround sound ability. Poor Subwoofer out. Lack of adjustments, lack of basic functions on remote control (Like changing the radio station!) At first I was pleased. Having a digital connection to my DVD player, it would auto-select DTS or Dolby. That was cool, and then I noticed a few things I didn’t like. First, when I was using Pro-Logic. The sound coming out of the center and rear channels sounded very garbled. The sound sounded kind of like what a tape would sound like after it got chewed up but still worked. I just figured I was doing something wrong and didn’t worry about it. Then I cranked up my music. There was almost no bass. It did the treble ok, but the bass output was very poor. I turned up the bass adjustment to +10 (The highest it would go), still very poor. I figured that maybe that was the trade-off of using a digital connection. I gave it the benefit of the doubt. I hooked up my Sub, figured that would take care of any lack of bass. I hooked up my Cerwin-Vega LW-12 to the subwoofer out. Almost no bass! I would have to crank the knob to full power before I would hear some bass. With my old receiver, turning up the sub to full power would have made my house explode. I hooked up my sub using the alternate method tapping into the 2 front channels. Still almost no bass! I decided to take a brake and check out the other features of the unit. The DSP modes didn’t produce sound out of all speakers, and there were no Radio frequency adjustments on the controller! You have to do almost every adjustment using the front panel of the receiver. The controller has more buttons for JVC’s “Unified Control” than it has for the receiver! The “Unified Control” is where they have VCR and TV controls on the remote so that when you buy other JVC (of course) products you can control them with one controller. I would have preferred they include controls for the RECIEVER on the RECIEVER remote instead of VCR and TV controls for units I don’t even have nor want to buy. Overall I was very disappointed. I hooked things up in a way that even if it wasn’t a powerful unit, should have compensated somewhat, and Still it disappointed me. Other people I have talked to have had the same problems. I’m sad that I have to inconvenience the guys at Circuit City with my return, but I feel that the product I got was not worth the amount that I paid nor did it live up to the claims it advertised. Strength:
For the price and features it's a good reciever for people just getting in to home theater.
Weakness:
No control over tone at all and JVC customer support is really poor. This is not totally a bad home theater package(Rx-6018vbk).But for people who like to be able to tweek sound better this is definitely not for them.First time buyers wanting to get their feet wet in the home theater realm will probably be satified.JVC customer support is not very helpful in answering some questions about this product. This is a very limiting reciever as far as what you can do with it.I was disappointed that you can not hook up an equalizer to tweek sound. The tone contols are VERY basic treble and bass.If you are a some what serious about home theater steer clear of this model. All in all I chalked the purchase of this reciever as a lesson in what I DON'T want in a home theater reciever.Advice to all new buyers in the home theater market do a lot of research to find a product that will suit your A/V home theater needs. Strength:
Dolby Digital and DTS for a super low price!!!
Weakness:
Remote control, spring clip connectors, lousy tuner. I bought the JVC RX-6018VBK and it all came together in a home theater box set. The reciever is great for the price. Dolby Digital and DTS is a hard find for the price. The sound is crisp and clear with very little distortion. This is not a unit that would suit the audiophile of the family, but it sounds great for the casual to frequent listener. The remote is hard and confusing to operate, as well as setting up all of the DSP's on the reciever when first turned on, but the manual does a pretty good job explaning the task at hand. I would recommend this unit to anyone just starting out in home theater and/or wants to upgrade to Dolby Digital/DTS. Similar Products Used: None |

has power, dts is a nice feature. remote is nice, overall a nice reciever
Weakness:
no manual tunning on remote, only done by presets, no outlets on back of unit, no sat. input. I bought this off ebay, well, i bought the JVC RX-6000 and got this, the guy took 3 weeks to send it, and sent me the wrong one, this is a lower model to the RX-6000, well, i set it up, and figured i will do a rewivew. Strength:
Seems to be able to handle high volumes without heating up.
Weakness:
Center channel distortion This isn't bad for it's price range but I cannot get away from Center Channel distortion. The dialogue from any movie sounds like the speaker is broken. I've tried different speaker, wire, settings etc. It evidently has a bad center amp. Not sure I'll bother trying to take it in. I've read some posts that you'll get it back the same way. I would appreciate any other things to try in order to correct the center problem. I can't think of any more. |
