Strength:
Price and sound.. the dynamic super A amp is really special, very clean and crisp.. this unit has NEVER had a problem during 7 years of wonderful service..Graphic E.Q. ( 7 band), Cool display tells you all your settings for the mode you are in.
Weakness:
Surround on rear speakers a little weak...Lose power you have to reprogam all your stations and settings BOO! This was a major step up for me 7 years ago..I went from a JVC amp and seperate reciever with a surround unit I paid $200 for..(remember those things??)..I sold those three pieces and bought this baby....Now it's time for a switch..I'm going with the JVC 8000 and I hope that unit will serve me well also... Guess I nedd A DVD......Late Similar Products Used: jvc older surround not pro logic |

This is great reciever for the money. I have found no real problems with it other then the lack of AC3. This produces great sound with little distortion. Has great features and more power then most people will ever need. |

Strength:
Excellent sound w/many controls like pre-programmed and user programmable EQ, Great step up from my old rx-505 surround. Plenty of power.
Weakness:
Have detected channel crossing in Pro-Logic mode in one movie, but may just be the movie or my vcr head needs cleaning. 1993 model top of the line JVC reciever. Acquired from a trade. Very happy with unit so far. Please E-mail me if you've had similar Cross-Channeling (Momentary loss of channel separation with Noise reduction loss evident by speaker hiss)with any reciever or movie. If this is a movie recording problem, Then this RX-709vtn deserves a 5 Star! |

Strength:
Output power through the front channels (100W per) 2-channel mode. Low distortion (.007% THD). 7-Band graphic equalizer lets you fine tune sound to your liking. Remote is easy to use and if you have other JVC components it can link to them using their Compu Link system. Music on CD sounds very good with efficient speakers.
Weakness:
Volume level steps are too far apart for highly efficient speakers (i.e. at my normal TV listening volume, one step is too soft and the next is too loud). Center and rear channels power output differ from the fronts and are too low for good home theater systems (65W center, 20W rear). No bass and treble controls. Must use the equalizer to adjust the bass and treble. This receiver is over five years old, but I felt that it was a good value at the time. I purchased it new in the beginning of 1994 from the Price Club for $319.99. At the time, this was a good price for a Dolby Pro Logic receiver with the features that this one had. |
