What a terrific receiver for the price! I bought this unit 3 days ago from Centre Hi-Fi to replace my Pioneer Pro-Logic receiver. What incredible sound this thing generates! 5X100W, hooked up with my Kenwood DVD player DV-303, and a Sound Dynamics subwoofer. Very pleased with it. I chose this model because of good reviews I have seen on this site, as well as a friend of mine in Calagry bought it as well. I didn't really care that it did not have DTS ability since most DVD's now don't have DTS anyway. I listened to both DD and DTS and don't really hear too much difference, and to spend another $200+ dollars just to get DTS ability wasn't worth it for me. Remote control is kind of cumbersome, but I was never really that concerned about using multiple remotes anyway, but it can be programmed to handle everything (TV, VCR, CD player, and DVD). All in all, good power, good sound, awesome price, and highly recommended.

Strength:

Cost, Remote (If you spend the time to learn it)

Weakness:

Bass, no pre outs for front speakers

Had this product for roughly one year. Purchased it since my Pro-Logic receiver died. Wanted a replacement and was surprised to be able to get DD this cheap. Have been very happy with it. I know there are better products out there now and will be getting a Denon 3300 in the near future.

Great Value, Dolby Digital, setup

remote, bass

The best value in Dolby Digital receivers. I bought this when I got my DVD player and haven't regretted it. The dolby digital sound is incredible, especially for the price. A great low priced dolby digital receiver.

The Kenwood VR 209 is a great entry level dolby digital receiver. The sound is very clean across all channels and seems to drive all speakers effortlessly. I got mine for $285 with a price guarantee reduction from Fry's Electronics. A couple of down items: the remote is difficult to use and counter-intuitive; the volume control reads out in negative decibals so the closer you get to zero the louder the sound; some of the speaker displays are confusing and the pamphlet that comes with the unit is prroly written. Given these drawbacks I am enjoying this unit and would buy one again.

I just bought the VR-209 and was blown away by the dolby digital. I don't think it can get any better at any priceI have it hooked to a pair of B&W 302's for the the front, a HK center channel speaker, small yamaha's for the
surrounds and a MTX sub. The helicopter scene in the Peace Keepers sounds fantastic!!! I think the remote is
tought to figure out. I would recommend this to anybody. I paid $299.00 for it at Ciruit City on 2/7/99.

I've had the VR209 for about two weeks, like an earlier reviewer it was the result of getting DVD and wanting to experience the whole surround/digital dolby sound capability. I'm very pleased. The price (299 @ circuit city) was great and they're still one sale this week at that price. Hurry up!

I just Bought a Kenwood VR-209 2 weeks ago for 299.99. I must say that it sounds great. I was on a tight spending limit and I saw alot of good reviews for the Model so I thought I would buy it since I am just starting in Dolboy Digital. I also bought 4 tower speakers SB-T200. All I can say its great and anyone on a tight spending limit buy it because it has the most bang for the buck.

I have owned the VR-209 since December of 1998. I have loved it from the moment that I first set it up. For the price, I would say that this is the best receiver with the most features. I have used it for 2-channel listening as well as full home theater, using Infinity Studio Monitor series speakers and a Yamaha sub. I have only found two slight (and I mean very slight for the price of the receiver), 1. No DTS and 2. Programming the remote for multiple devices can be a pain. But, I like the receiver so much, that I have just ordered the VR-3080 in order to get the DTS features. DTS doesn't mean much on DVD to me, but I have some DTS laserdiscs that I have recently purchased that I would love to hear. I hope to post a review soon on the VR-3080.

When shopping for a replacement for my Kenwood Pro-Logic reciever, I was expecting to spend at least $1000.00 on a Dolby Digital reciever, until I met my VR-209! :-) I bought mine at a local Circut City for $375 in March, 99. What a great unexpected $aving$. Which enabled me to purchase new JBL HLS610, which will soon be my rears; and a Velodyne CT100 for the LFE. WOW!Watching DVD, RCA-5201P, connected to the VR-209 was a theater experience at home that have convinced me to increase my DVD library, currently at 40 titles and growing. If you want to upgrage from Pro-Logic to Dolby Digital, the VR-209 is your best buy!
