Strength:

adequate inputs and outputs, front inputs

Weakness:

pathetic remote, does not retain all programing after power outage, does not retain programing, not predictable

Have not yet experienced automatic detection of sound mode but lots of other things happen without rhyme or reason. Have counted up to 26 clicks on remote to access simple function. Sometimes takes 5-6 clicks to move one function. I have programed and reprogramed same outputs too many times to accurately remember and they remain intermittent.
Most of the time the sound is worse than the old Pioneer I replaced but every once in a while it is really, really good. I just can not predict when or cause it to automatically repeat. I would regret purchasing it at any price and will probably put my 8 year old Pioneer back in the system.

Strength:

looks great on thestereo rack, nice features, good concepts, easy setup

Weakness:

REMOTE, REMOTE, REMOTE. Sound quality is less than great

Both of my roommates bought a reciever. One bought the Onkyo 575 and that's what we had setup. Then my other roommate bought a Kenwood 2080. So we hooked it up. I must admit our system speakers are pretty random: AR fronts, Boston rears and sub, and Polk center. The system actually sounds pretty good. Then we hooked up the Kenwood. This thing is a piece. The sound quality is far below the Onkyo. The remote alone should keep you from buying this reciever. We had it hooked up for three weeks and compared DTS Saving Private Ryan and The Matrix. The DTS, especially the on the Kennwood had a quality that we call the "Sexual Harassment Panada" sound.(It's from Southpark, check it out). Basically it sounds like sounds like someone is cupping their hand over their mouth when they speak. We use the Toshiba 2109 DVD and that thing is great, but we wish it played CD-Rs. Overall STAY AWAY FROM THIS RECIEVER. There are several comunicable diseases that I would rather have than ever use that remote again. Needless to say that thing is gone. I give it 2 because it does have sound.

Strength:

Good overall system

Weakness:

Fuses ahoy! Remote doesn't keep settings.
Still waiting for the "Downloading feature."

This is a great unit, Until it dies on you. When you get it fixed it is again a great model, until it blows out on you again. I think it learns it's lesson after that, because I've had no problems for over a year. Works good at all ranges, even below 10.
Although I must say I bought a returned model from Crutchfield, for a discount. So when the fuse blew the first time, I returned it and got a brand new boxed unit. Maybe it wasn't such a pain! Then That one Blew months later, and crutchfield sent me a brand new one again...classic. Needless to say, Crutchfield stopped sending me catalogs for the first time in 8 years.
Way better than any Sony model where I had to interrupt the movie I'm watching to turn on the on-screen display to turn up the bass one notch.
