Strength:
Never had a problem, good learning universal remote. SACD seems to work fine.
Weakness:
No sub frequency adjustment, peak overloading on some cd's when in analog. I have owned the Marantz for about 4 years now and have never had a problem. The learning remote is a bit cumbersome both physically and mechanically but it works great. Having purchased a Hsu subwoofer (great product) I realized that one limitation of the Marantz is its non adjustable crossover if plugged into the sub-out, which means that you have to use the sub out of the pre-out for the front speakers--I wish I had known this a long time ago! This also allows you to have your sub activated in the direct mode which it did not do when the sub was plugged into the sub-out. Another potential pain is that the "peak" indicator light comes on (and off) with certain cd's that are recorded "hotter" than others I suppose. This may not be a problem with other cd players, but it was with mine, which means that at times I would have to switch from analog to digital out in order to get rid of the peak indicator which cause some unwanted (overload) noise. As far as the Marantz' sound I need to say that I found myself wanting more (so what else is new) and eventually purchased a used VAC Avatar which hooks up to the L/R pre-out and allows me to power the front speakers with the VAC and I still can use the Marantz remote. I love the sound of the tubed Avatar so one thing I want to warn about is if the audio bug hits, you may want to get an additional amp for the fronts. I am glad I did not upgrade the whole surround receiver with another receiver because the trade off in sound quality would not have been as effective. Overall the Marantz has been a good product with the exception of what I have mentioned. Similar Products Used: none, I usually stick with what I've got. |

Strength:
plenty of clean, crisp power. Learning remote. Nice design. Also plenty of hookups for RCA, S-Video, and Fiber.
Weakness:
Unusually oversized surround knob, especially for the limited surround modes. Tight quarters when hooking up speakers. When I first purchased the Sr-8000 I was a little stumped on how to get it up and running. But, after a little bit of time spent reading the manual a few times, and a call to Marantz America, I finally got it to "make noise". From that moment it was just clear sailing and big warm smiles. I feel like I got a great deal on this reciever, so I can give it 5 stars with ease. Similar Products Used: Onkyo, Denon, Pioneer Elite |

This is a review on the SR8200 - can''t find a listing specifically for it. I have had the Marantz SR8200 for about a month now, and I think it is a great receiver - awesome sound! My only negative comment concerns the RC3200 "Learning" remote control. Marantz or whoever actually makes it did a piss-poor job on it. It has a significant learning disability (can''t learn Lutron Dimmer remotes, some Panasonic buttons), and is not packaged with a library of IR codes or a piece of software to enter codes in manually. Also, the non-touch screen buttons, or "hard buttons" are just that - hard - not so good on the thumb if you surf a lot. If getting a good universal remote with your receiver is a factor for you (or paying for a sh**ty one and having to live with it or buy another bothers you) you may want to look elsewhere. |

Strength:
Incredible sound quality, excellent on-screen menu system. Nice remote.
Weakness:
Cheap binding posts. I''ve had my SR8000 for nearly 3 months now. It''s my first HT reciever and I''m quite impressed with it. (I''m using it in combination with the Atlantic Technology T70 surround system) Sound quality is top notch, I''ve yet to notice any defects or problems.. no popping when switching between channels, no problems in DD5.1 or DTS modes. The 5 channel stereo is simply fantastic, as well. I''ve noticed that the power output in DD5.1 does seem to be a bit lower than other modes, but this seems to be more of an issue with DD5.1 across the board than a problem with this particular reciever. S-video switching is crystal clear, as near as I can tell. Hooking the system up was a snap and configuration via the on-screen setup was a breeze. The binding posts on the rear of the unit did seem a bit cheap to me, but this isn''t really an issue once everything is connected. The remote is a beast and works excellently, the programming and macro options are really something! |

Strength:
Excellent Fit and Finish, Clean and Simple Interface, Incredible Remote!
Weakness:
No A/B Speaker Switching or Component Video, Not the easiest speaker terminals to use with bare wire. I started looking for a new receiver after setting up my new SONY DVD player. I initially looked at the SONY ES line as the majority of my other components were SONY. I quickly narrowed in on the Marantz and Denon lines. For me the Denon was a very stong contender! The salesman even had the AVR3300 so he could point out a number of the key features. However, the Marantz was much cleaner at all volume levels. No background noise, and crystal clear at all volume levels. The remote is incredible! Some say it is hard to program, but I didn't see it? I've replace all of my remotes with the Marantz and couldn't be happier. Similar Products Used: Denon AVR3300, Sony ES |

Strength:
Everything, Especially the remote!
Weakness:
Lack of A/B swith and Component video switching This Unit Rocks! Build quality is exceptional, sonic performance is right on, more than enough power to go around. The remote took awhile to figure out, but once I got it down I've never needed aother remote. Similar Products Used: Denon 3300, Yamaha RX-V1 |

Strength:
quality, awsome 2 channel remote
Weakness:
none as yet, manual - I spent 3 months listening to different amps and the sr8000 in the end came out on top. This unit produces excellent quality sound with 2 channel, better than most seperate systems. For those who are going through the painful task of serching for the best, save time and go listen to the sr8000 you wont be disapointed. Dont wast money on the sr19,(next model up) 8000 just as good and cheeper.Australian buyers, 2900 retail, I paid about 2000. Similar Products Used: denon 3801 , hk 7000 |
