This is a great receiver but... I purchased the SR-7000 and found out that the remote doesn't have a light (long story)... so I took it back and got the SR-8000 with the nicer remote.

The directions for the remote that comes with the SR-7000 and the directions for the remote that comes with the SR-8000 are identical. I am unable to get the remote that came with the SR-8000 to "learn" any commands from any of my other remotes. Any suggestions?

Also, I was looking on the back of the receiver and the model number is SR-8000/U1B. Does anyone else's model number match that? I am going to be REALLY pissed if this is one of those B-stock items. Here is the definition of a B-stock item that I got off of another site:

Definition Of "B-Stock" = Cosmetic Blems, Factory Overruns, Last Year's Model, Returns, Factory Reconditioned, Electronically Perfect.

Please email me with serial number info and remote assistance.

Thanks,

- Wil Bloodworth

Strength:

Solid unit, many inputs. Easy to operate (my 6 year old handles this fine).

Weakness:

only signal for multi source, needs a separate amp. Tone control does not have much range, may want to invest in an equalizer. maybe a little expensive compared to competitors, maybe remote justifies this.

I just wanted to tell Mathew that there is a solution for the "peak" problem when playing CD's using analog input. I also had the problem and discovered that if you set on the "ATT" or attinuate feature, this will go away. The only things that I am dissapointed in is that you need a separate integrated amp for multi-room multi-source use. The other seems to be a lack of range for bass and treble settings. I would prefer to be able to extend this beyond my preferences to know that I can adjust for my tastes. I simply do not hear the change in tone as dramatically as I would expect. Otherwise, this is a fine choice. PS another reviewer did not know the reason for the copper chasis. The reason for this is not directly for sound but to restrict RF interference. This is large problem in my area because there are transmission towers nearby and I believe it does help.
