Strength:

Superb Sound

Weakness:

Erratic behaving Surround Decoder; Unit is being replaced after only one year by better designed T761, which addresses all of the problems pointed out by myself and others in this forum, costs $100 less, and adds 20 more watts per channel of NAD power, proof that this company listens and responds.

Mark continues to lash out at my opinions, which after all is said and done, are at least honest ones based on my experience with this product. Mark, I suggest you offer reasons why you think the T760 is so worthy of the stars you give it rather than behave like a spoiled child ranting and raving about the opinions of me and others who don't agree with you. That is what this forum is all about,
Do you even own this receiver? My 2 star rating is based on its use as a Home Theater Receiver only, which is what most people like myself bought it for, but I agree with you and others that if I were rating the T760 as an AUDIO ONLY receiver it is definitely worth 5 stars which I am going to give it in this review with my reservations about the T760's suitibility as a Home theater component still intact. It's a moot point anyway since I intend to dump the T760 for the new T761 as soon as I can get one and I am impressed that NAD has responded to myself and others who did have concerns about the T760. That kind of customer service alone is worth 5 stars. Satisfied!

Strength:

Good build qualty, price, HiFi qualty stereo sound

Weakness:

Tuner is the worst tuner I have ever heard.

I can’t understand, how much is a good tuner stage. Apr. 10 dollars. Please add to the receiver price. And why companies doesn’t give importance tuner which embedded on receivers. So I decided to use my old ordenery and cheap (Nakamichi ST-3s) tuner. Because if you listen both of them at the same time you can easly notice the huge difference.
On the other site, if you look to the T760 as a AV amplifier it is very very good component. Stereo sound is detailed, colorfull, rich and good for all kind of music.
Dvd sound is smooth and good. Not disturbing like some of movie saloons and some sharp AV systems. May be young people prefer other type artificial digital sound like PC games.
But if you like HiFi music and sometimes, if you want to watching DVD it is perfect choise.
I decrease 2 star bacause of tuner.

My system is affordable priced and match to my old components.

Strength:

NAD Quality

Weakness:

An unmitigated disaster of a Surround Decoder.

All the Audiophile quality performance in the world cannot make up for what remains an ill conceived product, which even NAD itself is admitting by replacing the T760 with
the T761 shortly, making the T760 the shortest model run of any NAD product in quite a long time.

Perhape ADJUSTER can forgive this receiver because of its high quality sound, which I admitted in my previous review was excellent. But I judge a product by whether it performs all of the functions for which I purchased it. In my case the T760 did not. I have an admittedly curious habit of liking to hear music CDs and motion pictures from the beginning. Perhaps ADJUSTER is such a casual listener that he does not mind having several seconds of music or dialogue clipped off everything he listens to while the T760 is making up its mind what surround mode it is going to use. Perhaps MANNY can tolerate a component that cuts off the first few seconds of all music and video programs.
I only pointed out that the unit exhibits this abnomality every time it is denied a signal, either from the beginning, which is my main gripe, or anytime the unit is paused. The sound even cuts off during a DVD movie when you hit play to begin a movie from the menu and searches again for the Dolby Digital signal you presume it has already found and repeats the search with sound cut off between the studio logo and the beginning of the movie.
This might be considered behaviour not worthy of complaint if it wasn't a NAD product, a company that supposedly puts music first.

It is not stupidity to bring to the attention of others in this forum an excellent sounding but poorly conceived product. I have tried about twenty audio video receivers and processors, including NAD's own T770 and none of them clip off any portion of the program while auto detecting the surround mode. The fact that NAD realises this is evident in their quick replacement of the T760 with the new T761. No sensible person would want a product that does not let you hear all of the music program regardless of how good it sounds. That is why I gave the T760 2 stars; how a unit adds or in the case of the T760, subtracts from your musical enjoyment, is a big portion of your satisfaction with its performance. Incidently, I have not given up on NAD. From what I hear the T761 is a killer product and
supposedly it uses the decoding chip of the T770 and also allows you to use the subwoofer in 2 channel mode, another annoying characteristic of the T760 corrected. i fully intend to give this unit serious consideration as a replacement for the T760.

For all those who want just excellent home-theater and (!)
stereo sound this one is the way to go.
For those who have this "hum-problem": it exists on some
models - there are some cables which must be lead diferent
inside the receiver. Feel free to Email me for further information.

Strength:

Excellent audio quality and the tuner is great.

Weakness:

None

The NAD is an outstanding product - the sound is superb. The tuner is really excellent sounding and now I am able to receive stations that I could not with my dedicated Yamaha tuner (T-80). All this without an external antenna!

More impressive is the proprietary EARS mode - which I use exclusively when watching Video CDs, VHS tapes and TV programmes. It sounds so much better than traditional Dolby Pro-Logic. Haven't tried out Dolby Digital and DTS as yet.

All in all, worth every penny spent

Strength:

excellent sound, easy to use, pre-amp outs

Weakness:

can't shut off on screen display, mute, remote, made in china

I am very pleased with this reciever. I can't comment on the power output because I have it hooked up to an Adcom 555 and a 5503 amp. It's a shame because NAD is known for under-rating their power but after shopping around for a DD preamp it became apparent that this was the best deal for me. I am not one for gimicks or paying for extras that I don't use and this unit is free of that. As far as problems go.... I can't find a way to get around the on-screen display with out loosing an input such as the VCR. The remote isn't a learning remote, and the mute button should be programmed to lower the volume some, not shut it off completely. Also the surround modes should stay programmed for the different inputs. These are petty complaints. If the unit's quality continues holds up to what I expect from NAD I will continue to recommend it to everyone.
