Simply providing a rating that is in tune with the performance and overall opinion of this receiver. In other words, adjusting the ratings to counteract the anti-intelligence of people like Henri. Henri, that is the stupidest review I have yet read on this site. 2 stars for what you yourself describe as "sound quality of true audiophile quality on both music and movies" because of a few second delay in signal detection?! Give us a break...

Strength:

Excellent sound, build quality, simplicity, it's a NAD

Weakness:

Sub out not active in stereo mode

Overall, there is little to find fault with. The problem with the sub can be overcome, but requires adiitional connections and different volume settings. Stereo responce is excellent and EARS produces a realistic surround effect. DD and DTS sounds great.

Can't use the subwoofer in stero mode,

I had a 15 year old Denon receiver. Top of the line and before Dolby Surround became all the rage. I've wanted a Home Theater receiver but I always felt that I would have to spend a lot of money to get a product that wouldn't sound as good as the Denon. I liked other NAD products so I got the T760. I have been very happy with it. I have Magnepan SMGa's which need a good deal of power and this receiver does the trick in my smallish apartment. I bought a Velodyne CT80 subwoofer mainly for home theater but also because the Maggies are lacking in the low end thump on some music (especially compared to my last speakers, Klipsch KG4's). I was disappointed to discover that the subwoofer doesn't work in stereo mode. I have talked to a lot of people and NAD retailers about this problem and they don't have any solutions. I now have a speaker cable running from one of the front channels (if you use banana plugs you can fit a small wire into the terminal at the same time) to the subwoofer and it seems to do the trick. If anyone has a better idea I'd like to hear it because I don't like the Velodyne and want to get the Sunfire Subwoofer Jr. so if I have a good subwoofer I want the optimal set up.

I am looking to buy Magnepan 1.6qr's and move the smaller Maggies to the rear. I was told that the NAD can drive the larger Maggies but just barely. For my system, at this point the NAD is perfect. It does everything I want. It sounds better than the old Dennon and it is very simple. I have had nothing but good things to say about NAD and aside from the stupid subwoofer thing it is almost perfectly designed. I would recommend it whole heartedly. It would be a damn good piece of equipment for its retail price and it was a bargain for what I paid through ebay. I give it 4 stars on the overall rating because the subwoofer in stereo mode is a big deal if you own magenpans and probably also if you buy a satelite system where you have puny front speakers. If your front speakers do the trick then it should not be a consideration and I would give it 5 stars.

Strength:

Very good sound for the cost, Nice simple design

Weakness:

It is now in the shop for the second time because the center channel keeps going out. Soft hum in all speakers.

The NAD T760 sounds great when it is working. I have had to send it off to the repair shop twice now because the center channel has disappeared. It wouldn't be so bad except that there is no authorized repair shop near here, so I have to send it away. That means that I have to pay shipping and I also have to be without a stereo for a while. Very frustrating.

When it works, it sounds excellent. There is a slight hum in all speakers, but my ears certainly cannot hear it when material is being played.

Because of the problems that I have had, I almost wish I would have gotten a Yamaha.

Cheesey Remote

This is the best integrated unit in it's price range, bar none. I am not into gimmics. I like the bare bones look this unit has. They saved their money for the guts of this receiver. You are doing yourself a deservice if you do not audition the T760 before purchasing a A/V receiver.
I agree that the unit has a cheesey remote but I don't buy my gear for the remotes. You don't listen to a remote. Your ears can't hear the backlighted, memory enhanced, pre-set ladden remote control that seems to be the norm now a days on the sub 2K units. I love this unit. It is a piece of audiophile gear Nirvana that slipped down to the masses. I am amazed that an A/V reciever in this price range can play music that way this unit does. I listened to many different units before I bought this one. Most of the Japanese units had plenty of Gee Whiz factor but once you actually made them play music it sounded like garbage. This gear actually has the ability to image like a dedicated Hi Fi rig. No, not some mumbo jumbo but an actual spatial sense of sound on a recording. You can hear the studio on certain recordings and the 70's era recordings in my collection sounded all warm and analog like fuzzy, almost like tubes were hidden behind the silicon chips visible on the back panel.
I listen to music more than I watch movies but the Dolby Digital decoder on this thing is by no means a slouch. So what if it doesn't have the 80 qazzilion listening codex mimics like most of the gear in it's class. who the heck actually listens to their music in "Disco" mode anyway or uses the 35mm sound feature? It simply sounds great.

If you don't like the looks of the unit close your eyes and listen to it. You should be watching the movie anyway.

Summary:

A knock down SuperStar of a Receiver. Sounds alot more expensive than it is. Stereo is EXCEPTIONAL for a piece of gear in this price range. If you like lights and lots of buttons buy a pin ball machine. If you like to actually listen to music on your Dolby Digital Gear this is the one for you. The T770 is a better choice if you have a larger load to drive or have a bigger room.

Strength:

Sweet stereo.

Weakness:

Price (nearly 700$ in Sweden). Remote.

Looking for something that could satisfy my musical needs as well as boosting my movie watching, going for the NAD was an easy choice. And sounds great in both stereo an DD, have yet to try DTS. In Surround mode I have turn the volume up very high (0 db). A bit nasty if you forget and switch to radio. I don't know if the Dalis need a lot of power but it seems a bit strange having to wind that volume knob all the time.

The remotes volume gets stuck sometimes, the first time it nearly pop my ears as volume hit the + 18 dB mark.

Excellent CD music and DD/DTS

Weakness:

Volume knob makes noice on speakers when turning

I bought this receiver 3 days ago. It is the best receiver that I 've ever owned. Excelent on CD music. Good DD and DTS. Even the FM reception is very good. It is convinient for me to listen to classical music with the timer on for 90 mins, 60 mins and 30 mins. I am planing on buying the NAD dvd player.
About the volume knob problem, I wonder if it is normal or I am just an unlucky buyer. Please let me know at t_thien@hotmail.com. My NAD is manufactured in China.
4 stars for overall because of the volume knob problem
